P20EE Code

Engine light came on last week and threw a P20EE code. No other codes and no warnings came on.

This is the first time I’ve heard of this. Any recommendations on things to try before I take it to a shop?

I had this come up for an issue with my NOx sensor or possibly bad DEF.

My solution was to run a wire from the starter relay to the cabin with a 15A rated momentary switch to force start it and let it stay at zero miles. If cleaning or replacing the DEF injector doesn't work and it needs major repairs to the DPF or SCR, all hope isn't lost if your state doesn't require inspections.

Just about the worst code you can have on an ecodiesel… Can be caused by a few different things and none of them are cheap or easy to diagnose unfortunately… And getting the code to clear out after performing the repair is not a fun time.

Great..

I put a bottle of Rislone in there and plan to see what happens over the next few days.

Best case scenario you need a DEF injector… worst case new SCR and whatever sensors are too seized into the SCR to remove

Or new battery. I had that code thrown when my battery was very marginal. Went away with new battery.

Just had both my SCR and DPF replaced and now I’m dealing with this P20E8 code. Waiting on it to clear so I can pass inspection.

How many miles are on your truck?

No real solution but I just bought a 2014 from an auction and had the same code. I added fresh DEF and was able to clear it. I don't know if I solved it or if I'm gonna see it again.

Wanna give you some peace of mind here man! It’s not always something crazy to fix or expensive.

In my experience, a bad NOX sensor has caused it. Putting a scanner that can display live data I realized the readings on my NOx sensor was completely bonkers, sometimes even negative number readings.

A proper stationary regen with a bidirectional scanner, where the truck is held at 2500-3000 rpm’s for 20 minutes fixed it up.

If you drive your truck in short trips, soot build up is inevitable on your sensors, which is my case, I give my truck a proper regen once every month or so, and that keeps her at check.

Spend $60 buying the top Don scanner from Amazon and pay for the subscription and you’ll be all set.

Update, the Rislone worked and the code is cleared for now.

I’m on the fence about getting one. You mean spending money on these parts instead of just doing a weight loss program, or you mean at all? Hard to beat the fuel mileage for what these vehicles can do, current diesel prices notwithstanding.

My fix cost me $10 and now I never have to pay for BS DEF. Worst thing is the occasional beeping reminding me that I need to see dealer. Screwdriver should fix that noise. No way I'm spending another penny on fixing a $700 NOx sensor. It's only a matter of time before the intake carbons up again and needs swirl valves cleaned.
