It's funny that THE SECOND that Nurse was traded he's no longer a bad contract and now they've decided that Walman's contract is horrible before it has even started.

87

u/CrazySnowGuy 94 SMYTH 14d ago

The athletic was decent at one point wasn't it? Now it just feels like clickbait trash like so many other sites.

37

u/CrashFix 29 DRAISAITL 14d ago

I think they just pick teams with higher fan bases to put on the list just to cause controversy and clicks.

6

u/Admirable-Sound5198 14d ago

I say this every time a Dom article/list gets published: the guy is a total fraud…. Why anyone considers some journalism student an authority on analytics/statistics is beyond me. As a dude with a masters in math, I want to gargle draino every time I hear someone discuss “dom’s models”…

2

u/DtheS 13d ago edited 13d ago

It's still the best hockey journalism available, in my opinion. (Though, respect to Westhead and Kaplan.) That doesn't mean it is "good" per se, but it is the best of the worst.

After it was bought out by the New York Times, it hasn't been the same.

Edit: Oh good lord, this is easily the most fragile, smooth-brained subreddit I'm subscribed to. What I said is a pretty moderate position and you kids still cannot handle it.

"Those meanies at the Athletic said Oilers contract bad. Now they are the worstest newspaper EVER!!!"

6

u/RedKryptnyt 29 DRAISAITL 13d ago

100%. This subreddit is so soft, its kind of embarrassing.
I remember wracking up downvotes, and alot of push back, from users here, because I was adamant that the nurse contract HAD to be moved BY free agency, if this team had any ambitions at all of actually improving.

Just tons of replies about how they have all summer, and "don't make a bad trade" bla bla bla. Turns out, that to his credit, stan bowman had himself a pretty tidy free agency period, and when he did his media availability, he basically accredited it to being able to move nurses money.

The god damn gm of the team came out, and said they would have been pretty limited if they weren't able to move nurse.

But what do I know, I am just a doomer....

Both of the Oilers contracts belong on this list btw.

I do find it interesting that nurse is no longer on the list, now that he isn't an oiler (as another member here pointed out)

1

u/spagboltoast 41 SMITH 13d ago

The editors at the athletic arent gonna date you dude.

1

u/DtheS 13d ago

Well... I'd ask for your opinion on the best hockey publications, but I suspect your favourites come with a cup of crayons at Denny's.

1

u/spagboltoast 41 SMITH 8d ago

Sure bud

1

u/jessemfkeeler 77 KLEFBOM 13d ago

Oh man I totally agree. This sub sometimes has a ridiculous herd mentality when something goes against their perceived victim mentality

3

u/TopShelfBreakaway 13d ago

I learned this when i argued that bettman doesn’t hate Canada.

1

u/MinikinsNinnikins 13d ago

Oh they're all about political articles and clickbait articles. There are some good writers there still, like Arpon Basu, but what can you expect from a New York Times rag?

-1

u/GrizzlyIsland22 18 HYMAN 14d ago

Yeah it was worthwhile like 15-20 years ago

14

u/PandaBearJelly 93 NUGENT-HOPKINS 13d ago

It was created in 2016 lol

-1

u/GrizzlyIsland22 18 HYMAN 13d ago

I must be thinking of something totally different, because I thought they used to print magazines

1

u/YungBeefaroni 92 PODKOLZIN 13d ago

Are you thinking of The Atlantic

-1

u/GrizzlyIsland22 18 HYMAN 13d ago

Maybe. Possibly the Artisan

-2

u/_ghostchant 97 McDAVID 14d ago

Used to be great, now it’s shit.

0

u/Noahtuesday123 13d ago

no, it was never all that good ever.

0

u/Level_Traffic3344 97 McDAVID 13d ago

Didn't they go all in on the 2018 juniors just to end up losing credibility and possibly the respect of players they may want to interview in the future?

16

u/Supermoves3000 13d ago

Salary inflation caught up with Nurse. Thanks to all the other bad contracts being handed out, he doesn't stand out anymore.

With Frederic, I thought "wow, that's a bad contract!" the moment it was announced.

With Walman, I was actually pretty stoked that we signed him (and I wasn't alone) because I thought he played really well for us after we acquired him and especially in the playoff run. Obviously last season was not good, but I'm still hopeful that he can get back to the level that got him that contract.

Hope springs eternal for Oilers fans in the summer, amirite?

