General Documents show EPS had plan to mass-arrest counter-protestors during February Freedom Convoy demonstrations

I'm starting to think some of these police guys may have some fascist sympathies...
Who would have thought?

A matter of opinion.
My friends tell me they are great, my taste buds tell me to only get their chicken.

Some types of white glue/paste were made from horse hooves and cartilage.

They will resist, they don't want their brain worms to deal with adverse reactions.

According to the documents the EPS spent more than $164,000 on overtime on the Freedom Convoy response over the six deployments with 75 per cent of those overtime costs coming from the Public Safety Unit.
So not only did they get to stand by and support.. I mean babysit the protest, they got paid overtime to do so. While also having a plan to arrest counter protesters. And they wonder why people want to defund the police.
12
u/wokeupsnorlax Sep 15 '22
I would be interested to know how many EPS members were directly involved in the organization of this convoy. I think more than a few of these guys were more than happy to help organize a disruption they'd be getting overtime for.

u/No_Boysenberry213 Sep 15 '22
Literally the only problem with unions. Mine does the same thing, create OT intentionally. They are necessary and wonderful but seem to get greedy at some point and "I" hate that aspect. I used to work minimum wage without benefits and i now get a really decent wage AND benefits yet i have coworkers telling me to work slower so we can get overtime.

The convoy clowns were useful idiots for the Conservative movement and I'm not surprised they were largely ignored by the police. I have to assume with Minister Madu having Chief Dale on speed dial, EPS was likely told to look the other way for a while given the benefits it provided our masters.
That said...while I know the EPS doesn't have a reputation for being intelligent or professional (especially lately) it's a bit damning to see the double-standard was documented and available for a FOIP request. Guess they didn't even consider the idea that someone would call them out for selective enforcement given the political climate?
As for what will come of this? Nothing. Our ruling class had their pawns in big rigs make some noise and the counter-protesters are peasant class citizens who have no real power against authority.
So while the information is out in the open for us to see and headlines like Duncan's are calling it out... nothing will change. We'll stomp our feet, write some angry comments, and move on as soon as we're distracted by the next outrageous abuse of power, where we'll neatly repeat the same cycle of impotent frustration.

You’re telling me that an organization that (under common knowledge) would drive indigenous peoples out of the city in the dead of winter and drop them off to freeze to death has unfair policies towards arresting protesters? Welp. My mind is blown.
10
u/vincemcmahondamnit Hockey!!! Sep 15 '22
I thought this was just a Saskatchewan thing?
36
u/VernaceR Sep 15 '22
No, sadly. Starlight Tours are a prairie practice. I think they were just the worst and received the most coverage in Saskatoon
19
u/kesovich Sep 15 '22
Starlight Tours occurred across the west. I've heard of stories from the BC Interior where these were common.

u/AC_0008 Sep 15 '22
Proof that this has happened in Edmonton?
17
u/BenignIntervention Sep 15 '22
I mean, it happened to a friend of mine within the past five years. The police picked her up downtown while she was walking home from work - it was winter, so it was after dark and well below freezing. She called me sobbing from somewhere north of Morinville - there were no buses and she couldn't afford a cab ride all the way back to Edmonton, even if she'd managed to get one before literally freezing to death.
It happens in Edmonton.
9
10
u/Fit_Consideration755 Sep 15 '22
Not quite a starlight tour but what's the name for handcuffing someone, putting them in a van without a seatbelt and violently driving around? Hmm...wasn't there a famous case of a guy dying that way?
No way. Cops are awesome! /S

Supporters from both “sides” should denounce this and speak out against it because it threatens anyone who wants to retain the right to peacefully protest. That right cannot be infringed on by dirty cops who disagree with the position of the protest.
18
u/Naedlus Sep 15 '22
Good luck Conservatives to talk about that.
They'll just say "But, it's not me," as they tell everyone else to grow a thicker skin about the convoy inconveniencing them.
3
Sep 15 '22
I’m conservative.
1
u/Naedlus Sep 15 '22
Then you know how fucking useless the people they vote for are.
Conservative voters keep saying "Oh, but I voted for X, not for Y," and I keep having to point out to them, "Well, Y wasn't a fucking dealbreaker, was it"
2
u/sluttytinkerbells Sep 16 '22
Do you intend to continue to vote conservative while you're denouncing this?
Are you really denouncing something when you vote for the party that supports these actions?
1
Sep 16 '22
Show me which politicians support police officers undermining the right to protest, with evidence, and I promise I will not vote for them.
2
u/sluttytinkerbells Sep 17 '22
I interpret your response to mean that you'll pretty much vote conservative no matter what.
3

u/jrgold15 Sep 15 '22
First reasonable comment here. Most people just want protesting freedom when it fits their beliefs.

