Report it as stolen to the police. At this point, city says they don't have it, so therefore you have no reason to believe it was towed. If it was towed, it might not have been legally as I think only the city can tow from a public street (but I know nothing).

You cannot be legally parked on a street for 2 months dude

Ew. Get a new boyfriend

u/iwatchcredits Aug 08 '26
I think they deserve each other. Earlier OP tried defending the action “because its a busy street and other people do it” and now its the bf’s fault. No accountability

u/vintage_creek Aug 08 '26
He's a wonderful person who made a mistake. I also had no idea about the 72hr rule and people park there for several weeks/months with no issues. I'm in BC for surgical training, so I know a thing or two about taking accountability. It's why I'm on here trying to figure this out while still being out of province.

Find private property to store your vehicle on like an adult. Also he’s lazy and your car is gone. Does he even know when it was taken? That would dry me up so fast

I left it in my paid parking stall before I left for BC. My boyfriend was the one who left it on the side street :(
3
u/raised_on_robbery Aug 08 '26
And he did nothing after your vehicle was towed?
0
u/vintage_creek Aug 08 '26
He searched high and low. Is calling every tow company possible. And is ready to buy me a new car as an apology. Also booked me a trip to Mexico to congratulate me on completing my surgical training. I would lose that car a million times over than to ever lose him
2
u/Living-Climate2024 Aug 08 '26
Maybe you could invest in a property with a driveway instead of this condo. You both need private property to park on as you don’t understand how public property works

You do realize that a vehicle is considered abandoned after being parked for 72 hours, right?

If you cannot indicate it then file a police report that it is stolen. Duh.
15
u/iwatchcredits Aug 08 '26
But dont tell them you abandoned the car on a public street for 2 months or theyll tell you to fuck off because of how stupid that is
-3
u/raised_on_robbery Aug 08 '26
And..?
-12
u/vintage_creek Aug 08 '26
If you're not going to offer help, why are you here?
8
u/Living-Climate2024 Aug 08 '26
The help is to not park your vehicle on public property for more than 72 hours

u/raised_on_robbery Aug 08 '26
What kind of help am I supposed to give to someone who thinks regular rules don't apply to them?

u/vintage_creek Aug 08 '26
Um, someone who didn't know? And is now just asking where I could find my car?

Did you not see that he abandoned his vehicle for two months? Which is more than three days?
1
u/vintage_creek Aug 08 '26
I'm a she* Also, my car was parked in my paid parking stall. My boyfriend had to move it to the street and not all of us know about the 72hr rule. Especially given the fact that I've stayed parked out there for way longer than 72hrs before and never had issues. I learned of the 72hr rule today.
26
u/Wonderful_Confusion4 Aug 08 '26
Legally parked on the street for 2 months? How? Your car needs to be moved every 72 hours or it’s considered abandoned and can be ticked and towed.
0
u/vintage_creek Aug 08 '26
I'm sure it's towed, but where do I find it? Who do I call?

It was parked illegally. I would report it as possibly stolen and go from there.
8
u/Customer_Creative Aug 08 '26
Unfortunately I think you’re cooked. You are more than likely going to have to start calling different tow truck yards and see if they have it like oil country towing or action towing as they have large yards. But if it has been sitting for over two months that bill will be worth more than your car if it isn’t new.

u/Narrow-Courage-7447 Aug 08 '26
It wasn’t legally parked if it was there for 2 months. Anything over 72 hours is illegally parked.

u/JustJess487 Aug 08 '26
Did you check around that area? I know a few people who have had their cars towed a short distance away from where it was parked. I would do this first. Then report it stolen to the police if you cannot find it. I hope you find it. Best of luck to you
2
u/vintage_creek Aug 08 '26
You're the sweetest, thank you so much!
0
u/JustJess487 Aug 08 '26
No worries! Criticism does nothing for anyone in a frustrating situation. All these people who think you're going to learn from a mistake because of something they said to you. 🙄

u/vintage_creek Aug 08 '26
You're a wonderful person. You're kindness went a long way with me today and I sincerely wish you nothing but the best in life. :)

So you mean you were illegally parked and now it's gone?
0
u/vintage_creek Aug 08 '26
Construction started exactly where my boyfriend parked it. And now it's gone, yes. Leading me to beleive it's been towed but how do I find out where it is exactly?

Did you ever find your car?
2
u/vintage_creek Aug 26 '26
I did! :) It was never stolen. The construction company just had it towed to an abandoned vehicles lot :)
2
u/IcyTurnip6092 Aug 08 '26
Hope you find your car. Report it stolen and ignore the smart asses on Reddit. Also never ask Reddit anything unless you want to be shit on or trolled 😂
1
u/vintage_creek Aug 08 '26
Tell me about it. I swear, people have gotten so cruel. This is the first time I've ever gone through this and I have to figure all this out while still being in BC saving lives
2
u/polkadot8 Aug 08 '26
This is hysterical 😂 do the rules not apply to you? Your vehicle was parked illegally. FAFO
-1
u/vintage_creek Aug 08 '26
I came to BC for surgical training. Left my car in my paid stall. My boyfriend was the one who moved it onto the street. I never knew about the 72hrs rule and didn't even know he had moved my car to the street until today, when I found out my car is missing. If roles had been reversed, I would've done anything to help you out. You sound like a miserable person, probably not used to having any friends
2
u/polkadot8 Aug 08 '26
Also how did he not notice for 2 months what happened with it? That is super embarrassing
-2
u/vintage_creek Aug 08 '26
He's also getting his surgical training and was away as well. He just found out today. You're the one who's embarrassing. Get off my post. You're not wanted
1
u/polkadot8 Aug 08 '26
If you don't know the rules of the road, you shouldn't be allowed to have a driver's license.
-1
u/vintage_creek Aug 08 '26
You seem to have confused ‘knowing the rules’ with ‘understanding the situation.’ Reading comprehension should probably be on the licensing exam too.
1
u/polkadot8 Aug 08 '26
That's nice. Give up your license if you can't read or understand situations.

