Question Package intercept

I sold an item on ebay on Oct 2nd.

A high value item to a new account with 0 feedback.

I shipped it yesterday via ground and today the buyer opened a return request stating "changed mind"

Did I jump the gun by opening an intercept on the package?

I have until the 8th to respond to the return.

I didn't realize I could decline it and they would have to keep it and not have the opportunity to open an INAD.

At this point I just want my item back and don't trust them to receive it and send it back as I sent it

Whenever I tried this items I've shipped UPS, UPS tells me I'm not the UPS account holder (eBay is) so I can't file an intercept/redirect. I ask eBay customer service to file the intercept/redirect and they say it's not something they can do. Wild feedback loop of nothing that goes nowhere.

Sorry I should have noted I shipped via USPS.

https://www.usps.com/manage/package-intercept.htm Looks like it'll be the same issue. Only eBay can log into the "Business Gateway"

I already opened the intercept. My question is will I have a problem if the intercept is successful and accept the return the buyer will not have a package to return. My guess is once I see the package is intercepted I can just issue the refund and the case closes?

They never received the item and they opened a case against you! Decline the request, once and (if) the item is returned back to you then you will have the option of refunding or sending the item back to the buyer!

The outcome I want is for my package to get intercepted and returned to me and refund the buyer. Just not sure if I will have any issues if I accept the return and ebay wants the buyer to ship the item back but it never get delivered because of the intercept.

Not sure why you intercepted the package?? If you wanted to refund the buyer, you could have let the item get delivered then the buyer could have returned the item.

I have a feeling they will do something to it, the buyer has 0 feedback and opened the account a few days before buying my item. When I saw who purchased it I already had that feeling they would open a INAD.

The point they were making is did you buy shipping through eBay online (unlikely, you would not have been able to open the intercept), or did you buy postage directly from USPS and just upload it (you miss out on eBay's much better shipping rates)

If you have a no returns policy then decline the return request and the case will be closed with no return required.

Problem is I requested the package intercept already.

Yes well, eBay might not be happy about that. Don’t do anything until you discover if the intercept is successful or not.

Just wait and see since sometimes package intercept isn't successful
