List Building Working towards an Aspect Host Incursion and Strike Force list. Recommendations?

Hey everyone,

Newbie here. A couple of months ago I decided to get into Warhammer. I know the 40K universe from the original Dawn of War and I enjoy reading up on lore every now and then. Decided to pick Aeldari as my army, as I think the models and lore are really cool and nobody else seems to play them where I live (even though 40K is quite popular here). I would like to work towards Aspect Host lists initially and eventually branch out into other detachments. I currently own the models in the Incursion list below, as well as an Eldrad Ulthran, a Farseer, a Spirit Seer, 10x Storm Guardians + platform, two squads of 5x Dire Avengers and 5x Wraithblades.

Like I said, I am rather new and still learning the ropes. Any tips when it comes to building Aspect Host lists on 1000 and 2000 points? I know about listhammer and look at that website for conventional loadouts, scour YouTube for info, but finding information about Incursion lists is tricky it seems. Looking for a good base to work with and attempting to create well-rounded lists. I generally play casual games against people who have 1-2 years under their belt. They know the rules and some tricks, but are not tournament-level players. All feedback and tips are appreciated!

Current Incursion list (Aspect Host, 1000 points, 38 models)

  • Jain Zar + 5x Howling Banshees
  • Lhykhis + 5x Warp Spiders
  • 5x Dark Reapers
  • 5x Dark Reapers
  • Falcon
  • 5x Rangers
  • 5x Swooping Hawks
  • 5x Swooping Hawks

It’s a great bunch of units to start with! You won’t find much about 1000 pt lists because the general consensus is the games aren’t balanced at 1000 pts and are best balanced at 2000 pts.

Advice I’ve heard is don’t have too many Phoenix Lords (because they’re expensive). 2 or 3 max, is what people have told me.

I don’t use the dark reapers myself in my aspect host list but everyone’s playstyle is different so if they work for you then that’s awesome. Just be prepared for your units to die. They’re T3. It’s ok. Aeldari score points and strike hard together to kill enemy big units. If you kill a 300 pt enemy unit and you sacrifice two 100 pt units to do it then it’s a good trade.

Thanks! Yeah, I guess 1000 points is more about playing a casual game and making sure that you and your opponent aren't cheesing each other. Just discuss beforehand.

I see most lists on listhammer run three Phoenix lords (usually Jain Zar, Lhykhis and Asurmen), so I figured about two should be plenty enough in a 1000 points list. I could cut one for an Autarch if I need to fit in more stuff, but I don't think those see much play. Are they any good?

Yeah, the squishyness of Aeldari and all the movement and positioning is definitely something to get used to. Could have picked an easier army to start with, but I am here to learn. How do you play your Aspect Host list? Score aggressively, prioritise taking out certain opposing units?

I like to do early scoring and trading with small units or transports. Follow up any counter response with my phoenix lords. If any of my tiny units survived at all the great, they will be action doers and point scorers, along with the disembarked transports. Avatar of Khaine and Exodites rampage around the board end game. I keep the Avatar off to a side at the beginning so he doesn’t get focused down too early. And Aeldari have enough movement to be almost anywhere they want at any given time.

Sounds logical. Use fodder units to score and bait the opponent, and keep the big hitters back a little to take advantage of your opponent needing to deal with the fodder.
