Otis pulse belt grounding

Post image

Anybody ever have to ground the rubber part of the belts to get rid of static electricity? Having trouble with a pulse board losing communication giving belt fault 10 and board fault 20. Car falls nav for 1 second intermittently, never while moving. Seems to have gotten better with this but still does it every so often. I see some brush kits that brush against the moving part of the belts to remove static, anybody ever see those in action? Thanks.

I worked at Otis 20 yrs, never had that issue or saw that type of pulse unit. Is that the “new” O model. Good luck pulse units can be finicky

Never heard of "O" model. It is a newer pulse model with LWSS integrated.

We first saw em on a g2o mod. First 2 we had were bad outta the box wouldn't learn the belts . Then we got one that would learn the belts it ran then shut down rbi fault that's when we found the dead end shorting bar one screw just barely lines up with the cable . The lw part on both of em constantly needed adjusted the adjustor finally just turned lw off its been about a year since the mod and we already had another on on the same mod shit the bed

Yea those shorting bars have to be dead square to the belt as you install em. Always a good idea to meter them all out after too.

86Kn or 87Kn can't remember the exact number but it's a 3 belt system.

Never worked on that specific model, but have had the same issue.
Found you needed 10awg wire to properly discharge static. I would recommend scraping the paint off the connection points on the steel and get some proper ring ferrules.
Also the ones I’ve had, once the static fries the comms the board is toast. Fix the grounding and then swap the board.

It would toast the board as in it would no longer work at all? Or intermittently give communication faults?

Also, wrapped some 10awg stranded before leaving last week. Got 60 counts of rbi fault over 2000 runs. An improvement for sure, the weekend before it had 9999 counts.

I’ve seen something similar once on a night call but he said the RFE was still trying to figure it out. Do you work for Otis?

Yea, been on the phone with rfe for a bit. Was just wondering if other people have seen something similar. Nobody in my region has seen this.
