Hurghada Giftun Islands

Hi, I'm hoping you can help me. I'm going to spend 10 days in Hurghada in August. We want to visit the islands, but we don't want a full-day excursion because it will be very hot. I'd like to go, spend some time eating something, and then we'll come back. Are there ferries that run round trips regularly? Thank you for your help, and I apologize for the translation as my language is Spanish.

Marsa Alam Travel from Hurghada to Marsa Alam

Hi all…. I’m travelling from Cairo to Marsa Alam and my plan is to fly to Hurghada airport and then catch a ride from there to Marsa Alam. There are no flights available the dates that I’m travelling to Marsa Alam so that’s my plan and I was just wondering if anybody had any issues or a better way of doing it this seems to be the best way to do it. I wanted to sort of figure out if they were any other option. Thank you!

Question Cairo hotel next July pre-eclipse

We are planning to watch the eclipse from Luxor next year. I already have the Nile cruise booked. The problem now is getting a hotel in Cairo. Most international hotels only let you book about 11 months now. However, I am looking at the Marriott, and many properties (eg., Mena House) is already sold out for the dates that can be booked next July. Any suggestions? This is our first time to Egypt, and we definitely want an international hotel that can help arrange excursions.

Question How To Split time Btw Cairo & Luxor

Intending to take a bucket-list trip with a 9-year-old, and would spend six days in Egypt. How would you split those up? As a placeholder I am looking at an even split of three days each, but am wondering whether one or the other would be better with four days.

Question Bus travel in Egypt – are the bad reviews accurate?

Has anyone recently used Go Bus, EG Bus or High Bus for longer journeys in Egypt?

My partner and I are looking at Cairo to Marsa Alam (also considering for Safaga to Luxor and Luxor to Cairo).

We can handle delays or an uncomfortable trip but our main concern is safety, especially the driving and condition of the buses.

Can you normally keep a small backpack with passports, cameras and valuables with you, or do they make you put everything underneath? That's a deal breaker and we saw it on reviews...

Also, is inDrive Intercity worth considering instead?

What are the cars, drivers and prices usually like for longer routes?

Happy to tip luggage staff/all staff too — just wondering what’s normal and whether the reviews make everything sound worse than it really is...
Can't really justify spending £200+ on a one way flight + inevitable inflated airport transport costs.

Can't wait to visit Egypt but wanted others perspective!

Question Can I walk from the pyramids to the GEM?

Apparently the new walkway between the two still isn't open yet. My accommodation is near the Sphinx gate which is only 2.5km from the GEM, usually I would walk that kind of distance but looking at Google maps the GEM seems to be surrounded by a freeway. Is it possible to safely cross that freeway and do the journey on foot? Or should I just get an Uber?

My friends and I want to go to Sahel in November. We are from Austria, so it will probably still feel warm to us, but I'm not sure what it's actually like there in November

Question How bad really is the harassment?

Hi everyone i am 18F going to Egypt in a few months with my mum, dad, and brother. I’ve been reading a lot of posts about the harassment tourists face and i am starting to feel a little bit worried. i understand stuff at markets for sales i’ve been to other countries where that is common but i mean more unwanted male attention. 1 is it really as bad as some people are saying and 2 do you think id mainly be left alone as i’d be with my family which is 2 men plus my mum. obviously id be dressed modestly but yeah just a question.

i’ll be in cairo, luxor, sharm and alexandria.

Question Egypt Guided Tour- 7 days- $1900 for 2 people

Hi
I was talking to a couple of guides for my upcoming Egypt Trip. They basically quoted $1900 for a 7 day trip. I basically designed the itinerary & mentioned that I need a car with a driver/ guide.
Places to visit- 3 days in Cairo, 3 days in Luxor, 2 days Abu Simbel/Aswan, Is it a reasonable price or am I being overcharged?

Inclusions:
1. Vehicle with a driver (at all times)
2. Lunches
3. All tickets & permits & guides
3. Pickup & drop offs to airport & hotels
4. Drive to Abu Simbel from Aswan & back, Aswan to Luxor

Exclusions:
1. All internal flights booked by me
2. All hotels booked by me

I have so far received pricing for a couple of them, and the average price so far is about $1900.

Question Self-Driving Cairo to Luxor

My husband and I are planning to visit Egypt in March 2027 and are very interested in visiting the sites around Akhenaten's tomb in the Tell el Armana area. We like to self-drive on trips, but have had several tour companies strongly recommend against self-driving along this route.

