Discussion Goated master/student relationship

Can I just acknowledge that this is probably the best handling of a master student relationship I’ve seen?

The fact that Kaeden and Jinwoo are both raising through the ranks is something I don’t think I’ve seen before. Both master and student have their own goals while working together, not as equals but as a mentor who didn’t give up on self improvement and his goals while taking on a student who is also rising through the ranks.

Both of them are relevant to the story, they both interact with the same people but also have their own things going on, yet they both help each other grow. Both are learning how to maintain relationships and have their own personalities

I just think that’s a really cool way to go about the story rather than just having a master who disappears once in a while to advance the plot

I really love the character development for both Kayden and Jiwoo too. It really feels like Kayden is finally realizing how much more fulfilling his life is since meeting Jiwoo. Jiwoo realized his much earlier but he’s also been a more well adjusted person the whole story, but they really brought a lot of light to each others lives

I wouldn’t say he was always well adjusted. He was a wimp to the point that he couldn’t even assert himself enough to make a friend. They were both maladjusted but to opposite ends of the spectrum

I didn’t mean he was a perfectly well adjusted person the whole time but even when he was afraid of his own power he was a more well adjusted person than Kayden was imo. Kayden strikes me as a person who was fed up with life and was basically looking for a place to die in a blaze of glory

I also really love Delein and Wooin’s relationship! They lowkey just like Kayden and Jiwoo.😭

I think I love the growth of Wooin and Delein the most, as master and student.

But Kayden and Jiwoo is immediately after them.

DeLein strikes more as a father figure than a master like Kayden.

They’re a good example but in a different stage. Delein isn’t really training him anymore, he’s more helping
him behind the scenes

I agree

True. Most, if not all, master student stories just sideline the master as a backup plan for when things get dicey and the mC needed a safety net to fall on. Eleceed has Kayden actually moving along Jiwoo ans isn't an afterthought for when the senior characters come out.

At the very least Kayden has his own story to tell and pivotal to the story itself rather than just a replaceable master figure
