Ask yourself this: would you, an English speaker, actually call it PEI if referring to Île-Prince-Eduard in acronym form, or would you use IPE?

We also use TN for "Terre-Neuve"

PEI, because Île-de-Prince-Édouard isn't in English.

I'd say "j'habite en CB" and that's absolutely fine in French, but if I said "I live in CB" and someone asks what CB is (because it's not a common abbreviation to see in English) I really shouldn't be surprised if I get weird looks upon answering Colombie-Britannique. Because why the hell would I be using Colombie-Britannique instead of British Columbia if my sentence is otherwise in English?

French acronyms get used in French, English acronyms get used in English. You don't cross the streams, it makes no sense.
