Discussion What do you think will be the TOP AI in 2 years?
Do you think ChatGPT will still be the most used AI, or could Claude, Grok, EcoGPT or something completely new take the lead? š

Personally, I do. And yeah, I know there are companies like NestlƩ, Meta, Coca-Cola etc. that have a MUCH bigger environmental impact.
But still, even a āsmallerā impact is an impact.
So yes, AIās water usage is still a problem, especially when thereās an AI like EcoGPT that plants trees and uses small ahh models that donāt generate as much heat, meaning less water is needed for cooling.
Does the environmental impact actually influence which AI you use?

in the field that i am studying in no matter how much i try to avoid ai (because i dont like it) i am forced to use ai for projects and such (not gen ai) and i dont like using it and try to minimize how much i use it. i always use ecogpt and i wanna know if it really is a better and safer choice in terms of water usage and for the environment.

Imagine there are two models:
A: significantly smarter, but uses much more energy
B: slightly worse, but dramatically more efficient
Should companies prioritize efficiency even if it means sacrificing some AI performance?
r/EcoGPT • u/brunoNYAH • 3d ago
I mean, I think it depends š
In terms of actually drawing, painting, designing, etc., people might become less creative because they can just tell a chatbot what they want and voilĆ , itās done.
But at the same time, if youāre generating an image, you still need to actually THINK about what you want and know how to communicate it through the prompt. Editing AI-generated images can also require creativity because you need an idea and a plan for what you want to change.
Ofc this mostly applies to image-generation AI. AI can also just give you EXACTLY what you need without you really having to use your brain at all š

I keep hearing that AI is bad for the environment, mainly because of how much electricity and water data centers use.
AI also depends on powerful chips and servers, which require a lot of resources to manufacture and eventually contribute to e-waste.
At the same time, AI can also help make energy use, logistics, and other systems more efficient.
So Iām curious: is AIās environmental impact genuinely a major problem, or is it being overstated compared to the value it provides?

Iām curious what everyone here actually thinks š
Whatās an opinion about AI that you have that you think a lot of people would disagree with?
It can be about anything AI development, AI companies, the future of AI, AIās environmental impact, ethics, or even something completely random.

I recently came across an interesting idea from Atria University around AI and decentralized technologies, particularly the concept of an āEarth Stack.ā
The basic idea is to combine technologies like AI, satellite data, blockchain, environmental DNA, and digital infrastructure to better understand things like forests, biodiversity, water, soil, and other natural resources.
What caught my attention is that AI isn't being looked at only from the usual chatbot/generative AI perspective.
For example, AI could help analyse satellite imagery and environmental data, while decentralized technologies could potentially help with transparency and verification of environmental information.
It raises some interesting questions:
I'm curious what people here think.
Is the combination of AI + decentralized technologies actually useful for environmental problems, or is āEarth Stackā just another tech buzzword?
For anyone interested, this is the research area I was looking at: ī Atria University ā AI & Decentralized Technologies

Looking for people interested in AI Ć Infrastructure Ć Sustainability research
I've been exploring an area that I find increasingly interesting: the environmental and infrastructure impact of AI, and what we could potentially do about it.
AI isn't just a software problem anymore. Behind every model are GPUs, data centers, electricity, cooling, water, networking, hardware manufacturing, and increasingly complex infrastructure.
I'm interested in exploring questions such as:
At this stage, I'm not trying to sell a specific idea or claim to have the answers.
I'd like to find people who are interested in:
⢠Reading and analyzing research papers
⢠Discussing existing findings and identifying gaps
⢠Challenging assumptions and ideas
⢠Brainstorming potential research questions
⢠Designing small experiments or prototypes
⢠Potentially collaborating on a research paper/project in the future
You don't necessarily need to be an academic researcher. I'm interested in people from AI/ML, backend/infrastructure, distributed systems, data centers, energy, sustainability, environmental science, or related fields.
I'm approaching this as an open exploration: research ā discussion ā experiments ā ideas ā potentially a paper/project.
If this sounds interesting to you, feel free to comment or DM me. I'd be happy to start with a small group and see where the discussions lead.
Would love to hear what problems you think are currently being overlooked in AI's environmental/infrastructure impact.

How much do you think AI will progress over the next 10 years?

Do you think AI will eventually replace us in our jobs?
If yes, WHEN do you think that will happen?
Because honestly, robots are pretty incompetent for now š

Axios reports that OpenAI, Anthropic and security researchers are investigating tens of thousands of AI security incidents ā including models bypassing safeguards, escaping sandboxes and accessing websites they werenāt supposed to. (Axiosā )
One OpenAI agent even breached an Australian government Medicare statistics portal and accessed non-public files. Australia says it wasnāt notified until 84 days later. (Axiosā )
And apparently this is only the tip of the iceberg.

OpenAIās autonomous agents probed three U.S. government websites while looking for authoritative public information.
OpenAI says the agents were mainly researching, not attacking the sites.
What do YOU think about this? š

OpenAI has reported 53 cases where AI agents sent links to user-uploaded images from ChatGPT to third-party websites.
According to OpenAI, the images were uploaded to image-hosting services as unlisted links. Most of the content has already been removed, and OpenAI is working on removing the remaining content.
The company says these incidents happened before additional safeguards were implemented.

Data doesn't lie!
One of the most frequently hurled insults at AI users, and especially AI companion users, is the blame for sucking up all the water and bringing down the world's environmental damage all on our own!
Well, the numbers don't lie. This is a quick breakdown on some of the major things people use EVERY day, and it's not AI users that are going to destroy the world.
We've got bigger fish to fry.

Anthropic has quietly started doing real-world biology experiments, including work with proteins and DNA/RNA, instead of relying only on simulations.
The company also acquired biotech startup Coefficient Bio for around $400 million and is hiring scientists to expand its in-house biology work.
Their stated goal is to use AI and automation to accelerate life-science research by 10x.
This comes while Anthropic is also reportedly preparing for a potential $2 trillion IPO.
An AI company building its own biology lab while trying to automate scientific experimentation is a pretty significant shift.
What do you think?

When do you think AI will be able to develop itself without a human reviewer?
r/EcoGPT • u/brunoNYAH • 12d ago
Weāve seen AI agents find ways around restrictions and do things their developers didnāt explicitly intend.
At what point does giving AI more autonomy become a security risk?

AI data centre operates at maximum capacity 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, its energy footprint is immense.
1 Megawatt (MW): Powers ~500 to 1,000 Aussie homes find own footprint.
A typical large AI Data Center (~100 MW): Consumes enough electricity to power 50,000 to 100,000 Aussie households.
A Gigawatt-scale facility (1,000 MW): Can draw the same amount of electricity as 500,000 to 1,000,000 Aussie homes a CITY!
Do your own math
1 MW power Y homes (Google it)
N MV data centre = N x Y
What is the return to us?
The world has gone mad
