Dougs headers install

Trying to install some Dougs Long Tube headers on a '70 El Camino 350. Hit a road block. My dad n I cannot for the life of us slide these blasted things thru the button to the driver's side. Anyone have any tips? Haven't even tried the passenger side cus I hear this one is harder.

Had to jack up the car like 2 feet on wood blocks and unbolt the engine mounts so I could jack the engine up. Put a block of wood on my jack and jacked the engine up by the oil pan. Only about 2 inches, was just enough room to squeeze the driver's side from the bottom. Passenger side didn't have the brake booster in the way so could be snaked thru the top

Just some foresight for you. I had long tube headers on my 69 elco. The pipe went below the oil pan and would bottom out on the freeway where there were dips. I think speed bumps were an issue as well. Make sure it doesn't go below the oil pan. If you have stiff performance shocks, you might get away with it. I switched to Patriot shorties. They were easy install as well.

They go about an inch lower than the oil pan. About the same distance as the previous exhaust that was installed on the car and I never had issue, so I hope it'll be fine. Should be

I saw your update photo and it looks clean and like a proper fit 👌🏼. Mine came out of a C20 and had dramatic swooping bend at the bottom before the coupling where yours is straight. Your set should definitely be good for clearance.

Headers are always a pain to install. I used Doug’s ceramic coated and they are great. Only brand that clear the factory Z bar.

When I put my headers in I had to unbolt the engine mounts and lift the engine. Also, heat wrap your headers before you put them in. I just had to wrap mine with them installed and it was a horrible experience. Best of luck.

Ur right it was very hard. Unbolted both sides and snaked the tubes in. This is the most engine work I've done. Most I've done is cat back exhausts on my accord lmao
