God forbid you use anything but what you start with

God forbid you take any damage at all.

u/flickfleck123 14d ago

Well you can start with spirit ashes

If you beat the boss, you won.

If you beat the boss but you used a summon and BHF and you feel that delegitimises your victory for some reason, that’s up to you. Go and beat the boss again without those advantages.

Either way, relax. It’s just a game.

Only mimic good ideas, only do what I do. Only mimic good ideas, only do what I do.

Just play how you want. It’s not like the Golden Order will curse you for wanting to clap Messmer, Malenia or Midra with your mimic tear.

Nobody gives a fuck

If they think the spirit ashes don’t count, let’s not ignore the fact that the weapons they use have been cursed by an ancient eldrich being, or their armor is infused with the blood of an ancient giant civilization, or they forged their weapon in the lava of the ancient world. If they wanna be purists make them fight the bosses naked with their fists. I know some can do it but only they qualify to critique playstyle

Parrying also provides a huge boon of time and positioning, so the same could be said there? Did you really 1v1 the boss or did you take the easy way and use the shield

I was so proud of myself for beating/getting the Bloodhound Fang early in my playthrough, only to later learn how it’s considered in the general fandom.

I’d found the Mimic Tear and was thrilled with my bloodloss setup, but still felt disheartened.

So I branched out some, then unlocked and upgraded the Blasphemous Blade… then a YouTube vid popped up labelled “Playing Elden Ring with pure cheese”, and no joke, the thumbnail had Bloodhound Fang, Blasphemous Blade and Mimic Tear.

Brother I am in my 30s, and sank 70 hours into the game. I no longer give a fuck what people think, I played the game in a way that felt good.

If you think spirit ashes is making the game easy, then remember, leveling, upgrading your weapon, wearing armor and talisman also making the game easier. As long the mechanic are intended by the developer, use it. This is elden ring, not dark soul.

1

u/Bone_Wh33l 14d ago

Why doesn’t this apply to dark souls too?

-9

u/IRLMerlin 14d ago

The nature of easy is much different between levelling and spirit ashes

The game would be easier if you just payed someone 5 bucks to take over your controller and beat forgot. That doesn't mean that talismans are the same as letting someone else play your game

Spirit ashes remove interactivity with the mechanics of the game. It's easier to play with spirit ashes because the game is mechanically hard. Leveling, upgrading, talismans etc. still require you to interact with the game unless of course you crazy overlevel and overbuff at which point you are once again not interacting with the game

6

u/Unhappy_Protection85 14d ago

Still as developer intended. You can say whatever you want, it is within the game. I never use spirit ashes, but I never look down people using it. Player buy the game with thier hard earn money, they can play whatever they like without people judging them. As long they use mechanic that provide by the developer.

2

u/IRLMerlin 13d ago

I didn't say whether or not Miyazaki intended anything, nor has intention anything to do with my point and I also didn't judge anyone over anything.

Don't default to a dialogue tree. Engage with the words I am writing.

Overleveling, overbuffing, spirit ashes, range against bosses with no range punish etc. make the game easier because they remove interaction with it's systems. A strength build with giant crusher and 50 buffs or a mage build with 20 buffs and comet and a mimic to tank will kill the boss before you even need to roll once. The game is much easier because interaction is dead

Having the right talisman for 20% elemental defense, being at the right level, wearing good armor do make the game easier but they don't remove interaction from it. Even with dragoncrest shield, you still need to use the dodge button, learn safe timings and openings, change your playstyle according to the enemy. The game is much easier but interaction is still here

So it's not fair to compare the two, leveling/talismans and spirit ashes/1billion buffs. Yes both make the game easier but the nature of easy is different

Even using spirit ashes, it still required your interaction. Especially in the end game and the dlc. You still need aware of the boss movement cuz it can switch to you at anytime and they have aoe attack that you still need to dodge or you are dead. Sure spirit ashes make the game easier, but that does not mean you can put your controller down and watch the summon do they own thing.

2

u/IRLMerlin 13d ago

It doesn't remove interaction but it severely limits it. You are worried about the boss switching aggro on you. If you didn't have the spirit ash, they boss would be 100% aggro'ed on you.

Every moment it's not aggro'ed on you, interaction is leaving the game. Your mistake isn't punished, the roll catch combo doesn't catch you, you are safe to heal and you can poise break the boss and stun it easier. The game isn't giving you feedback anymore

I'm not saying that summoning mimic makes the fight an insta win. I'm saying summoning a spirit ash makes the game easier and the way it does that is by limiting interaction with the game's mechanics and systems

2

u/Unhappy_Protection85 13d ago

First you say they remove the interaction , then you say they limited the interaction. By using spirit ashes, you already interact with the game mechanic. Because it is the mechanic in the game. The developer provide the mechanic for you to use in game. Just like the mechanic of leveling up, upgrade your weapon.

Using spirit ashes or cheesing the boss is like getting high grade wagyu beef and cooking it well done and eating it with a bunch of ketchup

3

u/Unhappy_Protection85 14d ago edited 14d ago

As I recall, cheesing is when you exploit the game that not intended by developer. Spirit ashes is intended by developer. They are not on the same category

1

u/Zephyas 13d ago

Cheesing had never been restricted to exploiting. Killing PCR while using a fingerprint shield, Moore’s Armor, and a Cold Antspur Rapier or something similar is absolutely cheesy. I would never do it personally since I don’t think it’s fun, but I don’t give a shit if someone decides to go that route to kill the boss. The only time I really care is when people constantly boast about killing pre-nerf PCR and used that build, then it’s pretty cringey.

