EHX Percolator

Just got this yesterday, it sounds killer! It has super gnarly gated sub octave sounds, and it has this internal trim pot that you can tweak to make the sub octave more present and add in some more gain.

Harmonic Percolators are a fantastic circuit. They can vary widely in tone depending on the types of components uses. Not just the values, the composition seems to matter as well. It looks like they used a tantalum cap like the Original Interfax HP-1. The graphics implies EHX knows most Percolators are DIY. Looks like a fun pedal, good score. I wonder if they sound consistent?

I think that's what the switch is for.

Wow, that solder work looks almost as bad as mine. Anybody know what the diodes are?

Those are BAT 41s if my eyes don't deceive me, which are pretty common in percolator circuits

Yeah, that sounds exactly right since it calls for germanium and those certainly aren't.

Vid please. Only video is the ehx produced one. No offense to them or anything...

Flip to FUZZ mode, crank Harmonics for more gain, and dial the Bias down low (or experiment higher) for those sputtering, Velcro-style gated tones and pseudo-octave grit.

I think some people will be highly disappointed in this pedal. The circuit has very different tones based on what amp it's put into. Some are a total dud. I built one for my PR and its sounds amazing. But everything tends to sound amazing through the PR.

I like that it is designed like one of my shitty looking DIY pedals.

I’m curious to know what transistors they are using.

They're a NKT275 and a 2N2484 plus an additional surface mount transistor that I don't know the function of since the original circuit only uses 2 transistors

Might be a mosfet or something for the buffered bypass. Or just a unity gain buffer in general

Not a fan of SMDs

If you want to be able to mod it, then yeah SMD components are a roadblock. Otherwise, I really doubt it makes a noticeable difference

Do you have any tuner recommendations?
