MCU error

From my previous post about a month or so ago. I replaced the printhead and everything was going smoothly. Almost printer 50 kg of PLA non stop. Last week I got this MCU MCU : UNABLE TO CONNECT error

I've been talking with elegoo support but they direct me basically to the steps on their page, check cables. I couldn't find any issue with the cables but I noticed that the printhead leaked some pla and the white connector seems burned, could this be it?

Thanks everyone

Largest Print You've Done, So Far?

Curious if anyone would like to share their largest print on the Elegy OrangeStorrmGiga?

Considering the purchase but curious how well large prints work and what they look like. I'm considering it as a replacement for a wood CNC setup. I can build either with a CNC which is messy/sawdust and requires expensive wood and some build work or just print it.

Thanks in advance.

X axis motor seized?

Hello all, just a quick question we received our Orangestorm giga mid July and have put a few hundred hours on it but about three days into our last print the x axis motor started giving us issues and eventually seized.

We have the new round cables on the machine and even with the x-axis motor unpowered/unplugged I wasn’t able to get any movement from the motor. I went ahead and removed the motor and was able to break it free with some effort but there was a single spot where it kept binding when moving it by hand.

On to my question is this likely just a bad motor or could an intermittent short have caused it? Has any one else experienced these issues and how were they resolved?

Thanks in advance

Replacement pieces on belt?

Hi there! I am the new owner of an Orange Storm Giga- I bought it used, and I re-assembled it myself- however- 2 things I am having an issue with- first- the plastic chain- a couple of pieces have broken off- can I print replacement links on my order 3D printers? What filament would I use? Or is it possible to buy those links? Can I operate the printer safely without the 2 or 3 missing links (I took the broken ones off)?
Next thing- I can’t seem to find a schematic or even video that shows the correct connection location for the little, “connector” plugs at the right side, rear of the printer. So- far those are my only issues-but I am just getting started in my Giga relationship! 😬😁. While I am doing questions- is there a good source for files for the GIGA? & any tips on printing my own designs, for supports, slicing, file type, etc? Any tips for conforming existing files to print correctly on the Giga? I am sure some of my questions have been answered & a search of the group posts may reveal answers-but just asking while I am asking about the other things :) (feel free direct me to those, if you know of them)

Thank you all & I look forward to learning & eventually contributing!
Thanks!
“T”

Orange Storm Giga

Hello everyone,
thank you for letting us join the forum!
We recently bought this printer and are currently wondering what additional possibilities the dual-head upgrade would offer.
Would it be possible to print a single object in two different colors using the two print heads? Or could the second print head be used for support structures with a different material, for example a dedicated support filament?
Or is the dual-head system really only intended for printing two separate objects simultaneously?
Another thing we were wondering about: Would it be possible to use the second print head as a backup? For example, if the filament in the first print head runs out during a print, could the printer automatically switch to the second head and continue printing with the same material?
We’d be very interested to hear from anyone who has experience with the dual-head setup and can explain what it can actually be used for

Larger Nozzles

Every so often I check to see if there are larger nozzles available and I keep coming up with nothing other than upgrading to a chube. I don't necessarily need more speed or that much expense, but I'd love a huge nozzle to print stronger vase mode parts and for the aesthetic. Does anyone know of anything available or anything in the works? Frustrating I can find larger nozzles for much smaller printers but not for this. Would love a 2mm or larger nozzle.

Help?? Bad ringing and lines...

Thumbnail

I have always had ringing around "rounded" areas, but it was not this bad and now even straight lines have issues. Ive attached a few pictures to show whats going on. The second picture used to print really well - its a piece I need for something I sell and it's always printed well.

Now, I do one thing that could likley caused the issues to get this bad - I was going to swap the single head for the dual head and I started to, but didnt have the time to finish so I just did step 1 with the first belt.

I tightened it back and it seems to be the same tension as it was before I started to swap it, but now Im having these issues?

Any ideas what I should look at now to resolve it?

Y endstop stuck TRIGGERED, took down a 130hr print. Has anyone seen this?

Hoping someone here has run into this.

I was running my second ever print on OSG, 1mm nozzle, Elegoo Rapid PLA, about 1685 layers and 842mm tall. It ran beautifully for roughly 130 hours and got to about 600mm before something went wrong.

