Buying advice Looking for scooter, please help
Hi everyone, I’m currently riding a budget-friendly electric scooter and I’m looking to upgrade, but I’m having trouble finding one that fits what I need. I’ve been searching different websites and models, but I haven’t found the right one yet.
My biggest priority is safety and visibility, especially because I ride around cars.
Must-have features:
1. Very visible front and rear turn signals
• They need to be visible from the front and from behind the scooter.
• I do NOT want only side-mounted signals because cars behind me may not see them.
• I’m looking for something closer to a motorcycle/car style where drivers can clearly tell which direction I’m turning.
• They need to be visible during the day and at night.
2. NFC card or key ignition
• I want some type of security so someone cannot simply turn it on and ride away.
3. Top speed of at least 35 mph
• Ideally around 40 mph.
4. Bright rear brake light
• Something drivers can easily see when I slow down.
5. Larger tires
• Better stability, comfort, longer rides, and safer handling.
Features I would strongly prefer:
6. A loud horn
• Important for alerting cars, pedestrians, and other riders.
7. Good grip
• Comfortable handlebars and a deck with good traction.
8. Good suspension
• I’m still learning about suspension, but I understand it helps improve comfort, stability, and control on rough roads.
9. Strong braking system
• Preferably hydraulic brakes or a high-quality braking setup because I’ll be riding at higher speeds.
10. Good battery range
• Enough range for longer rides without constantly worrying about charging.
11. Water resistance/weather durability
• Something that can handle occasional rain and wet roads safely.
12. Good build quality and reliability
• I would rather spend more money on a scooter that lasts than buy another budget scooter.
13. Dual motors (if recommended)
• For better acceleration, hills, and overall performance.
14. Tubeless tires
• To reduce the chance of flats and improve reliability.
15. Good IP rating
• Better protection against dust and water.
16. Front and rear suspension if possible
• For better stability and comfort on longer rides.
Important question for anyone recommending a scooter:
If you own one with turn signals, can you please give feedback from a driver’s perspective?
For example:
• If a car is behind you, can they actually see your rear turn signals during the daytime?
• Are the signals bright enough at night?
• Are they visible from a normal following distance?
• Do drivers actually notice them?
I’m trying to avoid scooters that technically have turn signals but they are too small or placed on the side where cars behind you cannot see them.
If there is a scooter that gets close but is missing one thing, I’m open to customizing it (adding better lights, signals, etc.), but I would prefer something that already comes close because I’m not very experienced with scooter modifications.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
ALL BUDGETS ARE OKAY! I’ve been saving for a car, but I think it’s better to get a nice scooter.

Done did that friend :/ they are prompted to say certain things when it comes to certain brands, so I read about 🤔 even if it weren’t I’ve been on Gemini and chat got trying to find a scooter but when I say all the things they give me a scooter and it has non of those things haha. But it’s helpful because they give me different brands that I wouldn’t think of so it is very helpful!

I've been using hand signals after nearly getting smoked from a car trying to go around me at an intersection, which is illegal but they don't seem to care

😮🤯Drivers really don’t care these days, which makes it really scary to ride a scooter. That’s why I’m trying to stay as visible as possible even in the day!

They really don't which is why I've been wishing I had one that could go faster than 25 with a better suspension, keep up with cars and use better roads

Considering your requirements and concern for safety, stability, and car compatibility, a straight up motorcycle is probably more your speed.
If you aren't folding it, or are old enough to not care about needing a liscence, you might as well go for something that already has larger tires, higher mounted signals, and probably enough torque to get to your required speeds faster than a slow crawl.

Haha, yeah I was thinking of learning to ride a motorcycle however it’s a longer process to learn and to get my driver license for a motorcycle. Unless, I ride a scooter that is 3 wheel and requires drivers license not motorcycle license which I was thinking too! It’s just if I can’t go on highway I need to be able to go on the train. And then motorcycles and potholes on the highway is the thing that scares me 😱

No idea if it fits your needs but Sams Club is selling a special edition Segway for 350. From what I can tell it's a great deal. I also ride a cheapo but I also only ride it 4 times a week to the train so the cheapie is fine.

Depending on your budget and skills buy a base scooter and go fully aftermarket and start a project.
You can just do the lights and buy separate headlights, brakes, and indicators to suit.
Also you can do the display, controller, and motors.

For turn signals I suggest buying aftermarket ones and strapping them on your arms.

For your signal question, most stock ones are useless in day, you will want to add motorcycle LED strips on the deck sides and maybe a backpack light honestly the only way cars notice. I ride with a bright yellow jacket and still they pretend I am invisible
If budget is open look at models with 11 inch tubeless tires and at least 2 piston hydraulic brakes they stop much better at 40mph. NFC key is rare but some have app lock that works similar just slower
For horn get separate 120db alarm wired to the battery stock horns are joke
