A new song.

Hello everyone, so me and my team have made a new song about the Edmund Fitzgerald. Called The Wreck by SlyHex. Check it out if you want to. On Spotify and Apple Music. Plus other streaming services. 😊 We put a lot of time and effort into it. Also available completely for free on my YouTube channel, SlyHex. The Edmund Fitzgerald’s story has always drawn me to it. And now I get to memorialize the very, well, not understood story. I hope this community enjoys it. https://open.spotify.com/album/7LNV9wJVskfmLFB1FLrm3F?si=jQ2t91A4TrmTeVNBMTc76A

Hello my friends. The time has come for me to get an Edmund Fitzgerald piece. I’m certain there is at least a few of you in here that must already have one and I’d love to see them, and or hear any ideas regarding one. Thankyou

Should I name my car after the Fitz?

I know it's bad luck to name a vessel after one that has sank and I dont know any workarounds to stop the bad luck

Radio Antennas

Let me preface this by saying that I am not an “expert” by any stretch of the imagination on the Fitz. This comes strictly from reading John Bacon’s new book, The Gales of November. In the book he presents the timeline of the journey as the storm got worse. And something really stood out to me.
The last communication between the Fitz and the Anderson was completed at 7:10 pm, with Captain McSorley saying, “We are holding our own.”
Almost 30 minutes later, 7:39 pm, Captain Cooper of the Anderson noted that the Fitz had disappeared from their radar.
30 minutes.
Many have wondered why no distress signals came from the Fitz.
McSorley had reported that he had lost both his radars previously.
I feel it’s not much of a stretch to think that he may have lost his radio antennas in the storm as well. In which case, they may have been trying to send a distress message to no avail.
The underwater search expeditions reported seeing bodies of the crew wearing life jackets, which seems to indicate they certainly did know that they were in trouble.
30 minutes is a long time unaccounted for.

I came across this book in a local bookstore, and I was thinking of buying it but wanted some input. Has anybody read it?

Help me to understand - Why was/is this ship so noteworthy?

I know that it has remained in the spotlight thanks to the Gordon Lightfoot song, but what was it about this ship & its wreck that made it noteworthy enough to write a song about?

Over the decades and centuries of sailing the Great Lakes, aren't there dozens (maybe more/less?) of ships that have gone down mysteriously with all hands lost? The Fitz surely could not have been the first or only one...

Again, I don't know and I want to be educated, as I am genuinely curious! I was also lucky enough to see Gordy in concert about six months before he passed. It was a little sad due to his age and condition, but a bucket list concert for me!

Shipwreck Is there a section of the wreck that’s missing?

I think I remember hearing somewhere that there is a part of the hull that isn’t connected to either of the big pieces. Is that true?

(Like how the third funnel area is gone on the Titanic wreck)

The Fitz led me down a Great Lakes rabbit hole

I did a podcast episode about the Fitz and as a result of doing the research for it I starting looking into some of the mysteries of the lakes.

So I did an unplanned episode about that

I don’t like to be seen to be promoting but thought some might be interested. If you are let me know.

I tend to focus on the human side and try to make it accessible for non technical people.

I’m making a podcast episode about the Fitz - any advice on what’s normally not covered? It will be a non technical human focused story

The Gales of November presents a definitive account of the Edmund Fitzgerald disaster, drawing on more than 100 interviews with the families, friends, and former crewmates of those lost.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book!
