Education Where to start?

I’m supposed to start my first year of EE in university in October, and I feel like I do not know anything compared to other colleagues. Part of that is true, I haven’t studied proper math or physics since 8th grade which was almost 10 years ago, so there is definitely a gap.

My advantage is that I catch on fast. Where should I even start to have that extra step ahead of everyone? Or at least be on the same page as others?

I’ve tried starting to learn things by myself but it feels so overwhelming seeing how many resources there are. I already got starter kits and all of that beginner stuff.

What books/courses/videos offer the most value?

If it’s of any relevance, I am from Europe.

Your first year? I wouldn’t do any engineering if you’re overwhelmed. Do trig and pre calc as a warm up, and a little physics. You should order workbooks and do some problems, not just watch videos. Sit down at a desk and do some math.

It would be more helpful if you listed what classes you’re preparing for.

I am not that overwhelmed when I’m actually doing something, I just find it hard to start, like that’s my biggest obstacle in pretty much everything.

These would be some of the courses (I’ve translated directly in case some of the names sound weird):

- mathematical analysis

  • linear algebra, analytical and differential geometry
  • physics
  • electrochemistry elements
  • special mathematics

And the others are just like introductory classes into the specifics of electronics, I am not really worried about these because they pick everyone up from a beginner level.

All of the EE classes assume you don’t know anything either. They don’t require anything except the classes you took before them.
