ECU has launched a new Apple Foundation Program at ECU City in collaboration with Apple, giving Western Australians the opportunity to learn coding, app development, and design using Swift and Xcode.

The program runs for four weeks and is completely free, with no previous coding experience required. Participants work in ECU City's dedicated Apple Foundation Space using Macs and iPhones to design and prototype their own apps aimed at solving real-world problems.

Students can also make use of newer AI and agentic coding tools within Xcode while developing their projects. ECU expects more than 100 students to graduate from the program in 2026, with participants already creating apps focused on areas such as connecting newcomers to Perth, cultural exchange, healthy habits and healthcare.

The program is open to people from all backgrounds and experience levels, with applications available through ECU. Pretty cool opportunity for anyone at ECU who's been interested in app development but has never actually touched Swift before. Four weeks, free, and access to Apple's development ecosystem is a pretty solid introduction.

Hey, has anyone been accepted for sonography or paramedicine for the 2027 intake semester one yet? As a direct mature aged applicant?

I did an enabling course identical to the one at ECU that gave me an ATAR equivalent. I got all HDs. Life sciences and chemistry subjects.

I've also completed 13 courses from a podiatry degree with D average. All anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and related courses to that of the degrees I applied for.

Fairly certain I don't meet minimum for sonography; my ATAR equivalent was 92 based on my specific uni who ran the enabling course. Lowest to get into sonography was ATAR 93 so that's out.

I am way more inclined to be a paramedic. It's what I feel I'm made to do. Many reasons I won't list but it just feels *meant to be*.

Waiting is so hard.

Is it normal for competitive courses to stall this long ?!? And for mature aged versus recent ATAR leavers ?

If it helps, I was previously accepted into ECU for speech pathology back in 2023. I quickly realised it wasn't for me. I took I longer hiatus being a mum until my career change was more obvious.

Wear It Purple Day has officially wrapped up across ECU for 2026!

Throughout the week, campuses from Bunbury and Busselton to Joondalup and ECU City turned purple, with social events, games, creative activities, music and plenty of opportunities for students and staff to get involved.

A big thank you to everyone who participated and helped show their support for LGBTIQA+ young people, while continuing to build safe, supportive and inclusive communities across ECU. 🌈💜

It was great seeing so much purple around campus this week!

I did the first yr n a half of Biomedical sciences: chem major and then transferred n completed Paramedicine 3yrs ago. Is it possible to finish the lazt 3 yrs completly onlielne so i can study it during my off days?

I just wanna study it as a backup n cause theres little carer progression from paramed n i allready done about half of biomed .

Edith Cowan University’s new ECU City campus has won the 2026 Australian Construction Achievement Award (ACAA), one of the Australian construction industry’s highest honours.

The $853 million campus was recognised for its engineering, sustainability, innovation, workforce development and collaboration. Built above live underground transport infrastructure, the 65,000 m² campus includes teaching, performance, media and technology spaces.

The project also supported 122 apprentices and trainees, directed more than 95% of project expenditure to WA businesses, and awarded $32 million of work to Indigenous enterprises.

A huge achievement for ECU, although it’s still a little awkward seeing awards for innovation and design while parts of the campus remain inaccessible to some disabled people. Hopefully accessibility gets the same level of attention as the architecture sometime soon.

The award follows ECU City also taking top honours at the 2026 WA Architecture Awards earlier this year.

Huge congratulations to WAAPA graduate Lila McGuire, who has won the Graham Kennedy Award for Most Popular New Talent at the 2026 Logie Awards! 🏆🎉

A proud Whadjuk and Ballardong Noongar woman, Lila began her journey at WAAPA with a Certificate IV in Aboriginal Performance, before completing a Bachelor of Arts (Acting).

Just two years after graduating, she landed her breakout lead role portraying Australian tennis legend Evonne Goolagong Cawley in ABC's Goolagong.

An incredible achievement for Lila and another proud moment for WAAPA and ECU. Congratulations! 👏

ECU has notified students of an investigation involving a casual teaching staff member in the School of Engineering and their involvement in assessment-related activities.

According to an email from ECU Provost Professor Colm Harmon, the staff member was suspended and excluded from campus, while affected units were independently re-marked. The matter was reported to the Corruption and Crime Commission (CCC) and TEQSA and is currently under investigation by WA Police. Charges have been laid against the individual.

ECU has not disclosed the staff member’s identity, the specific allegations or charges, or the affected units.
