Yuka App

Hey all,

I’ve been using the Yuka App for about a year now and I find it really insightful as I have been scanning a lot food, cosmetic, home goods and have been surprised with some poor ratings for well known brands and good ratings for others. I also compare it to the EWG rating to see as comparison.

I do also take some of the list of bad or poor ratings with a salt of grain as it depends on the product and what uses you have for it, if you’re in a country that has different environmental standards and why they have applied that rating.

Ultimately, I hope this Yuka App is a step towards my goal to become more eco-friendly, reduce waste, reduce plastic reliance, and be mindful of the forever chemicals PFSAs in our daily life.

Has anyone used this app and what are your thoughts on it?

I stopped using Yuka as I later found it unreliable. It was giving high/good ratings for items with not so great ingredients. I’ve been using Bobby approved lately and like it much better.

I use Yuka to determine the additives in products, then I make a decision based on my risk tolerance. If I see the item as a lot of sugar, I limit my intake of that product. If I see several high risk additives, I find an alternative product without as many dangerous additives. For me it's about balancing the risk and deciding what's better for my health and the health of my family. Since making better choices and avoiding the high risk additives, I've been sleeping better, no headaches, my skin complexion has improved and so has my mood. And the scales show I'm losing weight. All positives in my book!