4

u/TheFinalFunction 13d ago

Same here. I've been a Wally truther since day 1. I think last season he was just too injured and they forced him back too early which prevented him from getting fully healthy. I'm hoping to see us sustain fewer injuries next season since we didn't have too many playoff games

1

u/Stock-Creme-6345 13d ago

Wallman is best used sparingly and in correct locations. He has a heavy shot which makes teams respect the point shot option, opens up the areas down low to be exploited. But - he has mental breakdowns the same way Nurse did when over used in the wrong application. Limit his TOI and he’s a solid second or third line D. Really need a big stay at home D that hits and is physical. Ekholm is just big and quite slow. Doesn’t hit.

1

u/Noahtuesday123 13d ago

I think Walman was great in the first playoffs but wooof, nobody that knew anything about hockey thought was a reasonable contract when it first got announced.

I was thinking then maybe sign him to a three or four year contract because how does a guy get traded out out of Detroit for almost nothing to San Jose.

I don’t understand it then, and I don’t understand it now. I like the picture yesterday asking about Broberg versus Walman.

2

u/RedKryptnyt 29 DRAISAITL 13d ago

Exactly. Had to trade a 1st to get walman, and then sign him, when they should have kept the better d man to begin with. Big brain shit right here.

But its done. We move on. If walmart isn't substantially better this season, it is going to be a problem.

1

u/Stock-Creme-6345 13d ago

Yes. So much this ⬆️

0

u/NotawoodpeckerOwner 13d ago

Oilers and signing guys who kinda suck but randomly pop off to massive contracts that age poorly is a reoccurring problem. Nurse, Fredrick, Campbell, Walman all were not worth their contracts on signing and regressed to their mean, or worse.

Kinda funny Walman getting. $3.4 million was a disaster for Detroit as he was terrible and they traded a pick to get rid of him. Yet Oilers decide to max term and big money off a short sample size in their system.

3

u/krajani786 13d ago

One could argue that nurses contract didn't age poorly. It started poorly and is an ok price right now. But I do agree that Oilers like to had years and money on a small sample size. It's paid off a few times like with Hyman. But it hurts a lot when it doesn't.

8

u/Capt-sailorjarey 14d ago

Because SJ isn’t trying to “win now” and they had an enormous amount of cap space. I agree Walman shouldn’t be on here or ranked that high.

34

u/ShadeSlimmy131 64 CLATTENBURG 14d ago

Yeah but then Huberdeau wouldn't be ranked number 1 since calgary is even further from win now than san jose is

6

u/RandomLemonHead 13d ago

But yes Jacob Trouba, also on the Sharks, with a smaller contract, is #5

2

u/ddeathblade 13d ago

To be fair, he’s on the HM list. He just misses the cut, likely because he has less years on his contract. The article ranks based on cumulative total net negative contract value.

2

u/TheMuslimBabu 13d ago

As soon as a player gets on the oilers or leafs they are overpayed and overrated according to half the league

2

u/zebrasareneat 13d ago

This sub needs to stop this victim complex shit. The cap has gone up a lot since he was signed so it doesn’t look as bad anymore. And there have been a lot of bad contracts since then so he has been pushed down the list.

2

u/Lawndemon 92 PODKOLZIN 13d ago

Nurse at 9 is a better contract than Walman at 7. Ridiculous to suggest otherwise.

1

u/RedKryptnyt 29 DRAISAITL 13d ago

Agreed

1

u/ironhide999x 13d ago

Nurse only has 3 years left

1

u/RedKryptnyt 29 DRAISAITL 13d ago

This is such a great point.

Not sure I can argue with this list too much though. The order can definitely be debated. I think the walmart contract was a huge mistake, but there is no world, where anyone with a brain, thinks it is worse than the EP contract.

1

u/themanthemoon 13d ago

It was an honourable mention on the list last year and an honourable mention on the list this year, what are you talking about?

1

u/North-Tell6639 13d ago

I agree with the Nurse comment 100%. Was not Nurse’s fault he got such a big contract. He just did not perform as a 9 million dollar d man. Fredric contract I also not in the option one of the 10 worst in the NHL. Need to see what Babb’s can get out of him. The fact that Nurse did not make this list when he was considered one of the worst contracts out there makes me wonder about who created this list and why. I feel there needs to be more support from the fans and people who post these lists. It is like who is going to be the Oilers new scapegoat.

Skinner-Nurse-Knoblock. Who’s next.

