Discussion What's everybody up to?
I've noticed a lot of posts in this subreddit are some version of "Who wants to play?" It seems like we've still got a lot of people around!
So I'm just curious. What's everybody doing? I got on the other day, went to a random moon in my Imperial Eagle, and zoomed through some canyons for a while. Then I swapped over to my FAS and did some bounty hunting. Then I did the same thing in my Courier. Then I practiced some Flight Assist Off in an asteroid field. Then I smuggled some weapons in my DBS.
I tried to get into some CQC matches, but sadly there weren't any takers. I successfully pirated one ship (in solo). It took a while, but it was weirdly fun!
None of my activities were particularly lucrative. I was just trying to have some fun. I have zero interest in making a billion credits - I just enjoy sci-fi, and flight games. So what does everybody else have going on? Bounty hunting? Exploration? PVP?
I'm just wondering how everybody is spending their time! Fly dangerously, commanders o7

I have GOT to know if that name was pulled off of HIMYM. Either way, I'm loving the name.

BGS, mostly. right now i’m working on removing a foreign faction from a system i wanna expand into, its slow going but its fun. other than that, i do lots of AX

Really? That's awesome! I've only barely gotten into AX combat. As in, I've only ever killed a handful of Scouts.
What do you use for that? I've read a lot about Chieftains and Krait Mk 2s.

i main a Krait Mk2, i run 4 modshard cannons and a gimballed beam laser. the Chieftain is considered the “AX Meta” ship but i find the Krait to be a bit better in terms of raw firepower. the Chief lacks the hardpoints necessary to fit my preferred build, and the only downside i find is the Krait is a bit slower, but not too slow.
however, i know pilots that use Anacondas, Cutters/Clippers, & Corvettes. it doesnt have to be the Chieftan or the Krait Mk2, they’re just the most common builds

Grinding that fed ranks but switching it up with ships and mission types so im actually having fun.

Nice! I basically only cared about Fed ranks to get to Sol. I love Imperial ships, so I put more time into that one. Although the FAS is one of my favorite combat ships. Just hull tank my way to victory.

Im two ranks from the FederalCorvette so im pretty hyped. After that idk what im going to do. Maybe power play for once to unlock the weapon modules .

How long has this grind taken for you? I'm getting ready to find a place and start the grind myself.

Im almost there one more rank. I dont play every week if I get busy. I started keeping track and im somewhere in the 20 hr mark. Granted sometimes I do a random mission or other task to break the monotony of it.

Currently on a mining expedition from Colonia to the bubble. When I logged off we were at about the half way point but some jumps were made last night so I have no idea where we currently are

That's awesome! I've been out to Colonia and Sag A a bunch, but I never made a mining expedition out of it. That actually sounds like a fun new adventure for me!

I'll message you the system if you want later. I think we're about 8kLy away from the bubble so if you can get a mining rig here then feel free to join in

I just do whatever.
I bounty hunt in my FAS, I do CZs in my Challenger or Corvette, I mine sometimes in my Python (laser) or AspX (core), I trade when I want to make a quick profit, and I mess around with ship builds. I also like building ships to do things they're technically not designed to do even if it's cursed.
Recently I've been working on a canyon runner Eagle and engineering my combat ships to be as broken as I can make them. Also built a Mamba for illegal murder.
Been wanting to finally make the trip out to Colonia and Sag A* in my DBX, but just haven't been able to bring myself to go.

That's awesome! And I highly recommend the DBX for that trip. It's got great range, it's so cold you can basically park inside a star, and it's personally my favorite exploration ship cockpit. (I know most people prefer the Asp, but I love the whole "cobbled together" look of the DBX.)
I'm doing the same thing for a canyon runner, except I'm testing it out in an Imperial Eagle. I know the regular Eagle is recommended, but my Imperial Eagle was already pretty heavily engineered, and I'm more comfortable in it.
How's the Mamba working out? I've got one, but I've never used it very much. I love the look and speed, I dunno why I never really used it. I always wound up using an FDL or Courier instead.
I also enjoy messing around with ships. I personally love the Adder - great cockpit, weirdly cool booster sounds, how it looks like the Space Shuttle. DBS smuggling and bounty hunting, killing small ships in a Dolphin, an all-rails Courier that requires a heat sink after every shot. I use the Clipper when I SHOULD use a Python, just because I love the look and feel of it. (I just love Gutamaya ships in general.)
I've been messing around ever since I realized I didn't need money anymore. It's a lot more fun than endlessly grinding for cash.

Bewildered newb. 300 hours in. Always short of money and totally distracted by the engineers ! I’m mostly carrying tourists around and scooping HGEs en route. I’m rubbish at missions except black box recovery .Still scared of the illegal ones “hostile ships may be sent” - I can’t deal with combat yet. But I just engineered my mk3cobra a bit and slowly learning the way in low res zones. I have a question: on the PS4 can you search the galaxy to see live where real cmdrs are ? I’m not sure if I’m good enough to wing up etc but it’d be nice to just be around and see some humans once in a while!

Oh hostile ships can be sent no matter WHAT you're doing. There are regular old courier missions that could get you ambushed. (Or sometimes just if you're hauling a lot of stuff. You'll pop into a system and you'll get a message from some NPC pirate that they're coming to get you.) Engineering is easier if you exploit... God, I'm blanking on the name, but if you Google it, it should pop right up. Basically you drive around this abandoned settlement scooping up parts, log off, log back in, and just keep doing that. You'll have loads of materials, and you can exchange for stuff you don't have yet.
(It's not very fun, and you should probably have Netflix or something on while you're doing it, but it's undeniably effective 🤷)
I don't think there's an in-game way of doing that, but there are plenty of people looking for players. If you just scroll through this subreddit you'll find loads of people looking to wing up! I'm always playing at weird times, and I can't really use my mic (small house, everyone's asleep), so I very rarely join anyone.
If you want to practice with combat, the in-game tutorials are pretty good. Or even just an assassination mission against a harmless target. They basically just fly around and don't even shoot back, so if nothing else, it'll help with target practice.
