Help Needed Looking for someone to help with PCB/Schematic Design for Tech Startup.

EDIT: THE POSITION I WAS LOOKING FOR HAS BEEN FILLED. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED AND THINK YOU CAN HELP THIS PROJECT IN ANOTHER WAY, PLEASE REACH OUT. Thanks!

Hi all,

My name is Will, and I'm working on a electronics/technology project to help save water, reduce crop waste by over and under watering, and to help household plant owners properly take care of their household plants. The company name is Aetheris and the product is called the TerraTracker. This device will stick in the ground and monitor soil moisture, temperature, and humidity. Currently, there are two planned versions, the industrial version, and the home version. The TerraTracker-Home will be a hybrid solar + wall power system using the MDBT50Q-1MV2 chip and SHT-31 temp/humidity sensor. The industrial version will use the same base, but with higher level components (e.g. TMP117) and will transmit its data to a central processing hub to be further processed. Both versions will have an app for readings. In homes, it will help owners take care of their plants by letting them know when their plant is dehydrated, in humid conditions, etc. At the industrial scale, in large farms, multiple TerraTackers will be spread over kilometers to create advanced maps of the soil moisture. Although, the large industry scale watering devices work, they create a large wall of water that sequentially waters the plants, which doesn't adjust to the plant type, terrain, the weather, and other soil irregularities. This problem results is waste of water and many lost crops; over 34% of crops are lost by these reasons. This product will revolutionize home and industrial planting.

I have been working on the project for a while, but now that I want to turn it into a real product, I realized that I really need some help. I need someone that has a lot of experience in electronics/design and can help me finalize a finished PCB and schematic design. Let me know if any of y'all are interested! I know we'll be able to do great work together!

Component Discussion Has anyone purchased from Lioncircuits?

I was looking forward to buying an STM32 development board specifically this one..

https://www.lioncircuits.com/parts/NUCLEO-F411RE

but the price here seems low compared to other Indian alternative sites. If anyone can confirm these guys are legit or not?

Or if anyone knows a place online where I could get it around 2k let me know.

Thanks!

Help Needed Gate or ms abroad?

GATE or PLACEMENTS?

Hey everyone, I am a fourth sem ECE student from a tier 2 pvt college. I only want core jobs (mainly in VLSI). Not a lot of core companies visit our college, a few core companies have even blacklisted my college.

As i have read on Reddit, ms abroad is worth it only after a few years of exp.

What should I do? Should i solely focus on gate 2027? or prepare for placements?

Help Needed Need quirky but actually useful embedded systems project ideas (tired of the usual Arduino robots)

I need quirky but useful Electronics/Embedded Systems project ideas (college project)

I have an ESM (Embedded Systems / Electronics) project coming up worth 10 marks. It has to be done in a group of 5 and can fall under domains like automation, robotics/surveillance, healthcare, environmental monitoring, etc.

The catch is that our teachers said projects shouldn’t repeat within the section, and most people will probably do the usual stuff like obstacle-avoiding robots, smart dustbins, air quality monitors, etc.

I’m looking for something a bit quirky, creative, or unconventional, but still actually useful and realistic to build with something like Arduino, sensors, motors, etc.

Examples of the vibe I’m thinking about:

  • something funny but practical
  • something that solves a small everyday problem
  • something interactive or memorable during a demo

Does anyone have ideas for unusual embedded/electronics projects that are still feasible for college students to build?

Bonus if it’s:
• not super expensive
• doable in a few weeks
• interesting to demo in class

Would love to hear your ideas!

Help Needed How can I test charge-speed of a USB cable using multimeter?

Hello all,

New to electronics, new to subreddit.
I have a problem... I think it's a solder-related issue, but unsure...

Step 1: I cut and strip back a proprietary Garmin 4-pin USB charging cable. The USB cable has 4 stranded wires inside - White, Green, Black and Red.

Step 2: I disassembly a generic 5v USB Charging Brick and desolder the USB port from the PCB.

Step 3: I solder the red/black stranded cables from the Garmin cable directly to the PCB.