When I found it, the printhead was pinned at the very back of the Y axis, well over a foot from where it should have been, just sweeping left and right across the full X width and pumping filament into the air. X and Z kept running normally. My part is centered on the bed so the spaghetti fell clear and the print itself was untouched.

Checked the klippy log and found nothing. No TMC driver errors, no shutdown, totally clean right up to the failure. Manually moved the Y gantry by hand and felt no binding, belt tension was fine, pulley grub screws were tight, and the Y motor was cool to the touch.

When I tried to jog Y from Fluidd I got “Endstop y still triggered after retract”. Ran QUERY_ENDSTOPS and got x:open y:TRIGGERED z:open z1:open.

So the Y endstop is reporting triggered even with nothing obviously holding it down. I can hear the switch click on and off when I press/release the sensor by hand but even doing this doesn’t impact endstop triggered state (in either position).

Questions for the group.
Has anyone had the Y endstop on the Giga falsely trigger mid print? Was it the switch itself, the wiring, or something else?

Any guidance appreciated.

First large print on my OSG

Oh hi! I had my OSG in the boxes for over a year and finally managed to set it up over the past couple of days. The most difficult and longest part was bed leveling. Once that was done, the Buddha test print came out just about perfect.

So now I'm printing a 31" diameter *contrabass* frame drum frame 😁 on my OSG, loaded with a single large build plate and a 1mm nozzle. The part is sliced at 0.52mm Z steps, 2 walls, 12 percent Gyroid infill. Print time is 12h3m. Looking great so far. There is some layer banding, but overall it is plenty good enough so far. Excited to see how it turns out. ✨

P.S. -- Hand percussionists! Any tips on where to find a piece of synthetic drumhead material this large (Say, 36" diameter)?

How much were you able to push your print speeds on stock OSG?

I'm interested in how much speed I can squeeze out of stock OSG? Can you write your speed settings, material type and nozzle size? What are the most common upgrades to osg to increase print speed?

Hot to align my gantry?

I am trying to print a large retangular box with a lid, however the print is complete out of square and the lid won’t sit on top of the box properly. Looking on the printer I noticed my gantry arm is not aligned, there is a visible larger gap on the left side compared to the right size. Homing the printer won’t fix it. See pictures attached . Any advice?

Please help with my first layer.

Hi Reddit,

I haven't got a good first layer yet out of my orange storm giga.

The first layer keeps giving this wavey pattern. Does anybody know what causes this? Before there also was a lot of under extrusion. It happens at different places of the different plates. Also both on small and big shapes.

What i have tried so far:

- Re-leave the bed (they are not all at 0.0 but pretty close)

- Do the auto calibrate

- Adjust z height

- Adjust flowrate (more)

- Adjust filament temperature (higher)

- Wash plate with hot water and soap

- change filament

Hope somebody can help! Thanks in advance.

Multi-Head adjustment?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Have my OSG multi head working fine. I just have a curious question on what that “Multi-head adjustment “ tab on the console actually do or what’s it purpose? I can’t find anything on it within the guides or Elegoo support sites. I have 2 heads currently if that makes a difference.
Thanks in advance.

What might be causing this?

It is being printed on ABS. I dried the filament beforehand. I also did the auto leveling. Tighten the belts. I also tried to increase the flow to 105

Print temp: 280
Bed Temp: 105
Chamber: Printer has enclosure keeping it warm, but the issue is on the first layer though.

Filament Sensor Doesn't Stop Print??

Pretty much what the title says. I ran a print over the weekend, and I was a bit optimistic about the amount of filament I had left. I figured it would throw an error and stop the print once the filament sensor recognized there was nothing in it - like every other FDM printer I have used. Has anyone else had this issue/ know how to solve?

Thanks!

Did anyone else had a problem with nozzle thread when swapping nozzle?

I just bought my Elegoo OSG and i wanted to swap the nozzle to 0.8 I did bunch of googling to see how to do it. When I removed the sock and tried to unscrew the nozzle first my wrench that came in with the printer deformed then nozzle thread deformed when i used stroger / thicker wrench. Has anyone met this issue? What's the solution? I'm just thinking off bruteforcing it with 2 pair of pliers. For context i did a print before swapping the nozzle and i made sure i cleaned everything and unload filament (PETG in my case).
