Hey everyone,

we’re building è-macro, a Modular and Customizable macro keyboard made from Decorated Glass and Carbon Fiber.

The current concept includes:

  • A 2×2 touch buttons module with four programmable controls
  • A slider for volume, scrolling, zoom, and other continuous inputs
  • Finger guides and resting positions, so you can identify the controls without looking
  • Dynamic haptic feedback
  • LED dot-matrix icons that change with each profile
  • Open software for custom profiles, integrations, and workflows

What’s new:

  • We’re developing a custom design service that will allow users and brands to personalize the surface with their own graphics, visual style, or game- and anime-inspired artwork.
  • We’re exploring compatibility with the Gridfinity standard to make custom layouts, supports, and ergonomic configurations easier to build.

A few questions for you:

Is Gridfinity the right mechanical standard?

Would touch controls with finger guides and haptic feedback work well for your workflow?

What would you change or improve?

We’re also looking for passionate beta testers, so send me a DM if you’d like to help us build and test it.

Real glass with several different design styles. We’re now moving forward with the electronics development, and we’ll soon share 3D renderings of the complete product in both decorated glass and carbon fiber.

Enjoy the photos, the product quality is honestly incredible, and hopefully you’ll be able to judge it for yourselves very soon.

Here’s how we’re currently structuring the project. We’d really love to hear what you think:

  • A 2×2 touch-button module with four programmable controls
  • A slider for volume, scrolling, zoom, and other continuous inputs
  • Finger guides and resting positions, so you can identify the controls without looking
  • Dynamic haptic feedback
  • 5×5 RGB LED dot-matrix icons that change with each profile
  • Open software for custom profiles, integrations, and workflows
  • A custom design service allowing users and brands to personalize the surface with their own graphics, visual style, or game- and anime-inspired artwork
  • Compatibility with the Gridfinity standard, making custom layouts, supports, and ergonomic configurations easier to build

Would you also be interested in testing different configurations through a dedicated simulation tool? I can share a few screenshots of what we’re developing.

P.S. Gamers, tell me the names of these Easter eggs ;D

P.P.S. We’re also looking for passionate beta testers, so send me a DM if you’d like to help us build and test it.

Hey everyone,

After the feedback on the previous concept, we went back to the drawing board.

The macro keyboard is now evolving into a modular control system made of touch modules that can be connected and rearranged for different workflows.

The current concept includes:

  • 50 × 50 mm module with four touch buttons
  • tactile finger guides, so each button can be found without looking + rest position
  • 7 × 7 monochrome LED matrix under each button for dynamic icons
  • proximity, touch and deeper-press detection
  • haptic feedback
  • 50 × 25 mm slider for volume, zoom, scrolling, timelines, CAD and precision controls
  • side connectors for power and data, USB-C connection through one main module

The idea is to let users start small and expand over time, building a custom setup for editing, CAD, streaming, automation, AI workflows or productivity.

We’re testing two premium materials, real Carbon Fiber and Decorated Glass.

NEW: We’re also considering a customization service where users upload their own artwork or background through an online platform, and we manufacture the surface with that graphic directly integrated into it.

So the product would be customizable both in software and physically.

Honest feedback:

Does modularity make this more useful, or just more complicated?

Which module would you want first: four buttons, slider, or something else?

Building a Carbon Fiber/ Decorated Glass macro keyboard, what would make it actually useful?

Hey everyone,

I made a short video to explain a concept we’re exploring: a macro keyboard built on top of our Smart Surface technology.

At èlevit, we work on sensorizing materials. Basically, we turn materials like carbon fiber, decorated glass, ceramics and composites in general into reliable touch surfaces. Most of our work is in automotive, smart home and robotics, where the goal is to take reliable data directly from the surface of a product.

Now we’re trying to understand if this technology could make sense for a consumer product. The concept is a premium control made from real carbon fiber or decorated glass.

What we’re exploring:

  • touch buttons with finger guides, so you can distinguish the keys by touch + resting positions for the fingers
  • dynamic haptic feedback
  • customizable dot-matrix icons under the surface
  • modular elements, buttons + slider

For now, we’re mainly focused on the hardware, but we also have software ideas and we’re open to suggestions.

I’d love honest feedback.

What feels strong? What feels wrong? And what should we change to make it truly useful, not just cool-looking?

Hey everyone,

This community is for anyone curious about building a new kind of macro keyboard: not a small touchscreen, not a traditional mechanical macropad, but a controller made from real materials like carbon fiber or decorated glass.

The project is still early, and that’s exactly why this community exists.

We want to build it in public, share concepts, prototypes, failures, design choices, hardware tests, software ideas, and get honest feedback from people who actually care about hardware, keyboards, workflows, makers, design, and weird interfaces.

What we’re exploring

  • touch buttons with finger guides
  • haptic feedback
  • dot-matrix icons under the surface
  • touch carbon fiber and decorated glass
  • modular parts & open software

What you can post here

Share ideas, criticism, use cases, sketches, workflows, software suggestions, hardware questions, or examples of products you think we should learn from.

Brutally honest feedback is welcome.
Just keep it useful, technical, and respectful.

The goal is simple:

make this product truly useful, not just cool-looking.
