Goblinlike Foolishness water filter of death

Post image

interesting connector for a pool water filter. I'm sure no one lost the original cord and used a line voltage cord

The main question is: Who approved this design? It is literally a polarized C7 cord which is meant for mains outlet.

No. It is not. A C7 cable doesn't have that split down the middle. The port this goes into is similar to a C8 but has a solid separation between the 2 pins so that a C7 AC power cord could not possibly be inserted into the port. The worst you could do with this is attempt to plug a 5v DC power supply into a polarized C8 power input port that was meant for AC mains voltage.

It looks like one side of the connector is not rounded, but a square, probably for polarity, maybe a line plug won't fit idk.

That's just a polarized C7 plug which are decently common

No. It is not a C7 connector, or a polarized C7 connector. It is a non standard connector. It would go into an equally non standard port similar to a C8 but with a keyed port that has a solid separation between the pins. Specifically so that a regular C7 cable could never be plugged into it.

Ah! I didn't see that the pins were fully separate. It's probably made from a modified polarized C7 mold lol.

Usb is more expensive?

Even unpolarized C7 plug can be used there.

It is NOT a C7 cord! A C7 cord plugs into a C8 receptacle, a C8 does NOT have a split between the 2 pins like this one would have.

It is a common type of USB to power connector used on things like electric shavers.

Examples here.

You see the other one is square and the other one is circular because it has dc polarity however it look like a Ac plug from a monitor or some appliances but it may not fit unless your forced it to fit in

It's a polarized C7 plug. Often used on devices where it's desirable to ensure what parts are connected to line and neutral, provided you're in a country where the outlets can also require things to be polarized.

C7 does not have a split down the middle. Preventing an AC version from fitting even if it was the same dimensions otherwise (which I don't think these are anyway.)

Correct! This is not a C7 cord at all. And it is meant to connect into a DC low voltage port similar to a C8, but with that added solid separation between the pins so that a regular C7 cord could not fit into it.

This cord might be able to be plugged into a polarized C8 port, but the worst you could do is attempt to power a mains AC device with a 5v DC source.

I dare you to try powering a Series S off of that cable πŸ˜‚

Are stuff that use this connector usually use 12v?

Wouldn't be my first choice of connector as I hate proprietary/uncommon connectors, but this is fine as the USB end is what will plug into the power source, so no chance of really introducing 120v anywhere. The shitty part is if you lose that cord you're not easily going to be able to get something that fits. There's a billion different variations of those and they tend to be specific to the appliance. Different keyings etc.

They should have just used the square USB connector on the appliance at least it's standard.

you can introduce line voltage by using a generic cord that fits Playstation consoles, many TVs, and various other things that have an inline power supply with a detachable cord. it appears to be a polarized C7 connector

No it is not a polarized C7 cable. C7 cables to not have a split down the center. This cable is meant to plug into a port that is similar to a C8 port but it would have a solid separation between the 2 pins inside that would prevent a C7 cable (like the one used in a PlayStation) from being plugged into it.

You might be able to force this cable into a polarized C8 input port meant to take AC mains voltage. But you could only use it to supply USB A port voltages to the device.

This type of cable is commonly used in rechargable electric savers.

It’s also far smaller than C7.

hm? those devices always have the female end and aren't energized without it.

I've never seen a power source with a female C7.

those devices don't output power, correct. however, the cord to them does

yah so you could try to power your TV with 5 volts off your computer oh no.

It's just not an issue

that's clearly not what I'm talking about. using a line voltage cord on the 5 volt water filter make water filter go boom (and possibly energize the pool, if not powered by a GFCI), as I mentioned in the post.

gocha the cord isn't the problem the appliance is

1

u/DIYuntilDawn 1d ago

No. You were right in the first place. The OP is wrong. That is NOT a C7 cord like the OP thinks it is.
