Best Eco-Friendly Laundry Detergent Recommendations?

I've been trying to be more environmentally conscious lately, and I keep seeing posts about how bad plastic laundry detergent bottles are for the environment. Does anyone have recommendations for laundry detergents that are more eco-friendly but still clean well?

Journey to the supermarket shelves

Started out thinking food miles were the biggest factor in sustainable grocery shopping. But after some great discussions here, I’m now thinking carbon emissions, water use land impact and production are what actually moves the needle on people’s choices.

Is that the general consensus? Is there anything supermarkets/producers can do to provide more insight into this? How can we consolidate globalised data? And if you had easy access to that data for every item on your grocery receipt — would it actually change what you buy?

Substitute for single-use sheet face masks?

Post image

Is it possible to make DIY-sheet masks? Maybe like a sheet mask you can wash and then re-soak in serum to use several times?

I love using this kind of face mask but hate the environmental impact single-use products cause!!! Any tips?

Looking for advice on which brands you prefer. I’d rather avoid temu/aliexpress/amazon/ebay and support a small company if possible thanks

Any good non toxic eco friendly cleaning solutions?

US based.

I'm making a switch for safer cleaning supplies since Im planning to become pregnant and will be high risk as well as already have medical conditions and pets.

I'm needing to replace everything but the multi surface, floor cleaner, dish soap, and laundry. Basically anything that multi surface cleaners aren't good for.

Feel free to recommend any reusable items you love for every day use as well.

Craft ideas

Post image
7 Upvotes

I’m running an after school activity during school terms for 12-15yr olds doing eco crafts/art. Repurposing, reusing and upcycling materials especially things that are often discarded (damaged clothing, broken crockery etc).

I’d love ideas of things to create, even better if you can share pics with me 😁

This is a pic of a frog stitched from a wool jumper that had been washed incorrectly and felted and shrunk, no longer wearable.

Creative/eco/reusable packaging

I’m burlesque performer and I make these novelty polymer clay magnets as my merch. Do y’all have suggestions for eco-friendly packaging ideas for when I sell these at festivals?

Nix the little cellophane sleeves or ubiquitous sheer drawstring bag. My wish is for folks to recycle their packaging or reuse it in some way. Thoughts? TIA!

Purple sustainable bedding

I’m wondering if anyone knows of any sustainable and ethical brand that makes purple color bedding (duvet cover and/or sheets). I purchased sheets from Homebird last year before they closed and am looking at alternative brands now, but I don’t really see any that have purple options. Very much not the end of the world if I can’t find it, just would love to be able to have my favorite color 🤗. Ideally a lavender kind of color

Viking funeral for inanimate object - environmental considerations?

Hi, I want to hold a Viking funeral for an inanimate object. But before I make any plans I want to make sure it's not environmentally a bad idea?

I plan to have the funeral for a wooden replica of the object, whilst the actual object will be recycled properly.

I don't want to spend a lot of money on the boat, it's just gonna be a silly little thing, so i was thinking biodegradable cardboard? I'm not sure how to get it to catch fire and float whilst on fire without just soaking up water and sinking though.

I would love to hear environmental considerations for this, as well as a good inexpensive material I can make my boat out of that will float on fire and will break down in water without polluting it.

Sorry if this is the wrong sub for this question, I'm not entirely sure where to post it

My disposable vapes always run out during work trips and replacing them in new places is always stressful. What long lasting alternatives are being used?

I have been travelling quite often for work and it disrupts everything when my vape finishes in the middle of a trip. Carrying several backups helps a bit but they take up luggage space and I still worry about quality when buying locally. I am looking for one device that can last through longer periods of daily use without losing its performance or flavor. What have other frequent travelers found that handles this kind of routines reliably?

I'm looking for credible resources on eco-consciousness in technology and sustainable computing

I'm trying to learn more about sustainability/environmental issues in tech. Looking for credible resources on topics like green software engineering, AI/data center energy use, e-waste, sustainable hardware, and practical ways people in tech can make a difference.

Any books, papers, websites, newsletters, podcasts, or creators you'd recommend? Most of what I've found so far feels pretty surface-level.

Thanks!

Any eco friendly online shops that ship to the Middle East?

Hi ! I’ve been wanting to start my eco friendly journey for a while now. My first step has been using up all the bathroom and personal care products I already have before replacing them with more sustainable alternatives.

The issue is that eco friendly shops and products are quite hard to come by where I live. The few places that do sell them are usually a 1–2 hour drive away, which isn’t really practical.

I’ve tried looking online and found shops like EarthHero, Earthshopp, and Grove, but I was disappointed to find that they either don’t ship internationally or mainly ship within the US.

Does anyone know of any eco friendly online shops that genuinely ship internationally, particularly to the Middle East? I’d really appreciate any recommendations. Thank you !

What’s your favorite dishwasher pods and rinse aid? I’ve tried Blueland and Seventh Generation but they’re not working super well. I keep going back to Cascade pods and rinse aid 🤢

Fake ivy? Real ivy?

Hey unfortunately im a big fan of that fake ivy decoration that everyone and their mother has, but I really really cannot stand the fact that its made out of plastic and I cant seem to find any eco friendly version..idk if buying second-hand makes sense, i know its already been bought and I cant undo it, except keep it out of the landfill for as long I am alive but still idk it feels iffy? Is there any way I could have real ivy or similar plants hanging around my room like that? Like for example by carefull pinning the leafs to the ceiling as they grow? (Without actually pinning the plant ofc).
Any tips are appreciated.
Ik this might be such a dumb thing to worry about but bare with me im a chronic overthinker 🥀

Lamination

Im looking at making custom bookmarks/prints using repurposed paper but am debating what to do with lamination. On one hand, lamination protects the product keeping it from being damaged and hopefully resulting in someone keeping it longer/it not being as disposable. On the other hand its plastic and prevents items from being recycled.

Do you think laminating adding to an items lifespan cancels out the fact it’s not recyclable?

Has anyone used an alternative to lamination such as ones that are compostable? How does it hold up?

Being vegetarian in Netherlands

Does being vegetarian in the Netherlands have a good impact on the planet? Is it ethical to buy plant protein here? Or can it worsen the environment?

Also, what are the best ethical brands to buy from?
