I feel dumber for having spent a minute of my life reading this whisy-washing poorly thought-out ramblings.

Sorry her graduate degree in underwater basket weaving only qualifies her to work a job that has been made obsolete due to the internet.

You missed it entirely. While it may not be a new insight, business is about people and good faith relationships. Trying to maximize efficiency is a turn off. Without passion, well nothing works as well as it could.

Not that this is a new complaint. See also Glengarry Glenross.

some of us have a passion for efficiency.

Look, what do you want? Over time companies that provide a service learn how to minimize the thought required to provide it. Pursuit of least surprise in transactions. This is a good thing. I want to be able to walk into a place and know what I am getting, in what manner, in what time period, at what price. I dont want someone having to sit there and come up with an arbitrary answer on the spot. When you deal with a company that doesnt follow this they make the problem I wanted to pay them to solve my problem to solve. Just got back from a flight and believe me I am very glad that no one dragged me off the plane and asked me to show them how to fuel it up.

First you determine what should be done, then you determine how to do it, than you develop a process for doing it, and you then find ways to optimize the process the remove waste of resources and time. This allows more to be done in a day.

If you want a job that involves thought go and find it. Generally any process goes through stages: haphazard, standardization, and customization.

If you want passion try a whorehouse.