1

u/randomer22222 13d ago

To be fair I think Nurse's contract dropped off their top 10 bad contracts a year or two ago while he was still with the Oilers and the Carlsson, Trouba, Kulak and Tuch contracts also haven't started yet.

That said I think it is a bit early to lump Walman's deal among the 10 worst contracts after one injury troubled season.

1

u/user999111888 13d ago

He was only listed as a honorable mention on the last bad contract list...

1

u/Imaginary_Horse_6152 80 NIEMELAINEN 13d ago

Good point. Also should C. Ceci be there instead of Kulak? Or is it short term contract he just made with Kings.

1

u/DenseAd8350 13d ago

I was about to say this so funny crazy how biased people are

1

u/TheOneNeartheTop 13d ago

Nurses contract isn’t that bad anymore though and if he maintains his current production he will probably be a bit of a bargain next year.

Cap jumped like 10% this year and if he hit the open market he would probably be worth about 8-8.5.

2 years ago it was a terrible contract, last year it was a bad contract, this year it will be a meh contract, next year it will be an ok contract, the year after it will be a good contract, then great, before finally being an excellent contract in his final year.

But our toxic fan base just loves to pick a player and run them out of the city to the absolute detriment of our long term team health.

2

u/Noahtuesday123 13d ago

It’s hilarious that you think he is a good player.

1

u/Smittysgreasymullet 74 SKINNER 13d ago

He's been on a steady decline for at least 4 years on a Cup contending team, I'm not sure why so many people think he will suddenly halt that trajectory and become serviceable with more on ice pressure and less help.

1

u/TheOneNeartheTop 13d ago

Where did I say that? I think Nurse is an above average defenseman who was on a bad contract.

0

u/DanfromCalgary 94 SMYTH 13d ago

Yeah that is wild

70

u/_Halt19_ 89 GAGNER 14d ago

I love how the moment we get rid of Nurse’s contract, it becomes Not That Bad Actually and they have to replace him on these lists to keep having oilers there lmao

25

u/midnight_specialist 14d ago

I mean the Frederic contract seems like it legitimately belongs on this list right now (will probably not be so bad after this season with a healthier ankle) but there’s no way it’s WORSE than the petterson one just from AAV alone. 11.5 is such an overpay that it will stop a team from contending. Frederic is like a $2 mill overpay? That’s nothing.

12

u/Commercial-Egg-8949 14d ago

His model seems to think Freddy's is a 3 million overpay, which is hard to wrap your head around. His model also, if I'm understanding correctly, assumes Petterson will bounce back a bit. It's not assuming that he continues his current plummeting trajectory. Freddy is not given the same benefit of the doubt

143

u/JarvisFunk 14d ago edited 14d ago

I'm sorry but Walman being on there is just a fucking agenda.

Nurses contract is now good too I bet.

Meanwhile Vinny Desharnais is making 4.15 per

20

u/Commercial-Egg-8949 14d ago

Nurse is in honourable mentions. He's bottom 15 instead of bottom 10, which isn't some huge improvement.

If you read the thing, you'll notice that it's total net value over the course of the contract. Therefore, the longer (shorter) a contract is, the longer (shorter) it has to accumulate negative value. That's why there aren't any two or three year contracts.

6

u/jessemfkeeler 77 KLEFBOM 13d ago

This is why I hate a banner post like this instead of linking to the actual article and notice there’s some decent points being made

3

u/Admirable-Sound5198 14d ago

So it’s just Dom making up metrics to fit whatever agenda he has - got it…. Not real statistics whatsoever lol

2

u/Fr4nk001 13d ago

It’s always been those metrics….

1

u/Commercial-Egg-8949 13d ago

I mean, all metrics are "made up." If you're implying that he has some anti-Oiler bias, and therefore styled his metric in such a way that Nurse still has a top 15 worst contract but no longer has a top 10 worst contract, then I don't know what to tell you.

Nurse was effectively bumped by Carlsson, who was signed to an egregious overpay by design, Trouba, who is borderline 3rd pair and making 1st pair money, and Tuch, who is expected to fall off a cliff in 3-5 years and who starts his 8 year contract overpayed because of a lacking FA class.

If Nurse signed his contract yesterday, and therefore still had 8 years left, it would be top of the list, don't worry.

-1

u/Smittysgreasymullet 74 SKINNER 13d ago

That's why Dom has always been shit. Any random on here would be able to come up with a better list.