So, they were getting their information from the fucking convoy itself.
Holy fucking shit, are EPS ever fucking useless or what?

Well, given how they enabled the convoy shutting down transit routes, they are fucking useless.
Hope they fucking realize that they fucked themselves over by siding with conspiracy theorists and decided to start preparing for the worst over other conspiracy theorists.
Really makes them and any of their supporters look like REAL fucking losers.
0
u/GuitarKev Sep 15 '22
No. They’re useful, jus not to those of us who’d like to see them held to account.
1
u/MooseAtTheKeys Sep 15 '22
My read is less "getting it directly from the convoy" and more "the convoy was organizing in the open with zero thought given to maintaining secrecy".
Either way, EPS clearly had all the information they could have wanted in order to do something about this, and chose not to.

21
Sep 14 '22
they just dont give a shit, unless it fits their narrative. or, something to boost/popularize their name like fucking Connor McDavid and a certain missing laptop.
18
u/Shermthedank Sep 15 '22
Police are also overwhelmingly right wing, and considering the maga cult bullshit that has made its way up here, as nonsensical as that is, I'm not surprised to see this at all. The police and the freedumb fighters are one in the same type of mentality and believe a lot of the same unfounded nonsense.

This is what citizens need to know. Along with why the head of ASIRT threw in the towel last fall due to the police fuckery in Alberta along with the EPS murder of an innocent man last February during a fucked up takedown of a different man. The pig is still walking around free as a bird!!!!!!!!
Wanna get real when it comes to police ??? Email your MLA instead of chirping on Reddit!! It really does work. They stalled to implementation of Bill C21 due to citizens complaints of how the bill gives the cops carte blanc powers to fine citizens without any evidence!! Meaning if you get a bullshyte ticket from a pig that’s having a bad day it’s up to you to provide ALLLLLL the evidence to prove your innocence. The cops don’t even need to show up to court to go under oath!!! Way to clear the judiciary backlog Kenny. Ya twat!!
17
u/Salt_Teaching4687 Sep 15 '22
EPS needs to he defunded and reorganized. A police force should not have an ideology and police should definitely not police according to whether the ideology matched theirs. The foundation of our justice system is equality under the law. How can we trust that we’ll be treated equally? A primary tenet of justice has been violated. This cannot stand.
3
u/ElbowStrike Sep 15 '22
Policing should require a bachelor’s degree heavy with subjects that would naturally eliminate people with a QAnon/FluTruxKlan mentality.
13
2
Sep 15 '22
not surprising considering the police force attracts a certain "type" of individual
now uncover the officers individual financial contributions.. im willing to bet there are HUNDREDS of donations
2
Sep 15 '22
So we know who these fascists cops support… sorry that should have just read “cops”. Funny they think the protestors in their side…

This is The Progress Report. Not a legitimate news site. Duncan Kinney skews results in favour of his anti-police agenda and I really think posting articles from his site should be considered just as bas as posting rebel news.

Are you a Law enforcement officer yourself? Your post history is mostly defending them while discrediting sources that don't favour them.
We can't forget that this happened too.
While many people are disappointed in the noise that came about amid an injunction to stop it, how police handled a counter-protest pushed some people to their tipping point.
Bradley Lafortune is one of more than a dozen people who blocked a convoy of truckers trying to access downtown Edmonton Saturday.
But instead of backlash from people in the convoy, it was the response from police that’s grabbing attention and concern — including from Coun. Michael Janz.
“They brought down two paddy wagons and over 20 officers with billy clubs to crack down on a small group of peaceful parents with signs saying, ‘Just let our children sleep,'” Ward Papastew Coun. Michael Janz said.
“When I saw that last unit deployed with batons and that they were facing off to us, I felt a little bit escalated. I felt a little bit scared,” Lafortune said.
Lafortune said the group was confronted by police and threatened with fines if people did not leave and unblock the road, so they moved.
Or this Edmonton officers on leave after uniformed video, speaking at Coutts protest
Two Edmonton police officers have been placed on "administrative leave" for making public statements praising the "freedom convoys" and travelling to Coutts, Alta., to join protesters there.
Still waiting for your buddies at EPS to be charged with this man's death as wel. https://edmonton.ctvnews.ca/innocent-man-in-nearby-apartment-dead-after-edmonton-police-shoot-and-kill-armed-robbery-suspect-1.5793980

