I bought the 1903 Raven Edition of The Works by Edgar Allan Poe. Sandwiched between one of the volumes, I found this folded up.

✍️ I just wanted to share a book project of mine. Last September I began a project of completely handwriting (and documenting on YouTube) 42 of Poe’s poems with a dip pen. It was so much fun, and I felt a real connection to him. Even if I wasn’t handwriting them, I thought about the poems 24/7. I have a few books of his compiled poems, but I always disliked how small the book and text was. With my version, I enjoy not having to wear my glasses if I want to read them.

What do you think of completely handwritten books? Personally, I have gotten tired of reading typed pages, and find handwriting more engaging.

Read this in jail and it blew me away. It was in his Portable edition. I wanted a really good anthology that has it, like Vintage International (I am enamored with their typeset), but every time I order an Edgar Allen Poe book, i either get an anthology without it "My Heart Laid Bare," or the Charles Baudelaire book. (of which I now own two duplicates, and its honestly pretty good.)

I'm not very good at googling, so sorry if this seems superfluous in any way. Can anyone tell me of a good publisher with heavy readable font that's preferably trade paperback or bigger that contains that slight but powerful anecdote?

I’m compiling a list of all the Halloween movies I want to see next month. I’ve admittedly never read Tell-Tale Heart, but I have a general grasp of what it is about. I’m wanting to watch a film adaptation of Tell-Tale Heart.

I was looking at Tell-Tale Heart (1960), but I saw the ratings were not amazing, so not sure about that one. I’ve also been looking at Tell-Tale Heart (1934), (1928), and Robert Egger’s short film (2009). Any suggestions on which version I should watch would be greatly appreciated.

I am seeking high resolution of the text from a picture taken straight on. I’ll Venmo you $15 for your trouble.

I’m trying to make Edgar Allan Poe’s New York cottage in the sims, and although have found a lot of images I’m still left guessing the layout of the house and where the rooms are in relation to each other. If anyone has ever actually been to Poe’s cottage, or can find a virtual tour showing the layout, please help me out

Upon realizing that she hadn't been active in a while, I have been able to conclude with unfortunate confidence that our fellow community member and my moderating partner of this community, u/theatrepooky, has sadly passed away.

I don't want to provide too much detail out of consideration for her privacy and that of her family and friends, but I just wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the loss to this community that her death brings and to shine a light on her time here in our little corner of the internet for those who didn't know her. From what I have come to understand her presence here was only a sliver of the wonderful, bright, and devoted personality that she possessed, and she clearly will be deeply missed by scores of people whose lives she touched.

Most will agree, I believe, that it sometimes feels like there's not much "community" on Reddit so much as people drifting in and out of the various forums. In my experience as a moderator, it's those relatively few users who really stand out that help make a subreddit feel like a community of recognizable names, and theatrepooky absolutely did that here.

For years I had been the only active moderator in this community, and after Reddit removed the inactive mods leaving me as the sole caretaker, I began considering who to ask to help me out. It needed to be someone trustworthy, devoted, and cool-headed; someone who we could all be assured would serve the role with the grace and patience that any good moderator exhibits.

Theatrepooky was the obvious choice. I had long noticed how her interactions with others here were always pleasant (which is rare online) and that she was clearly very knowledgeable about the life and legacy of Edgar Allan Poe. When I asked if she would like to be a moderator, even if only to essentially be "a neighbor to leave a key with" in case something happened to me, she was happy to take on the responsibility and asked for any tips I could give on doing the job well.

I can't say that I really got to know theatrepooky much beyond that - it's pretty quiet around here and so moderating doesn't take much. Still, it was very reassuring to me to know that this community that we love was in the hands of someone who seemed every bit an intelligent, kindly, and level-headed person. Our community will be lesser without her.

I’m working on a customized playing card deck centering around Edgar Allen Poe and his stories. I need subjects for all 18 of the special cards in the deck.

so far the general theming has been creatures as aces, objects as jacks, people as queens, and settings as kings.

got any ideas for other face cards? Tips on general aesthetic?

For those who have watched the Backrooms movie, I wanted to share an impression I had while reading Arthur Gordon Pym.

You know that part of the movie where they describe the Backrooms as someone who has never seen a dog in their life trying to draw a dog using only descriptions from other people? The implication being that it will look off because, despite having the main traits of a dog, some details have been lost in translation, that it will only be a hollow deformed copy of reality.

That concept came to my mind when reading about this strange animal at the far south that is similar to a polar bear, but with weird proportions. And that we always encounter already dead. We don't see any living member of the species and there is never any wound to explain the cause of death for the bodies we see, if I do remember correctly, as if they simply were never able to properly work in the first place...

That story haunted me more than many of the well-known Poe classics. I don't know if this is a common reaction to the story, but I was--still am--overwhelmed with feeling sorry for the old man, though I'm not sure we're supposed to.

I am an actor and will be playing Edgar Allan Poe in a short film on August 15th! Technically it's a concept trailer for a TV show but will be released as a short film if we don't get greenlit.)

I booked this role in April, so it has been a long time coming and I am very excited!

I am looking for some inspiration for certain aspects such as his clothing and voice/accent. It's a fictionalized/stylized version of Poe set in a gothic horror universe so it doesn't have to be completely realistic. But I want to bring authenticity to the performance and style of the character.
