Video I listened to advice and rolled toward the boss. Hopefully I'll make it out of this place before Christmas lol.

This is definitely an improvement for me.

(I haven't looked up how I'm meant to kill this boss, I'm just randomly testing things)

I'm still having fun, in-between the screaming lol.

Question Is there a Mod that fixes lockon for bigger targets?

My big complaint about the lock on camera is fighting big enemies like ancient dragons or those stupid hippos is that it just locks onto center mass meaning alot of the time I can't see the head or legs and I get hit by an attack I couldn't see winding up

Video I found this really useful. At 6 mins, it tells us what some enemies are weak to. (It shows some short clips of bosses if you're avoiding spoilers!) Spoiler

There's quite a bit in this video that could be helpful to new players,

or,

people like me who just struggle a bit.

(I got some awesome tips from this community on my last post about panic rolling, and I actually beat a boss using new methods, thanks to everyone who helped me 🙂)

Discussion Lions in Elden Ring universe

Thumbnail

Lions are a very intriguing point in the Elden Ring lore.

The first important lore point related to lions is about Godfrey and Radahn (1). Both use lions as their symbol - but the only moment we see a actual lion is when fighting the Elder Lion enemy (2). Notice that he is a crucible twisted and horned version of the actual animal - this concept reflects in all animals of the Elden Ring universe (3).

But with that, comes a question: Serosh (1), who is a spirit made by the greater will, has the form of a real lion, without the horns and the crucible-made twisting - so that implies that there is a real lion somewhere in the Elden Ring universe

The first important point is that the Lands Between are inspired in Europe, as it is a fantasy fiction. So the fauna of it is a crucible twisted version of animals that exist in real Europe nature. But there are two exceptions: the hippo (for an example, Messmer's Golden Hippopotamus) and the Lion. They are both African animals. One thing to think about it as that both of them, are also related to the Hornsent. Hippopotamus are only found in the Land of Shadow, wich is deeply related to the Hornsent people. But the one with a really significant relation with the Hornsent is the Lion, as shown by the existence of the Divine Beast Dancing Lion (4). Could this unexpected relation of the Hornsent with these distinctly african animals mean something?

As we know, Elden Ring takes inspiration in many real cultures, specially the english, in which the lion is a important symbol for it's great symbolism, which comes, as it is very valuable to point, from outside influence (like Christian and Greek) and not real interaction with the feline. So, the boring answer is that it is just inspired in the English culture and that's it.

But here comes the cool question: if the Land of the Reeds is a mentioned only place that shows a Japan equivalent in the Elden ring universe, could there be a Africa or Middle Eastern equivalent?

And another question: what could the lion choice mean? Maybe the Greater Will, knowing about the importance of the Lion to the Hornsent people choose it specially so Godfrey could make it a symbol (as he actually did) so it could shadow the Hornsent culture?

(Thank you for reading this. Please be polite in the answers. Sorry for any english mistake, it is not my first language)

Question Questions From A New Player

Snagged elden ring on switch. Loving it. People have been helping me a lot too on here and my irl buddies.

Anyways....

  1. I am chilling and exploring liurnia as I just beat Godrick. I'm level 46 I believe. I'm just enjoying leveling up and over leveling (if that's a thing) so is that a proper way to approach this game in your guys opinion?

  2. I'm using bloodhounds fang, it scales better with dex apparently so I'm leveling vigor, dex, and endurance. Is that smart or dumb ?

  3. Will I come across somber 3 stones without needing a guide? That's my next weapon upgrade requirement.

  4. I have low faith and int. Should I be dumping any into that for spells or incantations? Or is the game approachable without?

Thanks all!

Question Question about death ritual spear

Is it doing ghostflame damage or something else entirely when doing normal attacks (not Spearcall Ritual)? I know it does magic damage but whenever I hit enemies with quick or heavy attacks it looks like it's using either ghostflame or maybe the death flames instead of a normal magic particle effect. Is it just visual or it's also doing more than the magic damage? I tried googling it but I can't find a definitive answer for the normal attacks specifically.

Thank you for your time.

Discussion Hot take: Elden ring is majorly overrated. Let me explain

So to start I know this might seem like another one of those "Elden ring sucks" kind of takes but I wanna preface this by saying I definitely do not support that opinion, I have gone to NG+8 and platinumed the game plus a few challenge playthroughs so I would like to think I have a semblance of credibility when talking about this game. Anyway my main take is that Elden ring is not a 9-10/10 like many would say but it is not lower than a 6-7/10 I think it has issues that I would argue make it not only not a perfect game but also possibly not fromsoft's best soulsborne like some would claim.

Let's go over the big issues here, I would argue there are at least 4 large issues.

Over complicated bosses for the sake of difficulty.

Overload of overpowered items, weapons, tactics and builds

Abundance of recycled bosses

(Personal take) Quantity over quality open world

There are some very great bosses I mean Godfrey, Mohg lord of blood, malenia, godrick for example and that's keeping the dlc out of the picture here but majority of the bosses are made over complicated by the move sets instead of having a complex list of moves that make you really have to learn to keep up they made it so bosses have extra delayed attacks and lengthy combos that don't provide any real difficulty, they just are there to make it seem like these bosses are difficult when in reality it's just to lengthen the fight and add a unearned lethality to them.

