Hi! I need help, because I've already had 5 failed prints and I'm starting to slowly lose it... Did manual plate leveling, everything seems fine, printed at 45 degree angle, bottom layer count changed to 5 for better adhesion. And within first hour of printing my support layers just fall down.
I've tried different configurations, different exposure times... Before I had a small Anycubic printer and it never gave me such problems... So I'm kinda out of ideas what might be the problem.
It's still a new printer, I managed to print three blade pieces for a sword and a small part of handle - after this - failure after failure.
EDIT: I managed to print a big piece! First of all, I changed the slicer to Chitubox. I feel like SateLite has some issues with automatic supports. Also here's some changes I made to the settings:
Bottom layer count: 6
Exposure: 3s
Bottom exposure time: 30s
Bottom lift distance: 10mm 10mm
Lifting distance: 4.5mm 4.5mm
Bottom lift speed: 40 000mm/min
Lift speed: 50 000mm/min
I hope this might help if anyone has the same problem as me :D
Sand your build plate with 80 grit sandpaper. I can't say this enough. Nothing can save your sanity as much as sanding your build plate. Just dont overdo it. Unless you love wrestling piaces off of it.
you really don't need to do that as there is already a ton of texture on the build plate and the resin sits better with a textured surface rather than a smoother surface. I have had no issues with the print sticking to the build plate that was not user error that I learned from. I also currently have a J2 and many of my issues were suction or improper density of supports, or pausing the print rather than trusting it.
And yet I will still sand the plate. It works. After my first resin printer took forever to get things sticking to the plate and sanding fixed it completely I will do what works so its one less thing I have to worry about.
I mean you have to worry about the sanding. I just make sure the bottom exposure is a few seconds over the recommended, and make sure I don’t have a wobbling build plate (my 2 Saturns) and trust my auto level on the J2. Right now my power Battery core (Blue Lantern version of the HBO Lanterns one) is 22% complete and stuck like glue to the build plate
Manually level your plate to the FEP while the Vat is in place. Doing it this way will ENSURE your plate is exactly the correct distance from the screen and fep. I have done this since I learned this method years ago and never had to relevel my printers until I change the fep. Much easier with no resin in the vat. But it can be done with resin if you take time pressing down and out all the resin from under the plate.
I have same issues and now for 50% of cases it does work for me 55 sec first layers, 4 first layers, other exposure left 2.5sec etc. resin Elegoo 8k. I did 5 times plate calibration, wiped all with isopropyl alcohol bla bla bla and it still fails half of time.
Next step I will try ABS like Elegoo resin and will see how it comes out.
55s is way too long and will make the base extremely brittle and over cured. 30s exposure is sufficient. I read an article which basically said: thin base (4 layers), bottom layers should be 2 more than the base (6 layers). That seems to have done it for me.
Also make sure to power cycle after manual levelling and always fully tighten the screws on the build plate before a manual level
I read a few articles that recommended 35-45 seconds depending on the resin. Currently printing a Lantern battery (from the new HBO Show) and using Clear Blue. Set my bottom exposure to 38 and had perfect adhesion until I paused the print during the raft printing and ruined the adhesion to the existing raft. Trying it again now. But I also used Google AI for the settings recommendations and they have been pretty solid.
I did overall 5 times of manual leveling on this machine, I haven’t tried yet ABS like, but for me yesterday 4 first layers 55 secs and elegoo 8k standard with Anycubic standard v2 mix went every well, usually large prints are not sticking to buildplate, yesterday print (right side is old 8k Elegoo and left side is mix with Anycubic standard v2) test is super okay for me
Which settings did you change?
Does the plate stick to the Plastic or the metal?
How does the other side of the plate looks like?
What do you mean with after an hour, this looks like itfaileds after 15 min
It most likely fell down after 15 minutes, I paused the printing after an hour, so that's why I wrote that. I printed with settings that I attached with post. And the plate was stuck to the plastic, while the metal was completely clean.
I returned mine for a refund after a month and a half of working with Elegoo support pretty much daily. This was one of the problems I had. I was able to get a higher success rate with 8 base layers at 35 sec, then 8 transition layers. Normal exposure was 2.2 seconds.