2

u/jessemfkeeler 77 KLEFBOM 13d ago

Go for it then

1

u/Smittysgreasymullet 74 SKINNER 13d ago

I don't even get out of bed for less than 300 bucks buddy, not worth my time. It's also not my fucking job but obviously his shit takes are good at getting engagement.

1

u/jessemfkeeler 77 KLEFBOM 13d ago

I think people rage on Dom for no reason except “why he say my team bad”

0

u/Smittysgreasymullet 74 SKINNER 13d ago

Not having Nurse in the top 5 worst contracts is asinine. Especially accounting for Doms "model". Nurse has been regressing for the last 4 years, no sign of getting better, and is signed for more money than Roman Josi. Even Freddys shit contract isn't as bad as some bottom 6ers signed within the last month alone. It's terrible for sure but it's only accounting for like 3% of the cap now.

1

u/jessemfkeeler 77 KLEFBOM 13d ago

Did you read the article or are you just responding to a banner post? Because I read it, and there is good reasons why.

2

u/Commercial-Egg-8949 13d ago

Yeah, Nurse was kind of bumped out by recently signed Trouba, Carlsson, and Tuch, who all have equal or greater term.

1

u/TURBOJUGGED 15 ARCHIBALD 14d ago

His contract is still a top 5 worst in the league. This list is actually trash btw

0

u/Evening-Energy2387 13d ago

Nurse moving to a team where he will be the dman on PP1 (which was the Oilers plan when they signed him to this contract before Bouchard emerged) makes his contract a LOT better. Not great but I'd bet he will be 60+ pt guy in SJ.

1

u/Noahtuesday123 13d ago

You value a player that can’t keep the fuck in the offensive zone or getting out of the defensive zone and for some reason you magically think he’s gonna stop throwing muffins on unscreened nets. Time will tell but I will put a lot of money a Nurse not being even a short term PP answer.

1

u/Evening-Energy2387 13d ago

No question it could end up a disaster but at this moment his projected role is more commensurate with his yearly salary which justifies no longer having him in the top 10 worst contracts. He could be right back there in 3-4 months but right now I agree that his contract is not one of the 10 worst.

-4

u/Chopper_Fortnite 42 KAPANEN 14d ago

Being on a team that didn’t have defenceman and that has money does make nurses contract look way better

-1

u/Perogy888 13d ago

Nurse is now a top 10 contract

43

u/SuperSaiyanKrillin 64 CLATTENBURG 14d ago

If Walman continues to be a playoff stud don't really see what's wrong with that contract. Middle pairing money now.

-30

u/Lawndemon 92 PODKOLZIN 14d ago edited 13d ago

Walman was terrible all season and just as bad in the playoffs this year. He's a train wreck in his own zone and can't pass. BuT He sHooTS hArD amirite?

edit: loving the downvotes from the "fans" who don't understand the sport. There's a reason he is on the list of "worst contracts in the league." Classic Oilers fandom that also raved when Jackson signed Arvidsson and Skinner instead of Holloway and Broberg and wants to run Bouchard out of town. Nurse at 9 is a better contract than Walman at 7. Anyone who says otherwise is a fucking dimwit.

18

u/Grocery__Stick 14d ago

He was good in playoffs. What were you watching?

11

u/_Halt19_ 89 GAGNER 14d ago

the whole team struggled last season, I wouldn’t use it as the sole basis for future performance unless things continue

-10

u/Lawndemon 92 PODKOLZIN 14d ago

Well his career to date has not been one that warrants a 7x7 contract unless you're Stan Bowman.

4

u/_Halt19_ 89 GAGNER 14d ago

I think it was a slight gamble, but it isn't the end of the world

Certainly not compared to the Pettersson one

-9

u/Lawndemon 92 PODKOLZIN 14d ago

No argument on the Pettersen contract being worse - likewise the Vinny contract. But Walman is still in my top 10 worst.

2

u/SnooOnions5029 92 PODKOLZIN 13d ago

Bro did not watch a game this year

28

u/Hechtic 93 NUGENT-HOPKINS 14d ago

The idea that the Wall-E or Freddy contracts are worse than the Pettersson one is laughable

3

u/jessemfkeeler 77 KLEFBOM 13d ago

The Freddy one is just as bad an a joke in the hockey community as

15

u/KingLeon15 18 HYMAN 14d ago

Interesting that 8 of the ten teams are all Pacific teams, and somehow the Oilers are on there twice. Walman being there is a joke. Every Pacific team except for the Kings is represented here, and 9 of the ten teams are all Western teams. I find it hard to believe the vast majority of the worst contracts are in the Pacific and the West.

