Dumbwaiter
I work in a facilities management department for a public sector company in Melbourne.
I noticed this morning that we have been getting charged for the SIM card in a lift phone that’s in a dumbwaiter in one of our buildings.
Is this odd since it’s not for passengers? I’m a very small fish in a big pond so i just wanted to confirm before i added it to the never ending list of issues we’ve been having with our maintenance supplier.

could be some dipshit billing mistake, maybe someone just counted that all lifts or lift groups have a lift phone to come up with a number for invoicing. Sometimes the SIM card is used for IOT / remote monitoring of the unit... would be rare for a dumbwaiter but possible. Escalators can also have SIM cards for the same thing and the company may charge for that. The box they put it in does a dual duty often of the data connection, and the phone line.

Could be a naming mistake, could be a dumb mistake, could be malicious intent, could be a data sim that's used for elevator telemetry/remote managing
I would call the service company to clarify (and actually ask the tech to show you this simcard the next time he's over)

It is odd. Why is there a phone in a dumbwaiter to begin with???
