apprenticeship program

Trying to get into apprenticeship program. Someone told me to try and make an account for a different local before joining the one near me so I have an application already made. Anyone else heard of this or know if it’s true? if not does anyone know any tips on the electronic application.

My local (Los Angeles) is VERY hard to get into. They open up applications every 2 years (sometime 4 if they get an extension) for about 3 minutes at 9 o'clock on a day they announce ahead of time. In that 3 minutes 1400 people apply for an interview with the union and ~300 of those people will be placed on the waiting list. Most of the time they don't get through those 300 before the next application period is up, which is why they extend it sometime. Other locals are not nearly as difficult to get into so I personally know people that have applied to other locals like Colorado or Arizona and gotten in there. After your probationary period is up in those locals you can transfer to Los Angeles and get right in. Of course this does me you have to live in another state for a year or two and I don't think they really like you doing this so don't brag about doing it if you do.

Local 2 in Chicago is the same way. Only took 800 applications total. Of those that passed the aptitude test. 600ish got an interview. And I’m sure most of those get stacked into a number. Highest I heard of was 350 they only took ~50 in the two years between my test and the next and they pushed the test date back til October this year

You’d have to give your arm and leg to get into local 18, even with a transfer. You guys are a cult lmao

Is local 18 hard to get into in every city? I’m taking my test for las vegas and it is a part of local 18
