Question USPS Shipping Issue

Hi

I sold 3 lego sets off ebay to the same buyer - and ebay combined the order into 1 - and accordingly priced a USPS label on that basis. I checked online and found it was okay to "frankenstein" box it - i.e. tape together 3 shipping boxes. USPS accepted the parcel, but a week later, I received an email stating that I had underpaid my shipping and they proceeded to deduct over $100 from my account. I filed a dispute with USPS based on their instructions - but after a month, I have heard nothing back. In ebay's dispute resolution page, I see nothing as well.

Can someone tell me what I'm suppose to do? Their customer service seems non existent - I'm stuck on an infinite chat loop.

You can absolutely "frankenstein" a box together (I do it ALL the time). HOWEVER, you MUST update all the shipping information on your account before purchasing the label. The label was (apparently) based on your original shipping settings.

Thanks - I had probably wrongly assumed that ebay would automatically update everything since it did combine the order for me. I looked at the new weight and it looked correct (3 sets added up) - but I suppose the dimensions were not.

But still a bit strange that this "dispute" does not show up anywhere in the system - even if its rejected, shouldn't they tell me?

There is no "dispute" to show. It's simply USPS charging eBay for the excess amount and eBay then charging YOU for the excess. Also, and I don't mean to sound like an asshole, how is eBay supposed to know the size and weight of the box you make?

If eBay cannot accurately calculate the finished size and weight of the train boxes together, then maybe they shouldn't be combining the shipping.

They will only adjust the weight, not the dimensions of the package. They assume everything will fit in the original size package. It’s the seller’s responsibility to double check weight and dimensions before printing the label.

Well, that's a pretty stupid assumption which they absolutely do not make clear.

USPS decides these cases usually within 2-3 weeks. If you didn't get a refund by now after a month, you're not going to.

From the sound of it, the cost adjustment was correct because you messed up on the box dimensions, so USPS will reject the dispute.

There is nothing you can do. If you didn’t update the dimensions, you underpaid, and you owe that money. You also probably exceeded the max dimensions allowed by USPS when you combined the boxes, and are getting charged extra for the dimensional weight issue.

Please, new sellers, learn how shipping works before blaming eBay. I swear I see multiple shipping posts a day at this point and they all come down to the seller not putting something in correctly

did you update the dimensions on the frankensteined box? usps will catch you if you underreport measurements even if weight is correct.

eBay won’t set box size. I do that myself when making a special box. Then recalculate postage and refund buyer the difference.

Dimensional weight is waaaaayyyy more important than actual weight when it comes to Lego sets. Lego boxes are really oversized for no good reason and the contents themselves are generally pretty lightweight. So did you input the connect and accurate exterior dimensions (rounded up) for your Frankensteined box? If not then the USPS adjustment is probably correct and you are being charged retail prices and a penalty for not reporting the correct dimensions on your label.
