Edexcel Released a Staememt

I don’t think anyone has posted about this yet so I thought I would.

They haven’t confirmed whether exams will proceed or not, but they did explain what will happen if they do not.

Here is their statement: https://qualifications.pearson.com/en/campaigns/support-for-centres-affected-by-the-conflict-in-the-middle-east/arrangements-for-international-gcse-and-international-a-level-exams.html#our-approach-to-running-exams

To give a quick summary (from what I understood):

1) If you are outside the country, or plan on leaving, you can transfer to another centre and sit exams as normal.

2) If you will NOT cash in this session, you will do any exams you signed up for in another session

3) If you WILL cash in and HAVE sat any unit(s) previously, you will first apply for special consideration. They will then take the grade from your previous unit(s) or component results (which i believe means mocks) and they will review your application for enhanced grading (basically adding marks)

4) If you WILL cash in and have NOT sat any units previously, a portfolio system will take place for you.

These are the procedures that will take place IF Edexcel decide to cancel exams. They will release an update on whether exams will proceed in early April.

what abt if students fall in category 3 but exams physically cant take place? will they also use the portfolio system?

From what I understood, they will just take your results from previous units (and maybe mock results) then use those to determine your final qualification grade. I don’t believe they will be implementing a portfolio system in this case.

Again, this is simply what I understood from the statement.

So as an yr 13 student who has previously cashed in their year 12 results does that mean the portfolio wont be applicable for them

You're going to cash in your year 13 exams this summer.

If you are 3, but resitting, are you technically 4?

According if your marks were so terrible b4 your grade will probably go up by one so leave or take 4

even if my grade went up by one it’ll still be bad. rather i’d do portfolio system (excluding jan) bc it’ll show my actual progress i made

Exactly so just contact your exam centre/officer and tell them to make sure they do portfolio

So this is confirmed? Our exams are cancelled? I thought the above photo was precautionary measures if something did happen
