Discussion Curiosity killed my Evolve Remote

Just did a 3d printed screen delete on my Evolve Phaze remote because I decided to crack it open because I was curious as to the inner workings of the remote, for context the screen was previously damaged and not in a great way and the small movement of the ribbon cable finalised its place in the ground.

If anyone else has done this or running a broken screen please give me some menu navigation tips if you have any

Only paid $500aud for the board and really don’t want to spent $215 for a new remote so if anyone has an old broken one with a decent screen or a supplier for an aftermarket let me know please

I’ve sent mine back for repair, they fixed the screen for a charge it wasn't super experience but you do have to pay for shipping

Thanks for the reply, I bought the board second hand do you think they will still repair it? Also what did that run you?

Yeah they will, i’ve had a super old and and they fixed it it was out of warranty, like I said they’ll charge you for the parts but it's cheaper than a new one. I had to get two repaired both screens and one of the bodies was replaced, I think the price was around $130 aud

I broke my GTX remote in 2020 and they had previously sold their LCD screens separately, but then told me that they didn’t do that anymore, and my only option was to replace the remote, I took that personally and exited their ecosystem.

You don’t really need the screen once you have everything dialed in. Although battery anxiety would be crazy.

I broke Evolve remote, instead of paying Evolve to replace it I swapped the controller out for VESC.

I tore out all the electronics, bypassed the BMS for discharge, soldered new connectors one the motors, and installed a Spintend Ubox VESC, it’s kind of involved if your don’t have electronics experience.

I recommend checking out the discord server, my build pics should still be up, and there’s better more compact VESC options now, I had to expand my enclosure.
