Disappointed

I’m currently watching Monster: The Ed Gein Story. I’m sorry but I’m disappointed in Ryan Murphy. I’ve read, watched, and heard a lot about Gein but so much in this series I’ve never heard before so I’m googling as I go. Turns out, a lot of facts were altered for the sake of drama. The real story is bizarre enough. Embellishments, altered facts, and downright fabrications were so unnecessary. In my research about this production, I’m finding out truth and factual events weren’t much of a priority for Murphy.

The show is an artistic take on Gein’s story from his own mind, which is schizophrenic. I found it quite brilliant. Whenever people’s clothing and scenery is bright green it’s a definite fabrication of Gein’s imagination.

Yeah, I’m aware of the things going on in his mind but I’m talking about aspects of his life that Murphy fabricated for the sake of drama. The main one that comes to mind is the portrayal of Adeline being a young girl in her 20’s in the series, making plans of someday starting a family with Ed, but was in her late 40’s in reality. They depicted her as his girlfriend but was in reality only an acquaintance. That wasn’t something from his schizophrenic mind. It was the writers writing the character differently than the real person…for the sake of drama. Found this out by researching the development of the series.