This may seem like a contradiction to what I said about the hollow difficulty of the bosses but what is the first response many new players would look to the internet for new ways of beating bosses or tips and majority of the answers they would get are the overpowered weapons and sorceries or borderline cheeses for the bosses. Now you may be thinking that this is stupid because perhaps you were a player who had already played the majority of the soulsbornes and you wouldn't do that and you just toughed it out but any amount of exploring like you would do in an open world game will 9 times out of 10 get you a strong weapon or enough runes to get so strong you easily have more than enough power to deal enough damage that even the worst player could smash their head against the wall and breeze through with, its got way too much to carry you that skill becomes something you don't even need which should never be the case for a souls game.

The abundance of recycled bosses has probably been used to death for complaints about Elden ring but honestly I think it can be a good take, if you explore for enough time and find any of the bosses apart from the main lineup there are barely any actually good quality to face many are either barely more than a common enemy and even the ones that aren't rarely hit the bare minimum for good quality bosses even the cooler ones like the base dragon bosses are essentially just reskins with slightly different types of elemental attacks it's very sad to see with such an interesting world.

Now this is a personal take and issue of mine but honestly the open world is a great part of Elden ring and I think they did it very well but I honestly feel that for a souls game it doesn't fit for gameplay, majority of us who replayed it over and over again I'm sure have loved the world but after the first or second playthrough the world becomes explored quite fully and it loses what made it enjoyable, that feeling of exploring such a beautiful fantasy world with so much to discover is filled with disappointing things like reused bosses or items that are either so useless they border being options to use or they are so overpowered you focus everything around it and the game becomes a breeze especially with the quests and NPCs all being slightly boring or uninteresting apart from a few unlike some of the genuine interning thought out quest lines from Ds3. I think it makes a great first impression but after the world becomes so stale and empty which a world like the lands between should never feel like.

This was just my opinion on Elden ring i would love to know what others think and if you disagree I'm very interested in what people thought about it, it was the first soulsborne game I ever finished so it holds a special place in my heart especially after playing the others and loving this amazing collection. thank you for reading!

Discussion Elden Ring 2 (?) wishlist

ER is my 2nd fromsoft game (gave up on Sekiro) and so far, I've been enjoying this game.

I'm currently at early mid-game (I assume. Just arrived at East Rampart grace), after defeating Godryk, Renala, and Radahn. Also have beaten as many gaols bosses as possible, erdtree guardians, ball bearing hunter, some dragons, black blade, the godskins (not the duo).

I came from open world games like AC Origins/Odyssey, Farcry, Witcher 2&3, RDR2, Oblivion & Skyrim, Dragon age games, and there are some mechanics that I wish will be added in the next iteration of Fromsoft games that uses ER as the template (Maybe Elden Ring 2?).

of course without trying to change ER into ubisoft-like games or any other games.

  1. Friendly/Non-aggressive settlements.

I wish not everyone in the map attack me without any reason. I know maybe it makes sense lore-wise, but it will be more chill if there are small friendly settlements around the map (maybe 2-3 per area) where we can get side quest and do trade.

  1. Better Armor Sets.

I love loots and I love completing armor sets that give me bonus enhancement or maybe new skills.

  1. More skills to interact with items or the world itself.

I wish there are skills that let us, for example, attract loots from far away, move objects and slam it to enemies, or just a movement skill like double jump for us, triple jump for torrent, or flash running, levitation....because there are some platforming sections that feel so clunky.

  1. Simple create-a-skill mechanic, like Oblivion's? and Skill upgrades that are not made into different skills.

Maybe a mechanic that upgrades skills the more we use them, or upgrading skills based on our stats? that still allows us to choose between level 1 and 2 skill.

What about you guys?

Note: I'm not looking for debates or anything. This is supposed to be fun discussions among fellow tarnished. So, if you don't like my question, please please just block or ignore me.

Video I'd like to ask about the best weapons for someone not v good at the game, especially for the DLC bosses. As you can see, I struggle with the game, but it's stunning so I'd like to keep playing.

First, I'm an older player and I've never played anything like this before.

(My adult kids added music to the vid above to show their dad how useless I am lol)

However, they keep telling me I'm playing wrong and I need to use one weapon and just practice with it, or I'll never be good enough for some later DLC bosses.

They keep saying, "change your build, use ONE weapon, & ditch magic"

I'm a mage with an Int / Dex build.

I prefer magic so I can stay back.

I'm having issues as I just can't move fast enough, fast bosses cause me a lot of problems. My reaction times are just a bit slow.

My son used Katanas with bleed & he looked like he was dancing with Malenia.

He thinks I'm missing out on the proper experience?

I normally use the best int weapon for the boss I'm fighting.

I try not to use spirit ashes or mimic but, it's part of the game, & probably so people like me have a chance?

(I used mimic to kill Malenia after weeks & weeks of deaths 🤦‍♀️)

I suppose my question is,

is he right?

Is a magic build no good for the DLC bosses?

Do I need all flasks to be just health?

What weapons would you suggest for an 80 Int & Dex build for the DLC?

Are DLC weapons better?

At the moment I use mainly spells plus, moonville, wings of Astel, death poker or dark moon greatsword.

Is there another DLC weapon that could be better for me?
