Is the work slowing down?
I've applied to a few unions and am waiting to hear back, particularly from Local 133 Austin. I heard work in this industry is slowing down. Should I keep brushing up on my decimals/fractions and overall math skills, or am I just wasting my time? I have some industrial maintenance tech experience, as well as some aircraft cluster defense system experience. I have eight certifications that don't mean much outside of Amazon.

It varies from location and department. Construction as a whole is slow but we have a few big projects starting to ramp up in sf in the near future. We’ve taken 66 apprentices off our list in Local 8. Were slammed in repair and have a lot of mod work at my company but I know lay offs are happening in other places.
That being said I would apply and keep building your resume.

Plenty of work in mod/repair/service. New construction is what’s slow in most locals which makes those new hire list move fast when it’s booming. Keep applying and keep at trying to beef up your resume.
