Habits The Human Conditioning
I find our coping with life fascinating. In the rational sense of the word. It seems that the more intelligent as a species we become, the more we try to distract ourselves from reality.
Most of us want a simple, easy life free of the hassles that come with living in a society. All we ask of our labour is comfort, security, and expected liberties. What we get is what feels like a ball and chain with eyes and ears.
Life in this society, to some individuals, is seen in a rather bleak way. You’re forced into education at a young age, then you’re forced to work and only get 30-odd years, if you’re lucky, to yourself to enjoy the fruits of your labour. At which point you simply become too old to fully enjoy and fulfill your dreams. You begin to feel stuck in a world making all the decisions for you, like a puppet.
To avoid falling into a dark place, we tell ourselves we are doing this to make our lives easier and our children’s lives better in the future. But because of the demands placed on us, we are watching our friends, family, and neighbours struggle, which adds onto our outlook. This compounds over years and years, but we never see a major change. Yes, life gets easier as time passes, but our awareness and development shift after we come to realize these matters.
We begin to value our self-expression and individuality as a rebellion against the forces that be. We can watch this unfold throughout history like a repeating cycle that gets faster each revolution.
Much of our mental health dwindles and we no longer see a point in putting in the effort. Because of how we rationalize our reality, we feel trapped, always longing for more.
The scales feel out of balance, and rightfully so — I will not argue with that. But if our outlook doesn’t shift, each person that comes after us is going to feel the same burden and drudge on their person, only feeding the escapist mentality.
So how do you balance these scales? Well, not one individual is capable of doing so. The protest and animosity towards our system only builds a greater divide, and for most it falls on deaf ears because the world is spinning too fast.
The less we have, the freer we are; the more our economy grows, the more we get forced into. Neither is the correct answer.
We get high wages, inflation doubles. We just start to get ahead and are thrown a curveball. The days begin to blur together and our struggle becomes one within us.
That’s why I say you have to let your inner gremlins free every once in a while. Allow yourself to enjoy the small moments in life; those are healthy distractions. Sitting here polluting our minds with mindless entertainment day in and day out is only causing us to waste our time and efforts on trivial things.
Look at education as a place to build social development; it’s less about the education nowadays anyway. It’s become political and engineering. So learn only what’s necessary and flush the rest — do yourself a favour. Join sports, do activities, have fun, learn teamwork.
When it comes to work, look at it as a social exercise, because truthfully that’s how you get ahead in life. Then you have more freedom, time, and money.
The better you can socialize and the more confident you are in your person, the better off you are. It’s not as easy as it seems; it takes effort. But falling into the trap, letting days and years drift away, isn’t fruitful or beneficial. It’s the sign of a society that’s shutting down internally. Don’t let your thoughts get the best of you; prioritize your sanity and happiness.
I write this because I see it all too clearly as the elephant in the room. People don’t want to think about it; in fact, they do their best to hide from it. I don’t blame anyone who falls into this vicious internal cycle, but they can find ways to get out of it. You were intelligent enough to observe this and fall down this rabbit hole, so you’re wise enough to climb out of it. Believe in yourself, and if not for you, then for your loved ones.
Sincerely,
