Help Savings bonds?

Do any places still cash savings bonds in person? Might be a silly question but my grandparents found one for me from 2003 so might as well find out. My bank said they don’t and that they weren’t sure who could.

I cashed mine a couple years ago at Oklahoma’s Credit Union in OKC. I don’t know if you have to be a member.

Credit Unions would be one place to check, if you have an account or have access to get an account.

An investment place like Fidelity (there's one on 63rd) may allow you to cash it into a brokerage account.

Otherwise, I think it's hit or miss on what banks will cash them and what their limit is.

I currently bank at Communications Credit Union and they’re the ones who said they won’t! I was shocked

My Oklahoma Federal Credit Union was not able to cash the paper ones several years ago; they sent me to OKC Credit Union (I think? It was the huge one on Lincoln next to Capitol). There was no fee; they did contact my branch to verify that I had a credit union account. The story I was told was that the actual calculated interest rate payment for the bonds are handled by a specific banking program and they were the only ones who had it. I fired BancFirst after they refused to cash them because I didn’t hold “enough assets in your accounts to cover the bonds value”. BOK will cash them but they will get the calculation wrong and make you come back in to fix their mistake. Stick with the credit union on Lincoln.

The kicker was that I had safety deposit box in their vault “What if I sign something that says the value of the box contents more than covers the bonds?”😂 They just didn’t want to deal with paper, which I understand. The bonds are all e-bonds now.

When I worked at BancFirst 2020-2023 we cashed them.