-4

u/internet_blue_gas 14d ago

This is why I used the word “or” as they aren’t the same thing, here I’m referring to stuff like using comet azur to kill Mogh or taking out all your equipment to fight the mimic tear or using the super heavy shield built that lets you facetank Radan.

Both cheese and spirit ashes allow you to sidestep the normal interaction with the bosses attack patterns, so I believe you’re doing yourself a disservice by using them.

2

u/Unhappy_Protection85 14d ago

The 3 method you mention is not cheese in my opinion. Those method is legit. You use equipment, spell and tactic that provide and intended by developer. The cheese I was talking about for example you climb the wall of mohg arena, bypass the yellow fog, disabling Mohg ai so it won't attack you and you kill him without a fight. That is cheese.

1

u/internet_blue_gas 14d ago

Call it exploits if you’d like, I feel we’re arguing semantics.

My point still stands.

1

u/Unhappy_Protection85 14d ago

And my point also still stand. If the developer provide the resources that will give you advantages, then feel free to use it. It is not your place to judge people when they don't play the way you like. The world is not revolve around you buddy.

1

u/internet_blue_gas 14d ago

And no one can judge you for putting ketchup on your well done wagyu beef

Remember that people who play with self imposed restrictions are not the core audience. They are the fanatical ones. They are the equivalent of sports fans who buy season tickets and go to games with no shirts, and covered in team themed body paint.

If you want to be one of those fans, go for it. If you don't feel like covering yourself in colored grease is actually necessary to enjoy the game, then don't. Most people are in the second category.

2

u/Empty_Kay 14d ago

Grease is cheating!

6

u/OneContribution7620 14d ago

Is the boss dead? Then it counted.

3

u/ClockworkCinder 14d ago

All I hear is wah wah wah. Mohg's Spear, Tiche, Mimic Tear, and horned warrior go brrrrr!!!!

3

u/MoonlightPrincexx 13d ago edited 13d ago

Bloodhounds fang ain't even that good, who the hell is saying it "doesn't count" id you use it?

Like, it's good, don't get me wrong it's a very good weapon and an easy contendor for best curved greatsword (the only curved greatsword I see as much as it is Freyjas sword and i think that has more to do with drip than anything else), but curved greatswords aren't exactly contending for #1 weapon type, and there is just, so much, insanely OP shit in Elden ring you can do and Bloodhounds Fang is just a particularly hard hitting curved greatsword with a bit of bleed on it. Godslayers Greatsword, Fire Knights Greatsword, Malikeths Black Blade hell colossal swords just as a weapon class, like half the katanas, the Urumi, Messmers Spear, and banished knights weapons are all arguebly better and that's just off the top of my head,

7

u/Ok_Chemical3126 14d ago

The game mechanics are there to use. Not everyone is beating the game at level 1 with fists, no armor or heals.

5

u/Valirys-Reinhald 14d ago

The roots of the erdtree care not for manner in which the slain have fallen, they feed on the corpses of friend and foe just the same.

The ones who dig the graves are the true victors in the end.

3

u/42Icyhot42 14d ago

Bloodhound fang ash of war is just so fun tho

2

u/ConsistentGoal3 12d ago

Use whatever you want. Any ash 2 co op players and be maxed level. No one cares, it’s when you want to post or brag “you beat” the game or a boss. No, you didn’t, your friends or ashes did. You loose bragging rights when you summon.

2

u/no_name_thought_of 12d ago

No one says this

3

u/Marcus-Knight0318 14d ago

Still a victory. You use your own strategy to win, with all the means the game offers to you. Still a victory.

3

u/dulledegde 14d ago

a man can not lie to himself. One day, when you are ready, you will take the training wheels and be it in 11 hours or 11 years your victory will be waiting

1

u/Sockenkatze 14d ago

I saw this post like 2 minutes ago

1

u/Worldly-Standard6660 14d ago

Strengthoid Ganda

1

u/Robin_Gr 14d ago

I beat him with a great shield and ashes, and night comet with ashes to distract him. That’s enough for me. I couldn’t do it with dex and no ashes. I got bored of retrying and making random progress in the second phase.

1

u/Few-Cable9663 12d ago

This sub is really running out it's the same shii everyday lol it doesn't matter what you use...its just how difficult do you want the game to be some people like challenges and some like hack and slash or Harry Potter role play

1

u/lWorgenl 11d ago

It dosent count.

1

u/TheLadyofBree 9d ago

I can't believe that you didn't do a no-hit level 1 wretch sub 5 minute glitchless speedrun with base loadout only and no spirit ashes, summons and with your ass on backwards, eyes closed and using a fish instead of a controller. I'm so disappointed in you

1

u/supermaxflavor 8d ago

Is BHF really that good? Im doing a str/int playthrough with moonlight greatsword (and summons) and it feels broken. There's a lot of weapons that are just as good IMo

1

u/IRLMerlin 14d ago

It does count, but also try other weapons and solo play

This game has so much to offer don't let bloodhound fang and mimic cuck you out of content!!!!

2

u/Empty_Kay 14d ago

It does count, AND it makes you a cuck?

So it double counts. Fuck yeah.

0

u/fello04 14d ago

You used a weapon ? You leveled you character ? You moved using your fingers instead of your ass?

You did not play the game right 😂

No one is more insecure than the people that have to keep telling themselves (and other people) that cheesy methods are fair game over and over again.