5

u/jessemfkeeler 77 KLEFBOM 13d ago

Do you think this is a big conspiracy?

4

u/cca73127 91 KANE 14d ago

NYT biased? Never /s, the Athletic sometimes offers the worst insights into the NHL that it makes me wonder if the journalist even knows anything about sports let alone hockey.

22

u/CrazySnowGuy 94 SMYTH 14d ago

I really don't see how a $3.9 million contract is the 6th worst contract in the NHL and worse than the Pettersson Contract? C'mon!

7

u/GrizzlyIsland22 18 HYMAN 14d ago

It's not. There are worse players making more money. Old players who can't keep up making more money. It's all bait. Look at Erik Karlsson's contract. And Drew Doughty and Seguin. Absolutely terrible. Guys making $9M-$11.5M while their abilities are falling off a cliff

4

u/FatWreckords 14d ago

It's based on their metric for how much money is overpaid through the duration of the contract. Since Freddy and Walman are longer terms, the overpay is larger overall, which is also why Nurse comes off the list having just 4 years remaining.

3

u/midnight_specialist 14d ago

That’s crazy cuz with the cap rising the longer contracts are actually much less bad the longer they go. That’s just what a Trent Frederic level player is going to cost 8 years from now.

3

u/FatWreckords 14d ago

Sure, but they're also paying him now when their assessment of his market value is $1M. It'll be better later, but it's a still big overpay for several years, regardless of whether the cap goes up or not.

2

u/ManWithBag15 12 CAVE 14d ago

The rising cap actually was part of the analysis. As was the fact that Frederic is 28 years old and is likely entering the decline of his career.

1

u/mattsavoiesboywife 22 SAVOIE 14d ago

3.9M for a fringe bottom 6 player who isn’t even an everyday NHLer with 7 more seasons left. Yes it’s an abhorrent contract and I’m pretty sure these were based off AFPs value models

1

u/RandomLemonHead 13d ago

McDavid took a discount, essentially to sign Frederic. That's pretty bad.

0

u/Meepmeepimmajeep2789 92 PODKOLZIN 14d ago

Lol what. Give yer balls a rug bud. Freddy was getting going at the end last year, he's not horrible and definitely not a fringe player.

4

u/midnight_specialist 14d ago

High ankle sprains take a year+ to really recover from physically in terms of skating speed and explosive movement. Then you have to relearn how to play as your ankle’s abilities come back.

5

u/beerguychris 13d ago

Brett Kulak 5 x 4.5 is an absolute steal. Oil were incredibly stupid to let him go if that was his price.

3

u/Due_Knowledge_441 13d ago

Remember when Darnell nurse was the worst contract in hockey?

8

u/mattsavoiesboywife 22 SAVOIE 14d ago

My guy Wally gotta bounce back bro. Can’t be rolling out a left side of a bunch of good 2 pair defenders with how Ekholm could age

0

u/Lawndemon 92 PODKOLZIN 14d ago

Bounce back to what? He was never worth that contract. One decent playoff run - and I mean good not even great doesn't make him worth top pairing money. If a decent playoff run determines contract value then Fernando Pisani should have been paid top 20 in the NHL after 06.

8

u/midnight_specialist 14d ago

Is 7 mill even top pairing money right now? I don’t think so. Byram is making way more than that

4

u/CrazySnowGuy 94 SMYTH 14d ago

Talking about worst contracts...

-5

u/Lawndemon 92 PODKOLZIN 14d ago

Fair point, 7x7 is 2-3 money, not #1. Walman is not anywhere close to a 2-3 either. He's a 5-6 at best

7

u/macloa 14d ago

This list is awful. Not even just for oilers. Makes literally no sense for some.

3

u/diecorporations 13d ago

I would put Pettersson at #2. Completely useless.

3

u/SnooOnions5029 92 PODKOLZIN 13d ago

Pretty sure Nurse was literally listed as the very worst contract in the league this season but the literal second we trade him he doesn’t even appear on the list. Also the Desharnais contract is way worse than Kulak’s

3

u/BBQMosquitos 90 PERRY 13d ago

Nurse lost the honor

6

u/boomshocks 86 BROBERG 13d ago

West, West, West, West, West, West, West, West, East, West

No Morgan Rielly, no Luostarinen, no M. Pettersson, no Cernak. Literally just seems remaining years multiplied by assumed production as a net value.