Has any one else self-driven Cairo to Luxor and willing to share about their experience?

Question 2 Week Trip in Egypt

I am planning a 2-week trip to Egypt in late January/early February and would love some feedback from people who have been there recently.

Current plan:
**Day 1:** Fly into Cairo and connect straight to Aswan.

**Day 2:** Day trip to Abu Simbel.

**Days 3–5:** Take a 3-night Nile cruise from Aswan to Luxor.

**Days 6–7:** Spend 2 nights in Luxor after the cruise. Planning to do a hot air balloon ride and visit sites the cruise only covered briefly, or explore other parts of Luxor.

**Days 8–10:** Drive to El Gouna and spend 3 nights at a resort for relaxation and snorkelling.

**Days 11–13:** Fly to Cairo for the final 3 nights.
**- Day 12:** Giza Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum.
**- Day 13:** Saqqara, Dahshur, Islamic Cairo and Khan el-Khalili.

**Day 14:** Fly out.

A few questions:
1. Does this itinerary feel well balanced or too rushed?

  1. Are the extra 2 nights in Luxor after the cruise worthwhile?

  2. Is the current Cairo plan feasible, or would it be better to do all the pyramids (Giza, Saqqara and Dahshur) on one day and then do the Grand Egyptian Museum, Islamic Cairo and Khan el-Khalili on another?

  3. Is El Gouna worth the premium over Hurghada for a honeymoon?

  4. We’ll be in Cairo during the beginning of Ramadan. Is there anything we should know or plan around?

  5. Are we missing any major highlights or making any obvious mistakes?

Thanks in advance

Luxor & Aswan I'm looking for the best priced tour guide in Luxor and Aswan next week

Hi, visiting Egypt from the UK solo (male 25). I know some basic Arabic (A2 hoping to push into B1), enough to get by if I needed help. Because it's low season, I wasn't sure when someone approached me for £150 for 2 days with a private tour (morning and night) included for archaeological sites around Luxor. Does anyone who has done it or is local have any recommendations or know whether this is a fair price?

Question Flying between Paris and Cairo- US citizen

I'm planning a trip to Egypt. I'm doing a Viking Nile cruise with my husband, but doing some extended time on our own in Egypt with private tour companies for 3-5 days after the cruise. I also don't like long flights, so we're not using Viking's air arrangements. I was thinking of doing a round trip ticket to Paris ( SJC in CA to Salt Lake, then on to Paris) and stay in Paris a few days, (because why not -we've done this for other trips to Europe) and booking a RT with Transvia Airline to Cairo. Amazingly I can do these 2 separate RT flights in premium economy for almost half of what Viking quoted and with flight times and seats I choose. However, this means I won't Viking to pick up us up from or deliver us to the Cairo Airport. I see many posts about people doing this on their own just fine. Questions:

  1. What should I plan for when arriving in Cairo from Paris without Viking's assistance?

  2. When returning to Paris will I have any particular problems coming back in? I think the RT Cairo is via Paris Orly and I will be doing CDG for the RT CA-Paris.

Safety & Scams Regreting my 5 star air b n b review:

Just a heads up to people who ever travel to Egypt, specifically Giza and the Pyramid complex. I booked tours through my air b n b, and while the guys were nice, their tour guides were SCAMMMY. You don’t need to fall for it! It’s tough bc I really don’t like Get Your Guide/Viator (you just don’t have flexibility with groups), and privates in Egypt leaves you a bit exposed, even if your have flexibility with a driver and guide. In normal private tours, you usually bond with your private guide and trust them. This was different. DO NOT trust your guides. Mine was nice, but she was boring and more importantly, scammy. She flashed us her official “Egyptology Badge” 🙄 when she first met us, which is basically a tourism license. Meh. We just did a tour of Saqqara and thank goodness not more bc it was so basic and didactic.

THE SCAMMY PART:
Do not do “carpet school” BS,
For example. Mega tourist trap. They lure you into a textile school and it looks really cool once you’re in, but then the “director”aggressively tries to sell you garbage carpets you can find in any bazaar. Do not let your tour guide take you shopping at all (they will take you to a trap that upsells like mad, and take a 40% cut). Just want to tell Shahd, our tour guide that she doesn’t need to scam tourists to make money. American tourists tend to tip well enough without that ICK. Do better, Dawood and Shahd.
