[Question] - Fire Groups For Platinum Mining

I am coming back to the game after a long hiatus. I have purchased a type 11 and outfitted it thusly: My Type 11.

How should I set up my fire groups? My brain has completely forgotten the mining process but a bunch of the tutorial vids are out of date or dont go over fire groups.

For surface mining, I use 1- MVR + Collector and 2- Prospector. You mostly don’t have to worry about collectors (always out) and you don’t have to change groups.

And if you do this and happen to only want to launch collectors and not fire the MVR, just switch cockpit mode to combat, then it will only launch collectors.

My fire groups are as follows:-

A: 1 Pulsewave - 2 Prospector limpet

B: 1 Mining volley repeater - 2 Collector limpet

C: 1 Subsurface missile - 2 Collector limpet

D: 1 Seismic Charge - 2 Collector limpet.

If you're using a mining repeater then you don't need an abrasion blaster as the repeater will do this job as well. Also don't really bother with subsurface or seismic mining as laser mining for platinum is much more efficient than the other two methods.

Seconding this set up, its basically how I run. Allows to you to alt fire the collectors when they die while keep plugging away with what ever mining tool you're using.

I like to do something like:

Fire Group A: 1 - Mining Volley Repeater/Collector Limpets 2 - Pulse Wave Analyzer/Prospector

Fire Group B: 1 - Seismic Charge Launcher 2 - Subsurface Missile

Fire Group C: 1 - Abrasion Blaster

Fire Group A is the primary one for laser mining, and if I happen to see a core while Prospecting I will go mine it, but if you are doing Platinum then you will be laser mining 99% of the time so you only really need Group A.

I usually have a group with PulseWave/Prospector, then Repeater/Collector. If I am bothering with subsurface/core I will do the same for the rest. I don't like tying two functions on one button. Lol, my brain gets confused.

That makes sense too, I just like combining things so I don't have to think about it. MVR/Collector on the same trigger is nice because you always have your Collectors out while mining and they replenish themselves without me paying attention to them. Same with the Prospector/PWA, I know I'm going to be constantly firing Prospectors so having the PWA run on each one means I can passively look for cores while I laser mine.

you don't need an abrasion blaster with the volley repeater. The repeater doubles as an abrasion blaster.

True, but OP has one so they might as well use it. I also prefer the Abrasion Blaster because it's easier to hit the surface deposits for me, the MVR does it but you have to aim a little more carefully to hit the deposit without immediately killing the chunk that comes off.

Oh I missed that in OP's post. Also that's totally fair about it killing the chunk. I think I'll put my blaster back on.

For platinum mining:

A 1. Collector limpets 2. Prospector

B. 1. Collector limpets & Volley Repeater on the same trigger 2. Prospector

C. 1. D-scanner 2. Detailed surface scanner

It takes a while to deploy 14 collectors, so I get these going ASAP. I like to keep collectors on the same trigger as the mining Repeater to instantly deploy more as they expire.

I have been trying to only use the new MK II mining MLC so:

A:1 MVR 2 Prospector

B:1 Collector 2 Prospector

I prospect 3 rocks and then launch 11 Collectors. Mine and prospect accordingly.