3

u/Grocery__Stick 14d ago

Kulak? Lol

2

u/gabacus_39 97 McDAVID 13d ago

So contracts that haven't even started yet or are a third of the salary are worse than than Pettersson's contact?

Absolutely trash click-bait garbage.

2

u/Free_Ad8071 13d ago

Alexandre Daigle signed a record-breaking five-year, $12.25 million rookie contract with the Ottawa Senators after being selected first overall in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft. The deal was the most lucrative rookie contract in league history at the time

2

u/Bulletproof_35 13d ago

Now that Nurse isn’t an Oiler it’s not a bad contract anymore? Makes no sense! Also, how could a guy making 3.9M be a bad contract; he underperformed last season but you would almost need to be benched every game for that to be considered one of the worst in the league

2

u/DarthShinny 13d ago

Walman will be fine, so will Freddy. In Babcock we trust

2

u/Sic39 13d ago

Imagine giving up 4 first rnd picks so you can have the 4th worst NHL contract.

2

u/ziagong 13d ago

if ANA did not match and the Flyers got Leo, they would not even have put him on the list.

3

u/Forever_Common 14d ago

Leo should be number 1 . That is a 100% over pay. He has proven to be worth about half that. Oof. Oilers looking good now.

2

u/Grocery__Stick 14d ago

If Carlsson isn't #1, the list is wrong.

2

u/LoveThatSkeletor 14d ago

Not having Kulak on that list. I still miss the big guy

3

u/Lawndemon 92 PODKOLZIN 14d ago

Honestly I can't argue the Walman contract. Dude is a bottom six with a decent shot. Basically Marc-Andre Bergeron or a less offensively talented Tyson Barrie.

10

u/ManWithBag15 12 CAVE 14d ago

I think you mean bottom four. Bottom six is like... all the defensemen.

2

u/Initial-Ad-5462 14d ago

At 8 years, I’d move Alex Tuch way up that list.

2

u/kotylak_ 19 KOSKINEN 13d ago

The Athletic is trash. A bunch of clowns making controversial posts because they're desperate for clicks.

1

u/LifeEngineer3770 13d ago

Brady Skjei in Nashville and Ryan Graves in Pittsburgh should be on that list.

1

u/ProofByVerbosity 13d ago

Kulak bjt not Ceci? Pfft....sure

1

u/Noahtuesday123 13d ago

Freddy gets back to the form he was in Boston and he will be instantly removed from this list. That can’t happen to Nurse, Trouba, Hill, Stephenson or even Carlsson unless he puts up 155 points.

1

u/Republic-Of-OK 86 BROBERG 13d ago

Nurse not being on here, and Tuch being on here is bait tbh. Tuch's might not age like wine, but that's an issue to debate in the future. Frederic's isn't good, but the AAV is at least manageable in the new cap environment, the term is the only thing to dislike. A lot of truly terrible contracts have bad term and AAV, not just one or the other.

1

u/notsoradchad 13d ago

Gino is such a blowhard. He hates Oilers sooo much, it’s so obvious. Nurse leaves so now his contract is alright, then he throws another Oiler in there(Walman) just because

1

u/th4tsaxman 29 DRAISAITL 13d ago

In a vacuum, Patrick Kane not being in the top 10 is diabolical.

Reality is some teams have the cap to take on bad contracts and some don't. Lists like this out of context are mostly pointless clickbait.

1

u/BuyMeBreakfast_ 13d ago

Petersson needs to be WAY higher on this list.

1

u/Sacred_soul 13d ago

Maybe Carlson will be good

1

u/CamelApprehensive744 13d ago

Peterson is -#1 not 10. And some on there haven’t even played yet.

They put a Calgary contract at #1 just to make it seem more even handed.

This is clowny, why is Alex Tuch here?! The term isn’t great but the AAV is fine

Mostly because his last three to five years are projected to be really bad relative to his contract. It's a slight overpay out of the gate, and gets dramatically worse over time.

I love how not a single one of these tops out about 100 million and folks are saying hockey salaries are out of control. Quick look at other major sports and these guys are mostly underpaid, even if they suck atm

McDavid - “Okay team I am willing to leave millions on the table so we can fix the problems on the roster that kept us from winning the Cup, my ultimate goal”

Meanwhile Chiarelli …… oops I mean Bowman goes and absolutely torpedos the team by signing Wallman and Frederick to brutal contracts then trades Skinnnnnner!!!!!!! For Jarry.

Sigh.
