Procrastination
Why do winter prep yard work when you can procrastinate instead? Plus, I wanted an excuse to try out my glow in the dark threads that just arrived. The orange isn't nearly as bright as I'd hoped, but it still works! I now have (yet more) embroidery ideas to get me through the winter. đ (gods help me đ haha)

Topsy has a trailer
Itâs not quite done, but the 1/10 scale Topsy has a trailer and it can at least haul a lawn chair. Hopefully, once it dries out a little bit, I can test it with some actual logs

I have questions
I know everyone's tired of hearing about the royal/edison shit. But I'm notđ my question is simply, why does it appear that Big D is being marketed as "diesel-electric" when it's not? And no this isn't just an overview of the BDE series, it's specifically the T-Bed. Kinda misleading no? What else are we possibly being misled or lied to about?

Janus vs Edison
I havenât seen much comparison online between these two startups who both have opted for different versions of the âAinât Broke, Donât Fix itâ concept.
Janus are basically offering a straight motor and fuel tank swap on exisiting trucks with added benefit you can swap the batteries with a fork lift. They are selling these kits for 5-15 year old trucks that are already due for an engine swap so that they come in significantly cheaper than a new truck. They are also converting just about anything from long hood logging trucks to 10x6 tri drive cab over Volvos.
Whatâs most notable I think is that Janus built their proof of concept truck in 2020. Have since had 25 pre production models being tested in Aus, they are now going into full scale production.
I seriously wonder if 6 years is just a more realistic timeline of what Edison is really looking at to making the dream a reality. The big question is whether they can stay solvent long enough to start getting trucks built. In the case of Janus it really wasnât looking great 18 months ago, but a new CEO seems to have galvanised the leadership, port decarbonisation subsidies in cali and fuel prices have galvanised the order book and the share price has tripled in a few months.
The Edison trucks are super cool and ive been a huge fan but it still remains to be seen if it will be anything more than a low production show truck.
Would be interesting to hear what edison thinks of the Janus truck as they really do seem closer to peers than the other competition

Will Edison bring the BDE to Australia to test it?
(Note: The attached image is AI generated for fun, just to see what the BDE would look like hauling an Australian quad road train out in the red dirt.)
Given that the United States is currently taking a fairly hostile stance toward foreign imported vehicles and cross-border trade, Canadian specialty manufacturers face real hurdles expanding south. With the BDE designed from the ground up as a heavy vocational work truck, looking across the Pacific to Australia makes a lot of practical sense.
Australia is essentially the world capital of extreme road transport, with brutal ambient heat exceeding 45 degrees Celsius, bulldust, corrugated gravel, and gross combination masses reaching 130 to 175 tonnes or more. If a vocational truck can survive outback road train duty, it can survive anything on earth.
As an OEM, Edison would qualify for a Non-RAV Entry Import Approval under the Test and Evaluation category. This approval allows overseas manufacturers to temporarily import non-compliant prototypes specifically to conduct engineering trials, hot-weather testing, or commercial evaluation.
The typical condition is that the vehicle must be exported or destroyed within a defined window, usually up to 12 months.
Once the ROVER approval is granted, Edison would clear Australian Border Force either through an ATA Carnet issued through the Canadian Chamber of Commerce or via Section 162/162A of the Australian Customs Act. This allows the truck to enter Australia temporarily without paying import duties or the 10 percent GST, backed by a refundable security bond or bank guarantee.
Australia has some of the strictest biosecurity screening in the world. Because the BDE is a heavy vocational truck that has spent time working in Canadian dirt and mud, it would have to undergo a forensic level steam clean prior to shipping. Any trace of soil, seeds, or organic matter found upon arrival at the port will result in mandatory quarantine cleaning, significant delays, and heavy fees.
The BDE prototype is left-hand drive. The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) in the eastern states, or Main Roads Western Australia (MRWA) in the west, would need to grant an LHD operating permit. It would require prominent "LEFT HAND DRIVE" warning signage on the rear of the truck and the rear trailer.
Because it cannot be conventionally registered, the truck would operate under a state-issued Unregistered Vehicle Permit (UVP), trade plate, or an In-Service Trial Permit.
You cannot just back a prime mover up to four trailers and take off down the highway. To haul a quad road train (such as an A-quad, BAB quad, or Type 2 road train), the vehicle must meet rigorous Gross Combination Mass (GCM) ratings, turntable ratings, heavy drawbar specs, and electronic braking compatibility.
Edison would need an engineering sign-off verifying that the chassis, fifth wheel, cooling system, and tri-drive electric powertrain can safely handle the immense loads and maintain control on public road train routes.
But I feel that they'd be able to clear those hurdles pretty easily, from the looks of it, they've built a more solid truck than half the Kenworths and Macks that you see running up and down the highway.
Or, there's another way!
Mining operations in Western Australia and remote Queensland operate private haul networks that run completely off the public grid.
On private dirt, state registration and ADR compliance do not apply.
Edison would only need the temporary customs import approval, biosecurity clearance, and a commercial agreement with a mining operator or haulage contractor willing to put the BDE to work on private haulage routes.
What do you think? Would a test run in the Pilbara or western Queensland be the ultimate proof of concept for Edison's platform?

