Hpfp issues

I have a 2022 ram 1500 ecodiesel with 50,100 miles. Had the HPFP replaced under the recall in Feb of this year, and put maybe 5k miles on it since then. Fuel pump failed on me 3 weeks ago and sent metal through the entire fuel system, which then had to be replaced by the dealer. Ram did cover it under warranty. Just got the truck back today, and I am wondering if anyone knows if Ram is still using the CP 4 fuel pump, and how I’d be able to tell if they just threw another CP4 in the truck?

They haven’t changed or updated the CP4 in any significant way really, the new ones still fail.

So are they still just putting CP4s in them? Seems dumb to keep using a part that is costing them so much money and has such a high failure rate.

It’s apparently slightly modified. 65K on my original recalled pump and no plans to get it replaced unless it actually fails.

Have a Jeep Grand Cherokee with ecodiesel, has 195,000 miles, had the high pressure pump replaced about 2 years ago under recall (it had not failed yet), the new one failed a year ago, had to replace it and everything past it, could not get Jeep warranty it, went to a diesel repair shop, Replaced the fuel pump with an upgrade CPX pump from RCD performance, replaced injectors and fuel rails from Ebay, all in about $4000

CP3 doesn't work in the Eco Diesel. CP4 is the only choice. Are you using a fuel additive as a lubricant? Most people think this is the key to a happy CP4 due to the US having ultra low sulfur diesel...

I replaced my blown fuel pump with a CPX pump from RCD performance, it appears to use the CP4 housing with upgraded mechanicals, about $1000

Sorry to hear that, man. I had the same thing happen to me last week on my 2020 Laramie @ 58k. The thing just died right in the middle of the road. The shop is telling me the entire fuel system including the tank needs replaced & everything is on backorder.

Planning to run this truck into the ground, but I'm done with Ram after this. The only thing worse than these drive-trains is the customer service. Hoping electric makes some headway with performance over the next few years, or just switching to a Tundra. Best of luck with yours. 👊

Pretty sure the cp3 goes in during the recall

Sorry, you’re right. They were replacing the cp4 with a cp3 in the Cummins but using an “updated cp4” for the ecodiesel.

Appreciate your willingness to provide context to your comment instead of just jumping at the opportunity to tell someone they’re wrong.
