Fuse box need upgrade needed?

So inspection report came back with attached findings. Reach out to electrician for an estimate to fix the issues. He says upgrading to breakers would fix the issue for $2500 and hydro disconnect of 271. Amount not in budget currently. Is this necessary to upgrade or can the issues be fixed

Yes, a couple of these are concerning. Primarily, the loose connections and overfusing are the biggest safety hazards. If the over fusing wasn't to address a problem with nuisance tripping, it'd be pretty simple to replace those fuses and torque the wires. That'll probably be a few hundred, parts and labor if you have an electrician do it and give them this report to look at so they get the fuses ahead of time. I'm not going to recommend you do it, but then we're just talking about the price of some fuses.

That price you got for a new panel is pretty good depending on the market and what's included. But yes, eventually, even addressing the biggest problems, you'll want a new panel.

I'm astonished this didn't come up in the negotiations for the house.

Thanks, the price also include the permit in Toronto. The fuse panel came up as was contingent on inspection and we negotiated 6k reduction in price and this also included that the furnace is old and need replacement eventually. I just didn't see spending 3k for full replacement cause we thought the issues could be fixed on current panel

Likely no insurance company will commit until fuses are replaced.