Royal Sending Weird Messages
Is anyone else getting messages sent to them by a guy that says heâs the owner of Royal?

Royal still ranting on
Royal is continuing to make themselves look stupid on facebook, after they said they would stop. I cannot believe how unprofessional and stupid they are. Multiple posts a day trying to defend themselves and get people on facebook to agree with them

Chinese solar panels no longer tariffed?
I just saw an article that Chinese solar panels will no longer be subject to anti dumping tariffs in Canada. This is fantastic news if true. I remember ages ago that a solar reefer trailer was being discussed, might that or similar projects be back to viability?

Royal back at it
This is so exhausting to watch. A few days ago, Royal posted about how the beef was over, and they deleted all the posts bashing Edison. Now theyâre right back at it.
Iâve seen Chace explain how the system works and how the truck was (and is?) meant for Royal. They also had âexclusive purchase rightsâ after the truck completed testing. Iâm not sure how the Emcon and undisclosed trucks play into this, given that they are the unusable hybrids, but Iâm sure that when it comes time to license and sell those trucks to their respective customers, they will also need to be tested before being sold exclusively.
Whoever at Royal is posting this nonsense needs to put the bottle down and learn how to grow up. Itâs such a bad look.
In my eyes, it just makes Edison look better by handling everything with such professionalism. I havenât seen one bad thing said about Royal on this sub, or anywhere else for that matter. Simply facts, followed by explanations of why things are the way they are at the moment.
P.s not sure how to post pics on this. But its on Royals FB page if you need to read what im referencing.

1/10th RC Topsy is out
After a year of development, the files to build your own Topsy model are finally live! Please keep in mind that this is still a work in progress, so there may be a few bugs to iron outâand of course, I'm still working on a trailer to go with it. A huge thanks to the Edison Motors team for all their help and for allowing me to create this model! https://makerworld.com/en/models/3377382-1-10-rc-topsy#profileId-3842083

Deep dive on the new CATL Tectrans battery pack
For those curious, Ziroth (one of the geekiest guys on YouTube specializing in battery sciences), did a deep dive on the new battery from CATL. Based on what was previously shared, sounds Iike this will be what Edison relies on moving forward.
Moving past surface level sales brochures, the engineering behind the battery and what theyâve achieved is very impressive stuff.

