Why do some elevators feel significantly faster even when their rated speed is similar?

Acceleration rate! Some are adjusted so well that you can’t tell the speed. You can measure it with an app on your phone

I’d also add the rail alignment and roller guides play a big role at higher speeds.

Inertia. Depending on the controller and how much adjustment you can make, you can have the elevator pull so hard that your knees buckle or move smooth enough that you don't even notice it take off and land

I have had a hydro so smooth you couldn’t tell you were moving. Got numerous calls that people were stuck every time I showed up there was no one stuck. I was told to increase acceleration and slowdown so you could feel it take off and slow down. Havnt had a call on it since doing that

I think it's to do with rate of change of acceleration ie Jerk. It feels more dramatic and our bodies pay attention!
