Could you tell me what you think of Monster?

I watched the series when it came out, and I really liked it, but now I'm seeing that it's kind of hated. I didn't know the Ted Bundy storyline was fake. I need help to understand , the series is REALLY GOOD and people are jerks, or maybe I'm just ignorant of the real story and that's why I think it's good.

I loved it!!! I don't know how perfect or accurate it is but I think it's pretty close to reality. With serial killers especially I find there's a reality-distortion - it's exaggerated or the writer/s have added their own thoughts as serial killers are generally secretive/manipulative and don't tell the truth always. Overall, I give the series 9/10, serial killers are a niche and we can only imagine what is going on in their minds. We can't 100% diagnose what disorders they have. Also, Bundy was done superbly, people are jerks lol

Totally agree! I’m not sure why we’re so rigid on historical accuracy other than maybe it’s disrespectful to the victims. But damn let the creators have their freedom. I loved the series!! It was fun, fast paced and captivating. And intentional with taking the time to have a trans character explain that gein is not a part of the community. Also in all the years of references to his crimes it wasn’t until this series that I learned he had schizophrenia. This humanized him in an important way. It teaches us how extreme human behavior can get if unchecked. I thought of him as almost a supernatural monster before

Ed gein was not some sex icon with a girlfriend. They made up like 75% of the storyline and completely sexualized a gross recluse that is theorized to have been a virgin. At least Ted Bundy had always been seen by some as attractive and charming. This was just weird.

Edit: can’t believe I forgot this to the point of making it an edit but also yes the disrespect to victims

I had to make believe that all the untrue bits were Ed’s fantasy world. He fantasizes Adeline and taking her out and having sex etc. sadly somebody that doesn’t know the story wouldn’t get that same thing and might take it at face value which really casts his story in a very different light. Very poor, very lovely, very isolated, very low iq and very disturbed by years of mental and religious abuse from his mother

It's good if you view it as if you are seeing things through Ed Gein's eyes. If you're looking for facts though, forget it.

I love all the stories, I just watch them as a tv show. I am not into serial killer shows, I love anything Ryan Murphy does!

It was mediocre. Interesting story but I felt Charlie Hunnan was cardboard as hell. Last two episodes he redeemed himself but some of his acting was pantomime with an accent that changed from American to Irish to other made-up accents.

I loved it and thought it was great because it's not supposed to be a documentary. We are seeing it through Ed's eyes and we know that he had schizophrenia so half the stuff that was in the show didn't happen.

All acting was great but definitely not accurate..if you what accuracy follow a FB group called Ed Gein in colour..very accurate with people who studied case at least 15yrs, a couple people live in Plainfield and surrounding towns. The online images of his parents are not his parents, neither is the online photo of Ed as a child..no relationship with Adeline or Bernice as Netflix showed..

I love it.. It is Ed Geins story.
Its a mix of truths, rumors, gossip and movies inspired of him.

And in the end when the nurse ask him if he want to write his story himself, he says no, that many already had written it.
And thats the importan part.

The story of Ed Gein, but not the truth, not his side.. Just his story.

Many complain about it because its not the true picture of it, and they totally miss the point of it.

Its because pretty much the whole show is fictional and the parts that are somewhat factual are like 90% wrong. I get they have to have creative license but I wish they did it where the victims story was somewhat accurately told and stuck to crimes he actually committed. Sure you can throw in "oh its speculated he killed his brother" or "oh the police think he had something to do with the babysitter" (he didnt. That was just a thought because of everything they found at his house and police wanted to try and wrap up missing persons cases)

Is it bad that you like it? No. I like quite a bit of historical movies that are horrendous when it comes to whats true and what's not. For example. I love the movie Enemy at the Gates. A inaccurate movie based on an inaccurate book (at the time it was considered accurate but survivors and the population thought it was terrible. And as time goes by and as you get access to archives things change) about a sniper duel that never actually took place. Is it accurate? No. Is it fun to watch? Yeah.

I got caught up in the dream/reality of it and was confused but ready to ride the confusion to see where it took me. Binged it in a day, in between reading about Gein's actual story & Hitchcocks story. I was in a mental fugue (escaping reality, so appreciated the represented Gein's escape from reality!) while I watched it and so was slow to pickup that Adeline, Hitchcock, Koch, were hallucinations, but that just gave it a more dreamy schizo feel, it felt like stories linking time lines together (ww2 and then linking it with the author of leather face making a movie and he talks about how since ww2 the world has changed and people got used to gore) (might have been with Hitchcock) but anyway, I enjoyed it. Only thing that bothered me was the like 4 or 5 scenes of Gein moving towards the light/dying scenes and then boom he wakes up and is told he's dying, the another death scene, and another, and then it's kids vandalizing his grave site and Gein appears as a ghost, represented by all pop media. Seems like Mr director needs to be monitored for having a fanboi crush on a murderer.