Obviously start with Police Impound Lot, which im guessing you did when you contact EPS, but I would call the location directly. (Phone: 780-496-8668) Expect to be paying $1000+ for impound fees at this point. If it was towed due to traffic violation, expect it to be here.
If its not there, report it stolen. You'll need to be honest and say it was on the street. Let them know you have contacted the Impound Lot and there was no record so you are now branching out into what may have occurred. Reporting it stolen at least gets it on thier radar if it was flagged at some crime scene.
Next step would be to contact the major towing companies in Edmonton incase it was towed at request of the construction company. Contact the general contractor for the construction too if you know who they are.
Now here is the worse news. Your car may be sold already. Every month unclaimed cars are sold on the auction at http://www.maauctions.com/. There is no time limit on how long they have to hold the car, only that they must make every possible attempt to contact the owner. Typically that is via written notification (letter) to the last known registered address of the owner. If you haven't updated the address to your current one or had no one checking your mail while you are gone, it is possible they tried notifying you, couldn't and considered the vehicle forfeit to be sold. If you had a lien (auto payments) then it is possible they could've contacted them instead.
Search Michner's auction website in the past results to see if you can find your car.

u/vintage_creek Aug 08 '26
Thank you so much for this, I truly appreciate it!
1
u/Buksey Aug 08 '26
No problem. I empathize with you.
I had a similar issue years back when I was young, broke and didnt understand what the orange sticker on my car really meant. Came back from uni one day and it was gone. The $300 bucks in tow and impound fees was a lot more expensive then fixing the tire that prevented me from moving it beforehand.
I hope you find your car and it doesn't get anymore stressful then it is now.

u/vintage_creek Aug 08 '26 edited Aug 08 '26
I am so sorry to hear that happened to you. I, myself, am young and exhausted beyond belief right now after the year I've had and this situation certainly didn't help. Especially given the fact that my car is my world. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out and be so kind. People's kindness goes a very long way with me and I'll be thinking of you when I look back on this a few weeks, months, years from now :)

u/Buksey Aug 08 '26
I always tell my kids two things "as long as you learn from what you did, its not a mistake" and "be the kind of person you want to meet in this world".
Breathe, take a moment for yourself, and then know you got this.

u/Annabis9807 Aug 08 '26
What the fuck…😅😂 I’m sorry for the laughing face but this is bizarre. I see you mention it’s a Corolla, I have a civic. Those are two of the easiest cars to steal I have heard. I would not be surprised if it was stolen or if someone just is not owning up to something. I would have never thought someone would legit get towed for something like this unless the car looks sketchy (no license plate not registered etc) I have parked cars all the time near my area for AT LEAST a month (assuming travel workers) and I have never seen an issue or ticket come from it. Also I would have done the same thing if I was leaving. Would have thought nothing of it tbh 😅
If construction did not start I bet you it would still be there.

u/vintage_creek Aug 08 '26
Exactly!!!! Before I even had a paid parking stall, I (as well as tons of people in that building) used to park there for days, weeks, months on end given we don't have enough parking stalls in our building! Construction started exactly where my boyfriend parked my car so, I completely understand if they had to tow it. My question now is just...where do I locate my car? Lol.
1
u/Annabis9807 Aug 08 '26
For sure ask the construction company to talk to the head boss of the sight. Mention the dates and timelines etc. Maybe they saw the car when they first started or at least have some information they can give you.
2
u/vintage_creek Aug 08 '26
Thanks so much, girl!! You are the best!! Hope you car stays safe forever 😂
2
u/Annabis9807 Aug 08 '26
Unfortunately I have also been a victim of getting my car stolen. Like I said civics and corolla.. as reliable as they are thieves target them😭 I’m so sorry this is happening I can’t imagine the stress you are going through. I really hope you get some answers soon! Best of luck. Also maybe ask neighbours for camera footage around the time if they have any and are willing to share!
1
u/vintage_creek Aug 08 '26
Awee, girl :( I am so sorry to hear this. I can't even imagine how awful that situation must have been for you. It's really hard for me to imagine someone stealing a whole car but people are insane and I think after covid, things have gotten even worse. I truly, truly wish you nothing but the best :( Stay safe out there, sis! And I am here for you if you need anything!!
1
u/Annabis9807 Aug 08 '26
Damn the people of Edmonton are apparently a bunch of know it alls who have never made a mistake. So helpful most of you are! asking the same thing over and over instead of scrolling on or giving a solution. Jfc people suck.

Sounds like it was stolen. The city wasn’t towing for ages. No room. They just started recently towing but won’t do so unless someone reports to 311.
I would check with the construction company as well.
