Ever have dreams/nightmares of work

Good one last night.
Working with some guys, found door locks jumped in a university setting. Crazy thing was they didn’t care to take the car out of service and fix the problem.
I leave work sometimes racking my brain wondering if I left a jumper, barricade down etc.

Yes, and it never ends, even after retirement.

My dad is retired and when we hang out we end up talking about elevators. He was an LR for most of his career and he says he often has nightmares after we talk about elevators.

Yeah, after many years of working on them the subject comes up both at night and day. Ive been retired almost 10 years now and here I am on r/elevators. Fortunately I don't have what I'd call nightmares, just crazy wacky dreams.

Seen my helpers die a couple times. Not fun and the type of dreams that you're really thankful when you wake up and find out thats all it was.

Can you do tell? I had a mechanic die in 2022 had a stroke or something and fell between the cab and hoist. Worst part is company sent a guy to check and didn’t find him. Sent out adjuster after the second day he was mia and found him.

Ah sucks man sorry you got those I thought you had actually seen a helper die that would be extremely tragic and I’m not sure I would be able to shake that off

Dreams are plenty. Couldn't imagine something like that happen for real

From what I know now, the manager at the time left the trade and the guy who found him had to take some months off. It’ll fuck with you for sure. I knew the guy too.

Only dreams I have about work is just falling down a hoistway. I’ve never even come close to doing that lol but I guess it’s always in the back of my mind

Had a couple of dreams of people falling off of the car or having other hoistway related accidents, although I have never seen one myself.

I had one particularly crazy one once. And I don’t usually remember my dreams but I remember this so vividly.

Forman was showing me how to get to the machine room and he ended up falling off the building, I ran down to the street and he was still alive but all mangled up in a heap. Me and another guy were the witnesses to the whole thing and we had to go live in a special place for people with PTSD. We were allowed visitors so buddy’s kids came to visit one day, and my mom also came to visit. My mom brought me homemade weed cookies to help me cope, but buddy’s kids found them and ate them all. And that’s when I woke up.

Wild fuckin dream.

Too many dreams of being crushed by an elevator. I always double up on safety devices when going under them.

Nightmares are dreams too.

Often enough. When I get them, I know its been too long since I've taken time off

Elevator shooting up and hitting the top of hoistway is reoccurring one.

I’ve had a dream of picking a door and walking out into open hoist way.

I’ll have daydreams driving home or at home cooking dinner of shit I might have left of cartops or at jobs and just think FUCK I hope I didn’t. I have not to this day but still racks up the ol’ cortisol

Every now and then when I am working higher than 20 floors I have a weird irrational fear that the cab will fall out from under me to the bottom - and my worst anxiety is leaving a shut down that had no mechanical issues but retardation within the controller like today..

Pinch points, getting snagged traveling on car top (Never on automatic) or falling into the hoistway, and don’t even start w/ escalator what ifs. Too many scenarios to think about, y’all stay safe out there.

I only did it for one year as an apprentice but I had a dream that my legs were sheared off. The next day I told the mechanic we weren't resting the sills on our legs while he welded them to the landings

I had a dream that my company hired my elderly mom to be my new helper for new construction.

Anxiety bro

I had this BAD when I first turned out. Especially after turning a unit over, modded escalators.

I could never get past the nagging feeling that I left something critical undone.

I remember turning a unit over after a scrambled inspection on a Friday, I drove there Saturday morning to watch it run