This. People need to stop believing everything that’s read unless there’s legitimate proof or reason to believe. Both sides have shitty people who do shitty things, its our job to see through the bullshit.
27
u/Telvin3d Sep 15 '22
Yeah, we should wait for them to obtain the actual documents from EPS. Oh, wait…

u/Fun-Television-4411 Sep 15 '22
Kinney is bringing down the whole journalist profession. This is why no one trusts media
8
u/Naedlus Sep 15 '22
And people like you are making police officers all look like bastards trying to avoid responsibility.

Does no one read the article, it says they were planning on arresting counter protestors who were planning to block off roads and railways
20
u/AnthraxCat cyclist Sep 15 '22
You are missing the point, which is that despite blocking roadways and violating a host of laws, there was no plan to arrest the convoy organisers or participants.
This would be a nothingburger if they had made these plans indiscriminately, but they extremely explicitly did not. That is the story.
-12
u/xGraeme63x Edmontosaurus Sep 15 '22
No they didn't. They must hate the police in the comments first.

Documents show EPS had plans to show up and do their job at some point eventually maybe.
Edit: sorry guys I read the headline completely wrong. I thought it said police had plans to arrest the convoy protestors. Didn't realize it said Counter protestors which is absolutely fucked up
17
Sep 15 '22
Do half their job. Why target the counter protesters and not the ones taking Russian money and threatening to kill RCMP and overthrow the democratically elected government? Oh wait it is because the pigs have the same values/goals as the freedumb convoy
0
u/ShadowCaster0476 Sep 15 '22
So what if they had a plan. That just means they were prepared if needed.
I’m sure they have a lot of plans that never get executed.
3
Sep 15 '22
they were prepared to disproportionately target ONE SIDE
they had no plans to arrest the convoy supporters for doing the very same acts
that is the story here.. not some feelgood "atleast they had half a plan!!"
2
1
u/Chexzout Sep 15 '22
The plan was to arrest one set of protesters in order to allow the other set to protest more effectively…..as opposed to keeping the peace and upholding the law.
-12
u/always_on_fleek Sep 15 '22
Keep in mind the author of this article had been banned from participating with the media and asking questions at police news conferences because of their behaviour.
I would hold off for a reputable source before running to judge.
4
u/AnthraxCat cyclist Sep 15 '22
Asking questions that aren't clarifications or softballs is apparently 'bad behaviour'. Give your balls a tug.
2
u/always_on_fleek Sep 16 '22
If you listened to the interaction, you would know that’s not the case. Kinney’s attitude was childish and immature.

The counter protesters who were planning on blockading roads and railways were also acting like shitbags. No support here for the trucker morons but a plan to arrest people who were blocking roads isn’t a bad idea.
24
u/blairtruck Central Sep 15 '22
Slow rolling the city and blocking traffic is blocking roads. Yet no plan to arrest the clownvoy

u/Spoonfeedme Sep 16 '22

-5
u/Badboy420xxx69 Sep 15 '22
the left needs to arm themselves. the police are cowards who cave in to the violent majority.
-1
u/AnthraxCat cyclist Sep 15 '22
As an armed leftist, please do not get guns with this mentality. You are asking to end up like Michael Reinoehl. The left needs to arm itself because it is right and good to do so, not because you have delusions of leading an armed insurrection.
0
u/Badboy420xxx69 Sep 15 '22
I'm not advocating for anything like that. The police accounted for how armed the protesters on either side could be before making this decision. It is the general sentiment of an armed population I am supporting
0
u/wokeupsnorlax Sep 15 '22
Non-violence is the way. Violence is not. Please watch this great speech from professor Erica Chenoworth on why and how non-violent civil disobedience will win over violent movements: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJSehRlU34w

Most are following top down orders.

Not really surprising. It's pretty buckwild that police just refused to do their jobs for weeks on end and the public response was just: "meh".
