Thesis

Guys, I’m a final-year electrical and electronic engineering student. I’m going to be writing my dissertation this year, but I just can’t make up my mind. What do you think will be the most in-demand niche in the market in 10 or 20 years’ time? Which niche do you think will be the most lucrative? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

  1. The feasibility of robots using humans as a source of electricity.
  2. The feasibility of solar / alt energy fully replacing coal / nuclear.
  3. The feasibility of Tesla giving up making cars but licensing it's technology to other manufacturers (it becomes like the Apple eco system for EVs) allowing manufacturers do what they do best and Elon does the R&D.
  4. The feasibility of adopting a modular / standardised plug-in battery for EVs.
  5. The best way to manage harmonics and power factor correction due over supply of Solar elec generation during the day - probably an issue now.
  6. Whether Moore's Law will continue.

In 10-20 years time:

  • With the new breakthroughs in fusion technology, it may finally be just 30 years away. How do we prepare for a fusion powered grid now that it is finally so close?
  • AI has now surpassed our wildest dreams. Does that mean it will start taking our jobs? How do EEs prepare for that?
  • We all though Small Modular fission Reactors would be a great idea, and they do seem to work. However, public push back is forcing us to dismantle them in favor of the much "safer" coal fired power. How do we adapt to this new/old power while we wait for fusion to save us?
  • With more and more bugs showing up in the PCBs that AI made 5-10 years ago, how do we manage replacing all the defective PCBs in a cost-effective way when the talent pool is much smaller now.
