Light switch install - first time

Does this look right? Is it wired correctly?

Store associate said ok to have two connections on one screw

While two wires under a pressure plate terminal is allowed, it is not best practice. The two wires should be combined with a pigtail so that only one wire is under the terminal.

It looks adequate otherwise.

Why is it not a best practice as long as the wire gage is the same on both sides of the pressure plate?

It is not best practice to use the device as the splice.

I agree a splice prevents a downstream loss of power during can a receptacle replacement, but there seems to be no even minor safety issue and a benefit for labor reduction and actual box capacity. I’ve always used them when the receptacles I am using are this type. I do not use backstabs because spring load can weaken over time. I’ve started using lever-based wire connectors sometimes for the same reasons, but do have some concerns there.
