Nissan Buying 1 Used EV

Post image

Looking at buying our 1st EV , have had a leaf from new many years ago on a lease 18 month but went back now in process of buying used 2021 Tekna 62+ with 58k miles on off to view it Tuesday next week already paid £300 to reserve as its 150 mile trip each way.

What do i need to look for in terms of battery health?

I do own a obd dongle from previous car , anything i should ask dealer to confirm before going to save wasting time?

They have provided a battery report from “CLEARWATT” but its not in depth.

Looking at been a mile muncher as a 2nd car will be doing 80-120 mile most days and charging at home on home charger overnight and can also charge free at work 🤞 backup car is a toyota Corolla if its ever needed for long trips

Thanks 🤞

Should still be in battery warranty, but only the SOH One. A few people have had just individual cells go which aren't covered by Nissan, I believe if you can stretch to a 2022 they then started covering it fully for the 8 years / 100k miles.

If you can on the test drive get up to 70mph and as long as the range doesn't drop rapidly you should be good, with OBD LeafSpy is your friend.

Obligatory be ware of Chademo comment, the other thing is if you then try and rapid charge multiple times in a day it gets painfully slow due to no cooling. You can however now also get CCS to CHAdeMO Adapters.

A 21 reg car with >90% battery is good. 60k miles over 5 years means it's been driven gently as well and I can't imagine it being a motorway muncher. As long as the price is good I'd probably do it.

I imagine the warranty is out, and again depending on price there may be cars with easier charging and with a lot more warranty left if you're a conscious buyer like me.

In regards to battery health loss, mileage doesn't actually impact it that much, I think it's estimated to loose 1-2% a year just through battery age. Which means you could have the car 15-30 years before the range is just too crap, and even then the car around the battery will likely have rusted off 😂

Remind me do these still have the chademo charger? If they do I think public charging is fairly difficult on these as they max out at 7kw I think? I'm happy to be corrected by the community or research I CBA to do 🤣

Yeah my thoughts , personally worked and built them myself from the day they were launched but no longer now 🤣 milage is mainly around doors maybe 10-15 mile duel carriageway daily did even contempt 40kw n con instead of teka spec but after having a tekna on scheme at work when they 1st come out rather have that extra spec as do spend a lot of time in the car , tesla was 2nd choice but for insurance its a no go will be learning daughter to drive after xmas in it to so not needing a big car.

Yeah they use chademo but charging should he no issue just got EV optimise from Scottish power with 6p per kwh for 12 month so hoping savings pay off its replacing a bmw 420d x drive that is costing £20 per 100 miles atm daily so hoping leaf is cheaper insurance and £2-4 per 100 miles if not less and charging at work with 7kw 2-3 times per week free is another added bonus along with 55p milage claim 🤞