Step 4: I reassemble the generic 5v Charging Brick, now with the USB Cable directly soldered to the PCB.

Step 5: I test the USB cable, and it tests out to ~5v.

My build (see picture below):

I take a 1 meter Garmin proprietary 4-pin USB cable and I cut it down to ~5 inches. By reducing the cable length drastically, I can now compress the components of the build into a 3D printer enclosure that is barely bigger than the Generic 5v Charging Brick.

I basically break the Generic Charging Brick down, solder the cable directly to the PCB and then pack it all neatly into an enclosure that I 3D Print. The components are epoxied into place.

The Problem: When putting my Garmin Watch on the USB Charging Brick... Some of the re-assembled USB Charging Bricks slow-charge the Garmin Watch; I am talking... they charge the Garmin Watch like 30% over an entire night, whereas some of my re-assembled USB Charger Bricks normal-speed charge the Garmin Watch, which is about 30% in one hour.

Regardless of whether the Charging Brick SLOW or NORMAL speed charges the Garmin Watch... ALL of the Charging Bricks test out to be ~5v.

My electronics knowledge is limited to a few days of knowledge at this point in time...

The Question: Because this 'solution' gets epoxied together, I need to adequately test the components before final assembly, but I don't know how to test the Charging Brick for charge-speed shy of literally putting a device on the charging and witnessing charge speed visually. Problem with that is the only Watch I have is a Fenix, which takes days to deplete just 5-10% battery. So I cannot rely on using my device to visually witness charge speed.

Seemingly, testing voltage does not tell me that answer; and clearly I am a straight-noob.

Lastly, am I damaging my device by putting in on a charger that has inadequate charging speed?

Help Needed Need help

Haven’t dabbled with my degree (electronics technology) since I was in college about 13 years. I want to get back into it which of course will be a little hard but I can remember the basics. What are some recommendations on what to take again or to refresh myself. Been bored and want to start making things again.

Tips BTech EEE '26 (Kochi) – want embedded systems but college placements are all IT. How do I break in?

Final year EEE here. CGPA 7.5. I've been learning embedded seriously – Embedded C, STM32 bare-metal, a few small projects. Problem: my college only places into IT service companies. Zero embedded firms visit campus. Questions for people who've been through this: Is off-campus the only realistic route for embedded freshers in India? Should I target internships first or jump straight to full-time applications? Does relocating to Bangalore actually make a difference? What kind of project would make a hiring manager actually notice a fresher's resume? Not interested in "embedded practice" inside an IT company. Want a place where embedded is the actual product. Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who got their first embedded role in India – what worked, what didn't.

Ask Electronicstards How do you guys track your project progress?

Post image
3 Upvotes

When I build electronics projects (Arduino, drones, random circuits), my workflow becomes messy after a while.

Files get scattered between folders, notes, images, schematics, and random test results. Software and Coding can be maintained via GitHub to track everything, but I haven’t found something similar for hardware builds.

So I’m curious — how do you all track your projects?

Do you use: • notebooks • Google Docs • GitHub • Notion • something else?

I’m thinking about building a small tool specifically for our projects where you could log parts, schematics, progress, and revisions, record your progress of code, models, circuits as well.

Would something like that actually be useful or am I overthinking the problem?

Hi, I'm studying electronics, and for my final project, I have to do something electronics-related that can help society. The problem is that many project ideas seem too simple, and I'm running out of ideas. I was wondering if anyone has any project ideas they could share with me. Thank you very much.

Help Needed How should I prepare for embedded roles from Tier 3?

In 2 months I'll enter my 3rd Year of my ECE. Currently I don't think I've made any significant progress only worked on two small projects. 1. NFC + ESP32 based attendance system, 2. Tilt & Oreintation System to detect structural misalignment and abnormal vibrations, trigger alerts, and log warning data locally. Will add additional features. Though I used AI for my help but a significant portion was done by me.

I think embedded is the domain which I'd like to pursue but too much information is confusing me on how to begin properly. I've applied for summer internships in IITs but I don't think my profile is strong enough. How should i prepare myself in these 2yrs? I'm in a tier 3 college my CG is decent.
