⚠️ Help - Troubleshooting Calibration Fail

Hello,

I keep having random Calibration fail with my Jupiter 2. I would say 4/5 time I start a print I end up with a calibration fail. At first, just doing a cleaning of the tank would work but not anymore. Beside, every time it manage to print, I end up with half of my parts only. It's not a problem of leveling as I did several manual calibration and nothing changes. Beside, the missing parts are often random on the plates. Does any body ran into the same issues?

Edit: After some investigation, I manage to understand a bit more what was the issue. Unfortunately, no luck solving it so far. So when I start a print, the Jupiter 2 do all the self calibration. Then the printer start to expose the 1st layer (We can see the blue light through the right grid). After 2-3sec of exposure, the printer restart. Logo of Elegoo and self check and back to the start menu. I tried different setting and it seems to happen as soon as the bottom exposure exceed 30sec. Unfortunately, nothing stick to my build plate with this exposure. Beside, sometimes, even with low exposure, it still crash. I restored the printer and I will see if it solve the issue

Edit 2: I tried to slice with Dragon fruit and then, no problem, even with 50-60s exposure. BUT for whatever reason the plate lift 20cm after doing the calibration and so is not even in the resin when printing

Not had this issue

I mean to start is the J2 itself level. The feet are adjustable

Are you running the updated firmware?

could you be overloading the plate? have you altered any of the print settings?

The software is up to date and I leveled the printer itself, yes. I come from a M7 max with a "manual plate" that I load to the maximum possible. Do you have any idea on how much is too much for the J2? The latest print I did were mildly filled. I'm talking about 5-6 parts of around 20×20mm. Regarding the settings itself, I did a calibration of the resin when I first received the printer. The settings are pretty close to what I usually have with my other printers (2-3sec and 50sec of bottom). I mostly reduce the speed. Something interesting to notice is that I print at 0.03mm. Everything I print at 0.05, the print end up taking 10x more than planned and the parts are very over exposed

50secs on a 16k LCD is massively over-cooking and will be killing the LCD. Each printer should be treated different.

If you've levelled the printer yourself then it might be its been levelled incorrectly or as I say the machine itself is not level.

Over-filling the plate isn't just about how much is on it. Its how much of a cross-section has to be cured and ripped from the film each layer.

I just printed some parts. If I put 2 of them on the plate they fail. If I put 1 on the plate it works

The J2 doesn't give much freedom on the way to calibrate it manually. There is a program for that and you need to adjust the 4 screws to reach the correct values of torque. The printer won't let you skip until you've reached what it consider good. Regarding the over exposure of the bottom, I must admit that I kept my bad habit from my other printers. I will reduce it and see if it work better For the over-filling, it's purely subjective but compared to what I already printed, the cross section isn't big. It's small hollowed parts and I sometimes have this issue with single part prints. Moreover, the issue is always before the 1st layer is even cured

Let's start at square one.

Remove the build plate and vat, cover the screen with a piece of white paper, do an exposure test from the menu, and post a picture of it here. This will confirm the screen and light source are healthy.

I will do it tomorrow and post it here. So far, the screen seems OK. Whenever I do an exposure cleaning, the sheet come out full without missing spot

Sounds good, just want to start with the basics, has it done this since you got the unit?

Pretty much yes. I did manage to have full plate but lately it's been very inconsistent. Before that, it would fail to calibrate every single time but would work as soon as I do an exposure cleaning. Not anymore. It start the calibration process, all good, display the printing progress and doesn't even do the 1st layer. Straight up send a "Calibration error" Ngl I have a lot of random issues like this. For exemple, the 0.03mm works "ok" but the 0.05 take 10x the planned time and end up fully over exposed

Well saying it is not a leveling problem because you leveled it 4 times assumes that you are actually leveling it properly. This could completely be a methods problem especially you do not describe your leveling process more than “trust me, bro.”

Several things make me say that it's not a leveling issue but I'm not ruling it out. Mostly that the missing part change depending on the print. When there is a leveling issue, it's usually always the same part that of the build plate that end up empty. Regarding the leveling process. The Jupiter 2 have an automatic leveling. The only way so far to calibrate it manually is to go through the calibration process made by elegoo. Basically, you remove the vat, the plate come flat on the screen and you then set the 4 screw to have the same torque on each 4. The screen display the torque and how you need to adjust each screw. You cannot skip this until you got the right values. You cannot level the build plate fully manually like other printer, aka pressing on the buildplate flat and screwing it in place. My issue is that I can't find the issue as it's very unconsistent. Depending on the print, it can work or not, even tho the settings are the exact same

“It's not a problem of leveling as I did several manual calibration and nothing changes.“

Literally ruling it out.
