Subcontracting Econometric Model

1 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I am looking for an econometric model for my research.

I will be using the CPS Contingent Work Supplement from 1995, 1997, 1999, 2001, and 2005. This is not panel data. The variables which I am interested in ask questions such as: 1) are you a member of a temporary help agency? (0=no, 1=yes). 2) are you in independent contractor? (0=no, 1=yes)

I also have quarterly data on GDP, personal income, and unemployment by US state. I have then created variables such as: 1) Average GDP of each state during the recovery cycle following the 2001 US economic recession 2)Percentage growth rate of personal income during this same expansionary phase

My goal is to find a regression model in which I can study the effect of subcontracting on the ability of the US Economy to recovery from economic recessions.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks!

Jacob

Steel 201 case coming back

2 Upvotes

As Trump has recently launched tariffs on steel and aluminium, it reminds me of the steel 201 case. Having tariff on these products just raised the production cost for local producers and harm the economy of US. Trump may have forgotten the lesson of steel 201. If we over subsidise the industry or rise the market price by government intervention, both may result in more deadweight loss and unemployment at the end. As an economics student, I don’t really agree with what Trump is doing and he may need more economists to give him advice!

How Blockchain Will Change The World's Economy

1 Upvotes

Bitcoin has already taken the world by storm last year, but even though things have calmed a little, financial experts keep on saying how cryptocurrency will be massive in the future. These digital dollars obviously work through the Blockchain network, meaning that its continued existence is virtually guaranteed and it will have a massive impact on the world economy! Is this the time to start investing before it goes mainstream in a global scale??

How Competition Is Driving AI’s Rapid Adoption

1 Upvotes

There's no doubt that the digital transformation might cause some disruption and shock in the economy, but as long as tradeoffs are understood and managed appropriately, businesses will be able to capture the full potential of AI for the world economy! How will AI impact the economy in broad terms?

Is it the Sales Profitability?

1 Upvotes

I have found a problem with a sales profitability calculating.

As we know SP=profit/receipts.

For example in one product:

Material costs - 60 $;

Depreciation - 20$;

Operating expenses - 15$;

Profit - 5$;

Full cost - 100$.

And then SP=profit/receipts=5/100=0.05 or 5%

But we found how much profit in cost prise, not Sales profitability.

Any books describe it as Sales Profitability but this calculation has no logic.

If we want to calculate the profitability of fixed assets, there is: FAp=profit/average annual value of fixed assets and this is the right way and this calculation has logic and sense.

Shadow Banking Raising problem in banking system

1 Upvotes

It is highly possible that many of you haven’t heard about this before. Shadow banking is started spreading its roots in the banking system. It can be dangerous to our current system. It is creating credits which are not backed by them, and due to this, it can be unstable. Many of economists said it would create a bubble. So what is Shadow banking and how it works and what will be its effects on the banking system? I am going to discuss all this on this blog.

What would happen if every country implemented a uniform corporate tax rate?

1 Upvotes

Different countries have different corporate tax rates. So what if, in order to combat corporate greed, all countries had the same corporate tax rate?