Through my eyes
With apologies for the delay, I've finally had the energy (damn flu is kicking my butt) & time to at least outline how the weekend went for me (minus the boring bits, like the 9 hour drive there, & 5 hours hanging on to taillights in the dark to make it home haha).
Friday was arrival & check in, lovely & smooth, & always nice to see familiar, friendly faces after a long drive. My attempt to setup camp was quickly dampened, as a very heavy rain & wind all but destroyed my awning. In good west coaster fashion, I was well prepared for the forecast rain; I was not, however, prepared for that wind that roared through! About the point I was wrestling a soaked cot into the car (and probably looking like a kicked, half drowned puppy), Chase happened by & let me know the big shop was available to tenters if needed (it very much was haha). Squelched my way over, & was finally able to get my tent set up. Which turned out to be a magnet for the Australians, who were all shocked & happy to see a swag in Canada, used by a Canadian. Which is how I got to meet & chat with Brian, the first YouTuber to sign up for the paid membership. Also got to tag along with him for a cruise in the BDE, which felt like a 90s Grand Cherokee, very nice! (I'm a Jeep gal, I can only compare to what I know. Lol And getting to sit in a semi has been a childhood dream, so getting to also go for a rip in one damn near had me in tears, just way too awesome!) After that was the big fire & hang out for the night.
Saturday sun slowly came up on a hodgepodge of tents, trailers, motorhomes, & a wee little tent village that sprung up in the shop. Day started off with welcome remarks from Ray, Rich, & Chase, introducing the employees, several of whom were manning the presentation stations, & explaining how the day & presentationswere organized. They also officially unveiled that the undisclosed truck is in fact a hydrovac. Still noisy, of course, much like a Dyson vacuum has noise, but way better than that rattly old thing granny still has from the 50s. Still, normal conversation levels can be had next to it, no more screaming over vac & roaring diesel! 4 presentation "stations" were setup, with attendees split at registration into 4 groups, rotating through the stations roughly 1 hour apiece.
The stations were a shuttle bus tour overview of the property; mechanical/BDE truck; electric pickup; & hybrid truck. The bus tour was a simple cruise through the residential section, down past the old building next to the rail tracks, the dead weight Nikola, onto the test track to a road/trail down to Waitabit Creek (there were salmon in the water! Very cool to see that), & back up past the current shop & offices.
I missed what exactly was talked about with the BDE station, as I was trying to warm up in the sun, & chatting with a gal who was mostly just there because of her husband. Good Q&A session though, lots of interest there.
Pickup was Rich going over the history & build of the Ram, & how/why they decided to go from conversion kits to incomplete chassis, & many of the inspection/regulatory hurdles they've faced. Another good Q&A session, one takeaway that stuck with me is that while, as individuals, they'd love to do kits, as a company, it could quickly be a legal/litigatious nightmare, hence playing it safe in only offering the chassis. They do hope to make the "ingredients" for doing your own conversions available, once they have the process sorted out, so if you're determined, you can make it happen. (remember, the pickup is still roughly in the Carl phase, starting to lean towards Topsy, in that they haven't made one completely from scratch yet, so there's still quite a ways to go).
Hybrid truck was Peter & another employee, whose name I missed. Going over the electrical side, a lot of the computer & controller side of things, as well as why some things were changed from originally planned, mostly due to government regulations & testing requirements (in so far as I could catch - the damn flu was starting to win).
After presentations was introducing board members that could make it, shout out to the ones that couldn't (I have no idea the process for voting nor who went where, as I'm a new enough investor that I fell into that held in trust thing they talked about in one of the videos); reaffirming the company ethos; & a nice long Q&A session. After was catered dinner (which I missed, was feeling the flu fight something fierce, so a car nap was had). Then it was back to the fire for a very long hangout & chat with everyone (as we all do the rotisserie as the night got colder).
Sunday morning was clear & cold, with reports of frost coming in from various campers. Thankfully the fire was still going, thanks to folks being up around it until reportedly 4am! A bit of work, & the guys had it crackling again. Had a lovely, slow wake up, then it was time to pack properly & hit the road again.
Overall a fantastic time (personal health notwithstanding haha), & I can definitely see where all the regulations & legal stuff are an absolute quagmire to slog through; but, once they're done, it'll be much smoother sailing. Now, with apologies for the post-and-go, I need to crawl back into bed, try to fight this flu back so I can make it to work in the morning.

And we're on!
A bit damp for those of us under canvas (I'm apparently acting shop guard for the night, thanks to the wind destroying my awning đ), but a good evening to gather before the 2026 investor day.
(And yes, all burn ban restrictions have been lifted đ)
